Is it just me or is Evangelion a pretty average show but became over-rated due to the complexity of both tv and movie endings? And also no one really understands the plot and endings without having to read pages and pages of wiki. Why does this get so much praise?

It's depression on the big screen. You wouldn't get it, normie.
Yea I get the depression thing and its good for people who suffers from it to watch it, but all im saying is its not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be
the plot and lore behind it is great but the series and movies are average at best
It still has its charm. It's the only show / movie that gets it.
>Isolation
>Human condition
>Loneliness
Did Akira's ending make a little more sense to anyone else after watching End of Evangelion?
People get too tied up in the themes/messages and just forget that it's a very nice art project, better than most animated series of similar length on a technical level
i would've done the same probably worse
Stay filtered
nah it has some great scenes and pay off, i think its high points are a little spaced out though.
i would've only smelled her feet and sucked on her toes
i actually like it but It just isnt as good as everyone says. And I hate that you have to read so much about it to understand everything
I'm trying to write a story with similar themes to Evangelion and it's fucking crazy from a creative standpoint how logical everything in Eva is. Constantly I'll run into "this theme is best explored via this conflict which best takes place at this point in the character arc oh shit that's ripping off Eva".
why was asuka such a cocktease
yes Eva could have been a masterpiece if there were more episodes or movies to cover everything
wouldn't you be too?
Do you think Kaji?
I don't know why we need this thread every other day. It is highly regarded because it's a show that took familiar anime tropes and settings to lure people in, and then proceeded to gradually erode those tropes to take an unexpectedly nuanced dive into the psychology of its characters, climaxing in a grand expression on the inherent loneliness of being an individual while urging people to transcend beyond that. Yes both endings are very important to this and designed to evoke pretty visceral emotional reactions in the viewer but they really are just the product of ideas the show had spent its whole run trying to explore.
The kind of people who would gravitate to a show like this tend to be the types that it emotionally resonates with the strongest, hence its status online, especially in fringe communities.
Some people don't relate to it as much others and that's fine but there's still plenty of reasons for it having the legacy that it does that aren't contingent upon that.
Just finished rewatching the series for the first time in 12+ years and enjoyed it, how is Rebuild?
>Evangelion a pretty average show
Out of your fucking mind. Spend a few seasons on Yas Forums and come back.
Idk man, in my opinion, the show was fucking boring man. Like stop fucking crying and kill yourself shinji. You save the world if you did.
decent for what they are, cant really say much more than that without getting into conspiracy theories or pretending like I know what's going on inside anno's head
Evangelion is good
But it has been surpassed by this kino
retard faggot nigger normalfag hope you choke on your dads semen
Yea I hate shinji
its garbo, only waifufagging trannies rate it highly
Great argument bro
>And also no one really understands the plot and endings without having to read pages and pages of wiki.
Imagine actually being so fucking stupid that you can't understand a show that lays out the entire plot and themes in episode 3.
Code geass is also better
Stop pretending you understood it after your first viewing faggot
test
I also have no capacity to look at historical and cultural context and can only judge things against modern examples.
Citizen Kane sucks and 2001 is boring.
Based "am I still banned?" poster
You're so insecure you can't fathom someone understood something you didn't lol
if i wasn't alive it doesn't count
Sure sure whatever you say
You're right, I had to watch it a second time when I was 11 years old to actually grasp the meaning because the first time I was just paying attention to the action and didn't realize there was more to it because I was a fucking child.
>Based "am I still banned?" poster
The j*nnies banned me for shitposting during the April Fools event. I'm not kidding
>look at me I'm so smart guys
>people fear getting close to each other because the closer we get the more we conflict with each other and cause ourselves pain
>so the Jews are initiating a return to Adam Kadmon that erases individuality to end loneliness
>"DUDE WTF IS EVEN GOING ON THIS IS SO COMPLICATED WHAAAAAAT????? NOBODY CAN EVER UNDERSTAND THIS!"
