The scale is too great and the timescales too long. The actors for essentially every single character would have to be changed at least once, probably twice for some, or the makeup/cgi budget would have to be huge.

I was like that, I always had a desire to read, but could never get into a book. Getting bored after a paragraph. I started with shorter, easier to read fiction novels instead of the heavy classics or 600 page historical books. Or find a book that a film you like was based on and see if it gives you a new viewpoint on the story

If you aren't much of a reader the book might be a bit too complex, it's not that Tolkien's prose is very verbose it's just that there is a lot to absorb. I would recommend reading The Hobbit first and then delving into lotr after that.
Keep in mind that Tolkien was professor of English language and literature at Oxford and one of the top philologists of the 20th century and made a fairly ground breaking prose translation of Beowulf. So lotr is very dense.
