Is Evangelion kino? I haven't watched it but heard a lot about it. I know it's anime but posts about this on Yas Forums still reach triple digits easily so there are obviously some hardcore fans here

I mean it did air on American tv in the mid-2000s so it technically counts

Just watch it if you're interested, retard
Don't say you "don't have time" because then you shouldn't be watching anything ever

it's great

NGE is a bait anime
everyone is trying to trick you into wasting your time because they are mad they wasted their time watching that shit
i will never watch it for this reason because i can tell from about how they post
notice how they always say it gets better later and then you end up watching the whole thing and its still shit

>Yas Forums still reach triple digits easily so there are obviously some hardcore fans here
hardcore waifufags arguing over the girls, not the plot

Thanks for the """"contribution"""" faggot

It's objectively the greatest work of kino of the last 25 years.

it is a fedoratier weebshit with no greater value or deeper meaning

most Eva threads here are just one schizo reifag who probably got banned from Yas Forums

yes

Yes, it's kino.

But a word to the wise, if you watch this and prefer Asuka to Rei, you literally did not get the show and the point it's trying to get across.

Asuka is pushed as more cliched and anime-y, sure, but she's a massive failure who represents the very escapism the show criticizes.

The girls are hot
The robots are cool
The monsters are really cool
Gendo is badass
The science mumbo jumbo is interesting
The movie has the best animated fight ever
The whole thing is like the director is bleeding his soul into every aspect of it until he literally blows his brains out onto the screen
The girls are hot

It's one of those series that you keep thinking of in the back of your mind. Satisfying and unsatisfying at the same time. Best to watch it alone when you're lonely.

It's very kino. Every character has their purpose. Have some guidance.

I can't refute Terryposting

I'm on episode 3. It's pretty good so far. Definitely worth a watch

If you want a secret kino watch GTO (Great teacher onizuka)

wtf what US channel would actually air real anime kino?

oh no he is here

No, it's absolute pretentious shit that was made by some Jap hack. It only gets praised by self-righteous weebs because of religious imagery, giant robots and anime girls. It's not worth anyone's time.

I could only imagine cartoon network

The series is really good but EoE is the true kino
Transcendental film

Yeah. Cartoon Network aired a couple of heavily edited TV-PG rated episodes in 2003 but it was Adult Swim that ran it (nearly uncut) on their ACTN block a couple years later

It aired in 1994 so it's more than 25 years old

They ran out of budget halfway so it degraded into a 2deep4u slideshow to try to pull off the lack of animation.

>The initial cuts of the first two episodes were screened at the second Gainax festival in July 1995, only three months before they were aired on television.[

This.
It doesn't matter who you like most, it's just a cartoon. It's all about taste and getting mad at each other is really stupid.

The only thing that ticks me off is when people pretend the characters are something they aren't. LIke of course if you're gonna objectively compare them, it's hard to beat Rei because she's self-sacrificing (literally), intelligent and a literal God to boot. But some people don't like girls that are strong or capable, so someone more emotional and anti-heroic like Asuka falls into their taste. Or they like motherly big tits so Misato is top pick.

yeah, to me it will always be one of those "what could have been" shows that got ruined due to production

I loved Shinji through the whole thing. People call him pathetic and shit but don't realize that 99% of people, especially 14 year olds, wouldn't have the stuff to pilot an Eva.

Also he dresses like a little slut.

The direction is unironically great in some areas, in terms of slow dialogue scenes focusing on interesting visuals, the few well animation action scenes, and the approach to dream sequences. Alot of it feels rough, but not lazily put together, even the limited resources they had were used effectively.

There's a reason it did well and it's because it didn't just look like everything else at the time, not just in terms of its art direction but the way scenes were put together. It almost always perfectly represents the emotions the characters are feeling.

you have to use smaller words so the marvelfags can understand

Attached: 5 (1).jpg (1200x1801, 149.09K)

I've always liked Shinji because he's basically just a dude, I never understand the hate for him. If I lived in a post-apocalyptic eternal Summer i'd be fucking miserable too.

Fuck Rei in the vagina to lube up my member

Fuck Mari in the asshole to dirty my member

Fuck Asuka in the mouth to clean my member and shut her up

its was good when it had the monster of the week format but towards the end it was closer to a visual novel than an animated show

The present Funko Pop values for Evangelion are as follows

>Asuka (School Uniform) (SDCC) $41
>Unit 01 6" $28
>Asuka (School Uniform) (Hot Topic) $21
>Asuka $12
>Rei $11
>Shinji $9

There is only one additional Pop known to be in the pipeline at this time
>Unit 01 6" (Metallic/Bloody) (Hot Topic) pic related
which was thought to be releasing around this time though lots of things are irregular due to Covid so that is still TBD

I watched the entire show and End of Evangelion last night. I went to bed feeling fine, I woke up and was fine for about half an hour and then felt an immense sense of dread, like I was going to come undone any second and nobody would be here to save me.
Then I realised I was just hungry because I hadn't eaten for 20 fucking hours.
Take that as you will.