Because normies, and youtubers wanna seem like "hardcore" anime fans
I feel exactly the same, I was wondering what the big deal was the entire time until I got to the endings. Maybe for an anime its amazing? I've only watched two or three others so I dont know. And I wish people wouldn't use supplementary material to explain the show, like adam being in gendo's hand or the name Dark Moon or whatever. None of that was mentioned in the versions I watched
>Is it just me or is Evangelion a pretty average show but became over-rated due to the complexity of both tv and movie endings?
It's a monster-of-the-week mecha series that quickly turned into "muh depression" cope pretending to be a deep character study due to Anno's clinical depression affecting the writing quality.
>lore
Also known as the creator making it up as he went along and using symbolism without meaning because it looked cool. His words.
NGE is top level pseud shit. Doesnt mean it's not worth watching. The animation is great, the soundtrack has its moments and the characters typically have SOME depth to them.
>"this theme is best explored via this conflict which best takes place at this point in the character arc oh shit that's ripping off Eva".
And Evangelion ripped off Space Runaway Ideon. What's your point?
>It is highly regarded because it's a show that took familiar anime tropes and settings to lure people in, and then proceeded to gradually erode those tropes to take an unexpectedly nuanced dive into the psychology of its characters, climaxing in a grand expression on the inherent loneliness of being an individual while urging people to transcend beyond that.
.....so it's basically "Fuck Otaku: The Series"?
>His words.
No, moron. He said he chose that symbolism because he thinks its cool. All of the Kabbalah symbolism is consistent. He does understand the topic.
Why are people so insecure about their intellect that they have to pretend theyre smarter than they actually are on a Chinese bat-eating forum?
>he chose it because it looks cool
That's what I said you retarded faggot. He didn't base everything in the show off of what made the most sense or the deepest symbolism, he went primarily for an aesthetic.
You can apply critical theory to a red square on a canvas and dream up a thousand feverish interpretations but all that is, is sophisticated projection.
NGE is worth watching but it isn't deep, even if it appealed to you when you watched it for the first time because you were so unfuckable.
>That's what I said you retarded faggot.
No, you said he just chose symbolism with no meaning based on what looked cool. And he didn't. He chose Kabbalah because he likes it, but all the symbolism has meaning.
>No, moron. He said he chose that symbolism because he thinks its cool. All of the Kabbalah symbolism is consistent. He does understand the topic.
Cope.
Judeo-Christianity & Kabbalah are both alien concepts in Japan, which is why references and """symbolisms""" to them are done purely for aesthetic purposes ONLY because Japanese audiences find them strange to look at. There was nothing deep about the Angels being called "Angels," the Angels exploding into crosses upon death, or the Tree of the Sephirot appearing prior to the Third Impact. All of it was done....
To.
Look.
KEEEEWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLL.
Nothing more, nothing less. All of the imagery is consistent because Gainax and Anno wanted the strangeness of it to be consistent, not because of any of it being """deep""" or """complex""".
Wrong. Come back when you're not an occultlet anymore.
>All of the imagery is consistent because Gainax and Anno wanted the strangeness of it to be consistent,
This.
It was all surface-level visuals and that's it.
I think it's overhated to be honest, amazingly animated show gets shit on by Yas Forums pseuds who talk about leafy and idubbz
>occultlet
Are you seriously this assblasted, or are all Eva fans really this autistic?
I'm just telling you that you're a retard for spouting Yas Forums memes without understanding the subject at all. The return to Adam Kadmon, the occult work of "Love" which is returning all existence to one entity, they're consistent with the show's themes.
*tink tink tink*
AHEM
Hideaki Anno, June 1996 issue of NEWTYPE
>"I think the people who are very much involved with the internet," Mr. Anno said, "have very narrow views toward life and the world. They're always in their rooms and don't go out very often to communicate in person. Because of their information on the internet, they feel they know everything without searching the real truths." They easily and anonymously say things that they would never say in person. "Their messages are like graffiti in a public toilet." They attack others while they are staying in a safe place. "They don't have anything certain to hold on... that's probably why they watch anime shows. I would like to add and say to those fans, hey, go out and visit towns. I am 35 now and I am realizing the importance of human contact little by little..."
NGE is genius is many many ways.
Why were rei and asuka almost always naked?
shinji was naked just as often as them
I rate Evangelion as highly as BvS
They have a lot in common too
Highlight of this overrated series
