From Chris and Zach's POV they got stage fright and acted like creeps in front of the execs, but I doubt with the kind of stuff Adult Swim puts out they where the most fucked-up people who ever got to pitch.

Real talk. I enjoyed the pilot but it's clear none of these guys could formulate a traditional joke.

they shoulda gone all in on the weird styles they excel instead of mixing conventional jokes and visuals into it, two people using one arm is still shitter than one person using two, wasn't horrendous and want more, if only to see if they can work together better

From what I've gathered the people at AS felt they have too many 'hell-themed' shows (your pretty face is going to hell, and they had just started Mr pickles) so they asked them to change the name and possibly retool the show to take out supernatural stuff I think, and Chris and Zach didnt want to give up any creative control so they said no.
I dont have sources and am sorta inferring some of this, but I do remember at one point Chris said AS JUST wanted them to change the name and they were idiots and said no, which he regretted.

Wasn't great, just felt like Cusack reusing the naive Australian Morty as round purple Spongebob. Last few minutes were pretty funny with the guy getting crucified, Mike killing the bleblings, and that TV jumpscare ending.

It wasn't a stand up set, it was funny because of the situations they were in. Pim being excited about showing the yellow dude a stupid twirling thing on tv and then being bummed out that he missed it was pretty funny. Pim being all "yay the world is your friend, just bee urself bro" then getting btfo by some nasty looking rotoscoped guy was funny too, as was the Yellow dude showing Desmond the ant. Not everything that is funny has to be a conventional joke.

I'm not into grossout humor so the first two minutes didn't really do it for me but I AM into kill yourself humor so I enjoyed it quite a lot once the character voiced by Mike showed up. This is definitely worth at least getting picked up for a season.

Cusack unironically leaves Zach in the dust humor wise and is a little bit better than Marc M. He's an incredibly flexible writer and has done a lot of pilots, it's why he got his own show before either of them. The problem is the accent throws Americans off and a lot of his humor instead of being edgy shit is actually dry true to life dialogue. I laughed my ass off at the YOLO pilot but I'm an Aussie so I don't know how American audiences will react.

I loved it, it had me laughing pretty consistently. I can see it getting old eventually, but I hope there are a decent amount of episodes.

1. Where the fuck is a rip of YOLO Crystal fantasy? That should be the real showstopper. Anyone have a link.

2. Smiling friends was mediocre. I'd give it maybe a 6/10. The hellbenders pilot was 100x better. Re-used jokes, it shows how limited zach is as a writer without the input of somebody like chris (you can tell michael probably had little say compared to zach in this as he has his own show).

I agree. Cusack's youtube vids and bushland adventures were miles ahead of smiling friends. Yet to see YOLO crystal fantasy.