Apparently their original script fell apart at Episode 16, which is about the time it descends into madness.

Personally I didn't have an issue with it, I actually liked how the Angels basically seemed to "hone in" on the weakness of humanity, taking them away from their familiar scenario. They were losing in a test of strength, so they start getting covert and mindfucky instead. Ramiel and Zeruel both jobbed and they were ridiculously powerful, so Nerv obviously couldn't be beaten by raw might anymore.

You're supposed to empathise with her not judge her because she's not a sacred figure like your precious blue angel.

This but unironically

fuck i wish i was this chad still able to see evanjillion for the first time

based
the constant sense of alienation and the feeling that you're being lied to (you're never quite given a real explanation to many things) coupled with the rough love approach to the situations and the gore and brutality and apocalyptic scenario make this such a good show

How does a script just fall apart? Or do you mean there was a point when Anno just couldn't cope with the fact that fantasy is part of the human condition and cascaded into fucked up explanations of the human psyche to avoid feeling satisfied with his work?

I just want to find someone to watch it with who hasn't seen it before so I can live vicariously through their reactions. Preferably a cute gf.

Sounds hot

Yeah, it's totally great. Watch out for the blue-haired one, knocked my socks off first watchthrough. The story though!

Attached: moby rei.jpg (1200x1600, 573.56K)

I was here yesterday but you all told me to fuck off and finish watching it instead of asking questions. I was reaching out but you rejected me.

So Asuka fans are funko-pop buying soiboys?

They ran out of time not money. If you'd actually seen it you'd know it isn't a slideshow.

Its just the little pricks who want to jerk off to asuka and rei. They are mad shinji never fucked any of them and they will eternally be deprived of such a scene.

This. EoE is a fantastic artistic achievement.

>you
Faggot I don't even know what you're talking about.

So what is it, smart boy?

it is a confused mess passed off as 2deep4u

It's not a slideshow but there are scenes which are literally 3 minutes long still shots and way too many cases of characters talking into walls.

>Anno just couldn't cope with the fact that fantasy is part of the human condition and cascaded into fucked up explanations of the human psyche to avoid feeling satisfied with his work?
dont you mean production kept Anno from properly animating a show so he was forced to conjure shit up to justify filling in episodes with voiceovers and still pictures

Unironically this.
The series was a longform way of Anno saying "Fuck off, I'm depressed" to the fans.

An anime episode, what else is it going to be you big dunce?

They had a plan and it basically became unworkable, I can only assume due to budget.
So they basically shifted from an all encompassing story about the world/politics/instrumentality and instead focused back on the characters. People say Anno "got into psychology around this time" but I call bullshit since the show was referencing Freud from the outset.

From what I can tell, End of Evangelion is basically significant portions of that old script revived but sort of "skipped". The original script probably had more about Seele, Marduk and the UN's shenanigans and the history of the Angels than the final product.

I thought it was based and I don't even really like anime, the rebuild movies are kinda shite though

Attached: NGE02_73.jpg (1440x1080, 171.05K)

it's okay at the start, and some episodes is a choir to get through, but later episodes are pretty good, and movie is kino

An anime episode made out of 20 different frames and an audiotrack

This.

Attached: Neon-Genesis-Evangelion-Screenshots-Misato-Shinji-Tokyo.jpg (1169x443, 110.43K)

Yes but you have to admit it becomes very poorly animated towards the end

The still scenes are established pretty early on as a stylistic device. It's not long they just pulled it out of their arse once time got tight. I don't know what you mean by talking to walls.

The script isnt what's falling apart in that case. Unless you mean the last episodes specifically. How was the script broken at episode 16?

Attached: Crown.jpg (705x960, 82.74K)

God I fucking miss the pre-digital animation area. It was gorgeous.

It is. My problem now is finding anything else as good. It's like what happens after finishing Breaking Bad.

Just watch Pacific Rim, it's Eva without the pedo weeabo shit

No you faggots.

It wasn't budget, it was just that Anno bit over more than he could chew. He was supposed to deliver episodes weekly. He spent most of the buffer time before weekly releases on the earlier episodes and was simply out of time for the rest.

He literally begged the TV Network to let him apologize live on Japanese television for having failed to deliver a good finale. The TV Network didn't let him, and thanks to that, Evangelion went into history.

Had Evangelion ended then and there, with the same level of animation quality as the rest of the show, it'd be yet-another-unremarkable piece of shit. EoE was a blessing.

>So Asuka fans are funko-pop buying soiboys?

Asuka in her school uniform was the first released and given its limited nature, is inherently worth more. The others are all commons which released a few months ago and so the one dollar price difference between Asuka at $12 and Rei at $11 shows a negligible difference in the Best Girl debate.

The unreleased Hot Topic exclusive Unit 01 variant is presently valued at $40 based on presales by individuals.

Why would Asuka do such a thing?

This basically sums it up

Jesus what a little bitch you are, shame on you

Except it isn't anywhere near 20 frames. Even as contrarian comedic exaggeration, that's retarded.
Not really, that's just a meme. The last episode is very well animated. Not conventionally so perhaps but neither is the whole series.

