Battlestar Galactica (2003), every time I watch it there's some new detail that I missed
I'm binging them for the first time. I never knew they were all up on Youtube.
Never got the hype with this can someone explain to me why I'm supposed to find it even enjoyable let alone some cultural gem
Well first you have to be a heterosexual male who has had friends.
That's it that's all the steps you need to understand it.
If you're representative of the target demographic then I think I get why it's not for me
Spenny is a neurotic sped who's easy to fuck with and it's enjoyable to watch Kenny fuck with Spenny.
Have rewatched this an unhealthy amount of times and don’t regret a single rewatch
I binge this show once a year it's such a classic
Spenny ate ass before it was cool.
TEAM SPENNY
Oh shit it is! Going to marathon that
If you grew up in Canada and watched it as a teenager with your friends, you’d get it. I used to love the show but I can definitely see how the humour would be off putting to an average adult. It’s just jackass, but more mean spirited and crass
>tfw I grew up in Canada and watched it as a teenager with my friend
have to see it considering the context when it aired, reality tv was everything early 2000s, it would be like if fear factor had the same guests on every week, eventually wouldn't they go why am I bobbing for apples in horse semen again just for the chance to win 50k?
other theory is there's also something about the duality of jewish nature, the spenny character is visible in many shows as the whiny jew, but then kenny plays an antisemitic caricature
Let's settle this once and for all, how much of Spenny is an act and how much is aspergers?
It's not an act at all, because you can see from his other projects that he can't actually act and he's not capable of being intentionally funny.
Part of me thinks he's an unrecognized Andy Kauffman type but not as good.
If he were they he'd be able to achieve some level of success outside of KvS, but everything he's done since that appeals to no one.
Yeah I'm beginning to think Cool Guy Spenny was completely genuine
if you've never seen it before, watch the movie they made before the show, pitch

it also varies by episode, spenny was married and had a kid up to season 3 or 4 when he got divorced, it wasn't like they actually lived in the house together, kenny brought his gf at the time (now wife) on the show, she has one line in an episode and then was in a video he made when gavin mcinnes was on
I don't know. Confessions of a Porn Addict is essential cuckcore.
Yeah I feel like he's sort of like Larry David in that he's aware of how he comes off but that's just really how he is, and he's being unfiltered for attention. That's not to say he's as funny as Larry David, just the same idea.
holy shit didnt even realize he had two kids and was married. I knew that they didnt live together but i didnt know how much was hidden
it's almost like it was a tv show...
I had no idea either. Imagine if your dad was the dude who got in a big plastic ball with human shit in it on tv.
i mean i knew most of it was fake, i just didnt even think spenny was married with kids. the show and all of his other projects really solidify how much of a fucking loser/failure he is
It's sad that their both milking the shows fanbase to make living. It was a great show but they need to move on
they lived 5 mins from me on sherbourne
Name a better show opening
wonder why kenny never milked spenny's divorce to humiliate him
Look I want to believe that the show is 90% real but man the Who Can Win a Rat Race episode is just so staged it makes me a little sad
I do think some situations in the episodes are far too convenient to be real, but I have a hard time seeing how Spenny could have faked being shitfaced in the beer episode, or high in the weed episode. Those seemed extremely genuine
It's totally not real, but I knew that the moment I saw Kenny stumble upon Spenny in three separate perfectly-timed prank turnarounds in a row. Not to mention in the homeless episodes the cops that arrest spenny are wearing costumes and the toronto police insignia is fake.
That episode makes up for it by having the funniest joke in the whole show though:

See like that is so totally real and genuine, and that's what I love about the show. But later on when Spenny steals Kenny's records and Kenny kidnaps Spenny's mom it just seems so fake it kills it for me
The unscripted episodes like Who Can Fart or the Who Can Not Laugh ones are so good because they're just the two personalities clashing and when they try and "raise the stakes" it just doesn't have the effect
I agree, but some of the greatest pranks on the show are also some of the ones where you really wonder how real they were, like Kenny pretending that his mom had died.
Oh that one had to be real (although Kenny most likely let Spencer's crew in on it) because Spenny's reaction is so real. That's another thing, you can really tell when he's acting or not cause he's so fucking bad
Yeah that's one of the best ways to tell. Lucky that Spenny's so terrible.
I do think most of the show is real and has real reactions, but that Kenny orchestrates a lot of things to happen in very specific ways.
The original run of Trailer Park Boys
The Terror
I was just thinking that the other day. Like the show is 60% real, 10% scripted by both of them, and 30% scripted by only Kenny with Spencer left in the dark
>30% scripted by only Kenny with Spencer left in the dark
Those are frequently the best parts. Kenny is genuinely funny and him playing Spenny like a fiddle and watching him completely sperg out makes the show. That's when the show is at its best. Dunno if the last season or two are more "staged," but they definitely feel more forced.
How do you people not get bored when rewatching shows? You already know what's going to happen.
I came to the realization that a decent portion of the show is scripted, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is incredibly funny and an equally decent amount is obviously real.
I remember reading that in season 6 they had two crews each instead of one and a much bigger budget so that probably had an effect on the 'feel' of the show. Cleaner production always leads to a less real feeling product
i watched it very young before school each morning on the cbc.
right before Peter WomanCrossway
Yeah it definitely felt like more of a product.
With these partnerships where part of the premise is that the two people butt heads all the time, it's only a matter of time before it gets to the point where they really can't stand each other and it's obvious that it's not really banter anymore, just bitterness. Same thing happened with The Biggest Problem in the Universe podcast.
I remember an old interview where Kenny talked about one of the reasons for their CBC cancellation, which was the fact that the humiliations aired during the credits at the very end of the show so old people tuning in to watch the news would see the most offensive part of the show, and they'd complain about it.
the important parts are real
(the humiliations)
it doesnt matter who won what or who beat who, what matters is watching Kenny humiliate and torture Spenny despite rules or a show.
Hey now Peter Mansbridge is a very nice man
I dont have a knowledge of that podcast, but I do remember Kenny saying at one point that he thought the show got better the more they hated each other
>Tfw watched this series as it aired
>tfw it was my fav back then
>days were spent playing Oblivion and Halo 3 while waiting for the new KvS episodes
I want to wake up from this nightmare and be back in 2007 tomorrow.
>he thought the show got better the more they hated each other
It gets better as the hate builds, but at some point the bile becomes too dominating and there's too little sense of fun.
it's good to watch and remember a time when toronto wasn't full of gooks and sjw faggots
love this show also fuck you aaron
Fair enough. I do think season 6 is the least memorable but if they were to come back for one more season I'd be down
There's 100% staged aspects.
Pic related.
or you just read that on the wikipedia page
Oh for sure. Every season is still good even though it degraded somewhat.
You can believe me or not, I watched the interview on youtube back in the day. I think it was with George Stromboulopoulopopolouopsulpousos
Peep Show. It never gets old.
It's probably their most well known interview, tardfag. Also one of their "racier ads" aired during a toddler block by accident according to Spenny in that interview.
