I thought the first Jumanji was a lot more serious, like it didn't know if it wanted to be a drama or a comedy. Its a silly concept, and the reboot embraces the comedy side, which imo makes it a better movie.

You see the board game from the original transform itself into a videogame console in the beginning of the movie. So it's kinda soft reboot in that all the stuff in the first Jumanji film probably happened but I don't think they got mentioned.

The first is a classic, and they somehow managed to make an even better film.

The first reboot movie was enjoyable. The second was just okay, but I liked Hart's impression of Danny Glover.
My biggest problem with these movies is they never do anything interesting.
Hell, in the last one, they even had a character abandon his arc just so he could be the hero again,

I guess I could never really get into the original because I thought it was supposed to be a comedy when I saw it. The reboot is more of a flick no doubt, but I always felt thats what the movie was supposed to be.

I liked it but the first one was better desu. Seeing the stereotype high school kids becoming opposite versions of themselves was the main hook and the reason I liked the first one. Them becoming friends at the end was comfy too.

Watched the first 2 recently and this is basically a perfect sequel.

Not even close. Original Jumanji is one of the darkest and most interesting family films ever made, only flaw is the shitty 90s CGI
It's a sequel. Welcome to the Jungle even references Robin William's character, and The Next Level literally has a character from the first Jumanji in it (it can't remember her name, the actress who plays Lillith in Frasier).