I've tried a number of Eva clones but they just don't hit the same itch. All it really shows is how Gainax at the time were pretty unmatched in terms of creativity and direction.

I liked stuff like Ghost Hound, Noein and Shinsekai Yori for the psychological stuff, and Eureka Seven and Gurren Lagann are great mecha shows, but even 25 years later Evangelion has never been matched.

It really is, isn't it?

Raleigh Becket = Shinji Ikari
Stacker Pentecost = Gendo Ikari
Mako Mori = Rei Ayanami

It's so fucking close. Pentecost basically saves Mako, just like Gendo saved Rei, and Rei like Mako is a stoic fighter that is loyal to the commander.
The story goes on with Raleigh and Mako bonding, just like Shinji and Rei bond in the anime series. Like the end of the Rebuild, it pretty much end with the two of them together.

Watch the 26 episode series and then End of Evangelion

It's fucking kino. The series gets a little to "animey" sometimes but End of Eva is my favorite film of all time hands down. The whole saga is one of the best character studies to ever be created on top of being just a solid sci fi action show

He means the terrorism thing which has been overblown somewhat.

>burger king

Attached: 0f9.jpg (667x445, 45.71K)

The fact that they made an Asuka funko pop earlier more or less proves that there is higher demand for Asuka funko pop. That said, the $1 price difference is, also, undeniably a difference.

You should still fuck off you retarded weeb

Seethe more gayboy

Are Funko pops even relevant in Japan? I always assumed Asuka was more popular in the West, with Rei being more popular in Japan. I don't have the stats for that of course.

Obviously being forced into that extremely limiting form of """""""animation""""""" required a lot of story workarounds to limit the need for action into practically non-existence

>good opinions
>posts best girl
Good lad keep it up.

I like second rebuild movie, it's like "what if characters were a bit more socially capable?"
third one I hate, it has sitcom level conflict, time skip was stupid, and I can't see how shinji can interact with anyone after that

It's simpler than that. Rei dominates the Japanese popularity polls and the Japanese cultural mind. Asuka doesn't.
But despite being less popular than Rei, Asuka has roughly 50% more otaku fanworks (doujins) and fanfiction. The hardcore otaku eva fanbase are also largely, into Asuka. This is in Japan.

So different types of people pick different favorites, it's also natural considering Rei hasn't been presented positively since 1997.
In the west, those who get into anime and go as far as to pick a favorite character are always going to be otaku. So like otaku, they overwhelmingly prefer Asuka over Rei.

Redpill me on ghost in the shell

I mean maybe he started reading Freud and then halfway through the series once he had referenced enough of it, Bob's your uncle, he became obsessed with it and like many such cases decided that in fact fantasy is all a form of escapism. At which point more than likely he didnt want to do any more world building or heroic battles, just to evoke a sense of dread and what he perceives as therapy for incels.
I'm not STRICTLY bashing him, I love EoE for how striking it is. I just see scripted discussion having immense problems because he approaches the human being from a completely rigid angle of perspective and instrumentality of social interaction and that all the aspects of the human mind that are, in a word, imaginary, are just delusions.
Tl.dr. I wouldnt want to be Anno's math teacher because he doesnt agree that imagination adds complexity to realism.

The development of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series ran close to deadlines throughout its production run. The initial cuts of the first two episodes were screened at the second Gainax festival in July 1995, only three months before they were aired on television. By episode 13 the series began to deviate significantly from the original story, and the initial script was abandoned. The number of Angels was reduced to 17 instead of the original 28, and the writers changed the story's ending, which had originally described the failure of the Human Instrumentality Project after an Angel attack from the moon. Not only did the series suffer from scheduling issues, but according to Anno, despite Gainax being the lead studio for the series, the company itself had inadequate materials and staff for the full production of the series. Only three staff members from Gainax were working on the series at any given time, and the majority of the series' production was outsourced to Tatsunoko Production.

Asuka is just coomer bait. No-one actually likes her for her bitchy personality, they just like redheads.

Starting with episode 16, the show changed drastically, discarding the grand narrative concerning salvation for a narrative focusing on the individual characters. This change coincided with Anno's development of an interest in psychology after a friend lent him a book on mental illness. This focus culminated in a psychoanalysis of the characters in the two final episodes. The production ran so close to the airing deadline that the completed scenes used in the preview of the twenty-fifth episode had to be redesigned to work with the new ending. These episodes feature heavy use of abstract animation, flashbacks, simple line drawings, photographs and fixed image scenes with voice-over dialogue. Some critics speculated that these unconventional animation choices resulted from budget cuts, but Toshio Okada stated that while it wasn't only a problem of schedule or budget, Anno "couldn't decide the ending until the time came, that's his style". These two episodes sparked controversy and condemnation among fans and critics of the series, including significant vitriol directed at Anno himself. In 1997, Hideaki Anno and Gainax released two animated feature films, providing an alternative ending for the show: Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion.

Talking to doors too. A lot of that in episode 25. Also other examples where they avoided animating speaking characters.
