don't mind me, I'm just posting the best and last great Western post-1990.
is the genre officially dead?
don't mind me, I'm just posting the best and last great Western post-1990.
is the genre officially dead?
but that's not Open Range
faggot Unforgiven was labeled the eulogy of the western in the same way that Logan or whatever was supposed to be for capeshit
neither are officially dead. you'd have to be an actual dumb dumb to think that. what office is in charge of even issuing such a statement -- the box office? then no again faggot
t. angry bitter seething junior neckbeard.
sorry to offend you with such a simple question.
the greatest moment in the history of cinema
exactly... I think that moment, that expression, illustrates perfectly the end... and metaphorically the end of the genre.
This movie is better than Unforgiven
wtf was with that random SNOW scene when the film was taking place in july??
*ahem
lel, this was just a cookie cutter western for disney audiences
>dude respect whores
>dude epic deconstruction of genre
Gay ass shit for liberal arts students. Masculinity is in legend and myths, not talking about your feelings about killing.
Appalloosa was great
have sex
The Proposition did the same story better
>dat moment when he sees the sun beam through the gun hole in his body
I love this movie.
That's not Tombstone
I liked Maverick and the 3:10 to Yuma remake. The Jeff Bridges True Grit was alright. Are we counting Bone Tomahawk?
This movie is amazing but it made me not wanna watch any other westerns for a bit
I caught up with my westerns last year because I had watched almost none before, and everything that people recommend are revisionist westerns. What are some classic ones that are just straight-up racist against injuns?
how's True Grit?
>lead in western flick is a captain save-a-hoe
absolute whoreshit
It's good. Not great. But I liked it
Though not quite exactly a western it has plenty of good elements of a such movie.
The Proposition
such a pro-2A kino, little ball had it coming for being anti-constitution and a libtoid gun-grabber
For me? It's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
This is a good western
>inb4 nooo not my whiterino lead role
Was going to post it, but like you said, not quite a western.
‘The Proposition’ is a better Western than Unforgiven, and in fact, the greatest Western since TGTBATU. Change my mind, fucko.
Nah, there are still some good entries from time to time. Slow West came out a couple of years ago and was fucking fantastic. The previews marketed it as a retarded buddy comedy, but it's actually this remarkably melancholy tour through a bunch of gorgeous lonely landscape shots.
>not quite a western.
It has the appeal of a western though, I'm not sure why. Maybe the frontier elements, the ruggedness and struggle against nature, etc. My grandpa who grew up on westerns and only watches oldie westerns quite enjoyed the movie.
not everything has to be edgy, grim and 'realistic' you know. in fact in unforgiven it's pretty jarring how nobody bats an eye at morgan freeman. whereas in tqatd the black gunslinger colonel fits right in.
Oh yeah because this movie is shit because of the nigger and not everything else
Holy shit your opinion gargles sweaty hobo balls. Tarantino hasn’t made a good film in 20 years.
It's too bad the Cohens didn't just make a Tom Waits western movie instead of that mismash disappointment.
>muh freedom of (((press)))
Yeah well that's just your opinion
Leave it to the Aussies to bring the tired old Western kicking and screaming into the new millennium.
Shut up, Foxx. You’re a talentless diversity hire. Baby Driver is the only role where you’ve actually played a black man.
Are you bitch made niggas really not gonna mention Tombstone?
Too fucking stupid to ctrl + f
>stick-on mustaches the movie
Get real, nigga.
ahem
Never saw it, is it any good?
The stories arent similar at all
Stylish but honestly think it's pretty weak as both a coens bro movie and as a western. Lots of other, better modern westerns imo like open range, 310 and appaloosa
>Maverick
absolutely based
I love Bridges and the Coens but this was honestly a very dull and mediocre entry into the genre. Buster Scruggs was better.
Actually, Once Upon a Time in the West is the greatest western since TGTBATU
>destroys your genre forever
Based, that was a great movie. My dad and I just watched it because we were bored one day but it turned out to be a real gem.
Agreed
*This is a reddit western.
Proposition was great
>Nobody says Rango
>mfw
you got me fwen
>Jesse James
>Tombstone
>Rango
>There Will Be Blood
>The Proposition
>The Quick And The Dead
>True Grit
>Appaloosa
>Maverick
>Deadwood
And that's not even getting into Neo-Westerns.
>Blocks your path
But that isn't The Way of the Gun (2000).
there not ready for it user in time they will be
OUATITW isn’t highly regarded for a reason.
>bought the directors cut on DVD ten or so years ago
>have never felt the urge to rewatch
Boring as shit famalam.
>masculinity is in legend and myths
So it doesn’t exist?
Underrated opinion.
>legend: actually happened but may have been exaggerated by oral tradition
>myth: fictional
I really wish Americans would stop using these terms interchangeably.
Oh no not the critical reception!
Filtered
All legends eventually turn into myths
That movie helped me lose my virginity. I didn't know anything about it, but I was in high school and I went on a first date to see it with this girl and had a really good time and then I got a blow job in the back of my 1998 Saturn.
Absolutely based Rango
no one cares, normalfag
>is the genre officially dead?
It isn't dead at all, it has been seeing a resurgence lately because the films can still be made at a lower budget and white people fleeing the ruinations of social justice will still gladly watch them.
I watch all of the westerns, so I'll post some for you guys looking for interesting and solid newer additions to the genre roster.
First up, Slow West.
lmao what does masculinity have to do with anything? Films aren’t some testosterone competition
Another solid film with a good cast and story, the premise is interesting.
overrated, its alright yeah but its not the be all end all as some of these plebs claim.
