Why did the pretentious pseuds from FNW disliked Clouzot yet they salivated over Hawks and Hitchcock? What a bunch of fucking posers.

Blessed footage.
From the new documentary on him I believe

Why did they dislike a mediocre director and salivate over a good director and a good director? I'll get back to you on that one.

They were the original burgerboos

>HITCHCOCK GOOD BECAUSE US
>CLOUZOT BAD BECAUSE FRANCE

why is Costa Gavras such an underrated director?

To the user who posted that cytu be link the other day on Gorki's life, thanks. That was great.

projecting

Yes who could forget that the French New Wave rejected and spurned all French directors for being French

Wages and Fear and Diabolique are both better than any film Hitchcock made.

Soikovsky

>Wages and Fear

add Le Corbeau to that list
La Verite could be up there too, if it didnt fuck up the ending (of course Wages has a silly ending too, but I can just pretend the movie ends in the penultimate scene)

I will never forgive my film school for charging me $25,000 to beat me over the head with French New Wave garbage and Jean Luc Gofuckyourself yet completely ignoring the Czech New Wave, Australian New Wave, Japanese Golden age, Third Cinema, New Latin Cinema, and post Eisenstein Soviet cinema.
Fuck film school, if you want an education get Criterion Channel + a library card.

Not really
Or just use torrents for films and books about films

Film school is the biggest meme ever.
Recently someone on Yas Forums posted a film review by some YouTube chick (her channel name is bestmess) and it was a totally inane, banal "review". The joke is that she graduated Film studies from one of the best universities in the US.

Of
Inferno would be there too if he actually finished it.
Based. Also Czechoslovak NW>>>>>FNW
Yes, really.

>Also Czechoslovak NW>>>>>FNW
Not really.

I bet she doesn't even know who František Vláčil is lmaooo

>pretentious
ugh. even in /film/ threads we cannot avoid this imbecilic adjective.

Film school is not film studies

Oh OK, so they're both cringe

So anyone keep that DAYS link?

Attached: DAYS.jpg (699x1000, 140.3K)

FNW is the most significant film movement ever

why is it that it's always someone who never went to film school or uni in general that criticizes them in the most vapid and insipid fashion each and every time?

Was Soldier Svejk based or cringe?

Attached: svejk.jpg (1360x990, 295.15K)

film schools provide hands-on experience with every aspect of filmmaking, not simply theory, criterion, and studies. prove to us you went to 'film school' because we're all having doubts.

What do you think of this movie?
Personally probably one of the best I've seen and I'm not even that fond of Kore-eda

who and what film are you responding to?

pic related

I've never met anyone IRL who went to film school/studies, so I'm judging purely by these two youtubers I know - bestmess, who graduated film studies and is a Letterboxd-tier airhead, and James Rolfe, who finished film school and yet his film reviews are kindergarten-level, let alone his films

It's the best Kore-eda film and one of the best Japanese films of the '90s

Yes, really.

Extremely based.

Same, plz someone
I don't know why this board is so obsessed with CNW. Yes, it has a couple of great films and like 30 good ones, but the FNW and JNW totally outclass it

Lol her channel is just a bunch of crappy vlogs, this girl actually went to film school? She’s like the goddamn NPC that bumps into walls after spouting off her only two lines of dialogue.

so you are judging these institutions by anecdotal reviews of YouTube clips and a single director? want me to make a list of filmmakers who went to film school and have directed amazing features? two that come to mind are David Lynch and Terrence Malick.

At least bestmess/bestdressed is pretty cute

>Malick
>amazing
Muh Thomas Kinkade CGI wallpapers.
You could've named Akerman yet you went for Malick

It also has the most amount of dated films from any single movement imo, seriously YouTube vlogs are the legacy of Breathless.

is it steaming anywhere?

because 70% of the people who are "into film" on this board have extremely dim intelligence and easily develop parasocial relationships with dead directors. if a director talks about philosophy or politics as many in the FNW did he is "pretentious" if a director lets them turn off their brain he is "based"

Yeah I’m an old head so I’m not too savvy with torrenting but it’s def a good option.

>Same, plz someone
the post above you
>Yes, it has a couple of great films and like 30 good ones, but the FNW and JNW totally outclass it
It's not like FNW has that many great films.

why do you guys like that borefest?

Malick impresses me more as a filmmaker than Akerman. I've only seen a couple of her films, though. Either way, who cares, that's not the point.

Forgot the pic
I think covid 19 was created by China and used to kill protestors of Hong Kong

I want to pinch her oily chubby cheeks

>dated
found the pleb

Any of you guys seen this? I'm currently uploading all three parts to a mega if anyone is interested.

>FNW is dated
>one of the most popular forms of video right now owes itself to FNW
Ok...

Is its like that

and yet the other big Yas Forums thread talks about how zoomers don't torrent, only old folks

>drive.google.com/file/d/1uZHpOLoRR39O283FFhejxXtKpIkc54ZR/view
thanks!
thanks!

>I bet she doesn't even know who František Vláčil
I have the boxset that includes Adelheid, Marketa Lazarova is kino.

I was put off by CNW at first and it took me several more years to get back into it, but once you learn more about post War Eastern European history CNW films resonate so much damn harder than the best of the FNW which comes off as child’s play compared to what these Soviet bloc filmmakers are grappling with in terms of political realities and existential dread. FNW is a very technical and decadent movement (with exceptions of course) but CNW is like a goddamn primal scream.
I think Ucho, The Cremator, and Report on the Party and Guests are the best places to start.

Okay I’ll admit you got me there, I just don’t like FNW very much and absolutely hate Godard.

I sure love getting my politics from Maoists and Commies.

>I was put off by CNW at first
what initially put you off? lack of context, primarily historical? I believe that's one of the major issues with modern film criticism.

You are welcome
I agree.

If you expect to "get your politics" from anything than you should just watch cable news.

You'll like Third Cinema then.
Here's what I've seen from CNW

Excellent:
>The Cremator
>Marketa Lazarová
>Pictures of the Old World
Good:
>Daisies
>Funeral Ceremony
>Carriage to Vienna
>The Shop on Main Street
>Happy End
>The Crucial Years
>Dragon's Return
>...And the Fifth Horseman Is Fear
>The Fabulous Baron Munchausen
>The Sun in a Net
>The High Wall
>Birds, Orphans and Fools
>The Nun's Night
>Witchhammer
>Intimate Lighting
>The Ear
>Late August at the Hotel Ozone
>Loves of a Blonde
Average:
>Closely Watched Trains
>Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
>The Golden Fern
>The Hand
>Nobody Will Laugh

it's just nice to observe while lying in a bed under a blanket and drinking tea or whatever, tho only if you can get over the gay parts (i'm a fag so I didn't mind)

I want to watch the Leopard. Should I do the original Italian or should I watch the Criterion English version?

Definitely not from some bookworm like Godard who read about Marxism and Maoism and now has the need to make films about how well read he is.

I have seen it with the Italian dub. It's pretty great.

haven't seen it. I dig Ming-Liang's early work and would like to see what he's up to these days. also, boring is juvenile criticism.

if that's your general assessment of Godard and his work, then maybe you should, ahem, read some more.
