The fundamental sin of The Sopranos is that it's just porn. You don't care about any of the characters. Their stories are not compelling like in Goodfellas or The Godfather. There are no heroes. There is no joy. The show is just an excuse to watch mobsters shoot and stab each other with an occasional titty thrown in.
You didn't feel for any of the characters? What about Adriana?
Ignore him, he's trying to be all edgy and give an opinion on a series he's never seen
>huge list of supporting characters who never do anything of consequence
You have characters like Patsy and Silvio who are interesting, but almost nothing ever happens with them. And then you have characters that suck like Carmela and Janice who they show way too much. It gets annoying after a while.
This right here. Call me a big baby, but when I watch a series I expect to have characters to root for. There is nobody like that in Sopranos, every character is a scumbag so it doesn't matter what they do to each other. You can't have a good wrestling match with two heels because then the audience doesn't know who to cheer for.
The trope of the guy coming out of prison each season got old on me really fast.
Also, the trope of "the major new guy of the season" being in familly diners at Tony's
Silvio and Patsy were interesting? How? Janice was such a good character because she made you hate her.
why did none of the civilians just murder-suicide tony?
>Italian mafia in new york with old school beliefs and code
>Head of the mafia somewhat openly sees shrink
In the first episode Junior talks about how the modern mafia is a bunch of losers on their way out
Tony is a flawed and tragic character, you are not supposed to root for him exactly but if he leaves you cold then IDK what to tell ya.
New Jersey. He didn't openly see one, and worried a ton about what would happen if it got out. Later he had to much power to care. Him not giving a fuck in the later seasons about what people thought about him being a dickhead lead to his downfall.
the show suffered every time they'd step out of the hyper-specific mafia world

Come on this guy is whoring himself out for money, he's been pushing himself so hard
At least we got Carmela's tits and ass in Season 6. But god, following her pointless life was an exercise in tedium.
A big fault of the show is it honestly expecting me to give a fuck about whatever unimportant shit Carmella or the kids are doing when Tony and the gang are doing the actual cool, dangerous shit. That and the fact that problems literally just pop up one after another in a very inorganic way, but that is mostly because it's a tv show and needs something new each episode.
Janice was fucking horrible. I watch shows to relax not to hear some woman bitch and moan. She should have been off the show after killing Richie, but they forced her into some unrealistic relationship with Bobby.
How about the flaw where you made this same fucking thread yesterday
The guy who played Silvio seemed to treat the whole thing like a long comedy sketch. It's like he thought he was in a different show.
Lot of the episodes went nowhere, and had 0 consequences. Such as the entire episode the FBI spent getting the bug into Tony's house. It felt like Chase just wanted us to hear his cool music mashups.
Oh the show is extremely flawed. The characters are mostly caricatures and act irrationally. There's tons of bad dialogue and poor acting. Still, great show for its time, however flawed.
its a dumb show
enjoyable
but dumb
I feel like if I hate a character, the show is doing something right to bring out emotions like that. Like how everyone hated Joffrey in GoT.
that's why he was the realest gangster of them all
I made it a few days ago yeah, are you upset I bumped a blacked thread or something?
It baffles me when people say that Silvio was interesting. He ran a strip club.. amazing.
some of the mob hit scenes were really fucking stupid. like Jacki Jr's death, or the Rusty Millio hit when two italian guys are blocking him in his driveway and he doesn't find it suspicious at all
silvio was the only interesting character in the entire show.
Therapy between Tony and Mefli got pretty stale at the end. Seemed like it was just a way for us to hear Tony being real when the show wanted us to know for sure how he felt.
i hope someone shoots you in the back of the head.
Tony and Christopher should have spit roasted Melfi on her desk. Stale no more
Bump.
Because I love to see this shitshow get dabbed on, and hear the reeing of the fanbois.
Vito's faggot arc was waaaaaaaaay too long.
lackluster 4th season.
bout it
That only happens with four characters across 7 seasons (yes 7) and one of them is Paulie
Never mind that two of those directly lead to Tony's death.
lackluster compared to the other seasons maybe, because it was an awkard transitional season between the fun early Mafia wish fulfillment seasons and the later weird depressing seasons, but it's still 10/10 compared to other shows
>comes to NJ
>hangs around for like 4 seasons
>goes home
This is what a "character arc" looks like in The Sopranos
I think the producers wanted to get rid of him and the Carmela subplot was a last minute decision, iirc
The actor kept breaking NDA so they canned him
its good because its simple. exactly like seinfeld. you dont get tired of watching it.
>You don't care about any of the characters.
Soulless redditor.
spoken like someone who hasnt even watched the show
Season 1 is unironically the only flaw. It is basically a parody comedy drama.
The whole series is a comedy
why didn't they just boot him and CGI him in?
>someone turns the TV on randomly
>it's on a major news channel and they're immediately talking about an isolated incident that we had seen take place earlier while referring to a number of characters we are familiar with
>random people that come into contact with the cast whisper about such and such being a mobster or being related to one despite nobody in the general public giving a shit about the mafia since the mid 90s let alone knowing any actual mobsters by name
>agent harris is treating a mob war like a baseball game by the end of the show
every single character being a stand in for david chase's mommy and daddy issues
Most people are caricatures who act irrationally.
He wasn't an actor, Chase wrote him in because he likes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (the band he plays in). Can't really blame him for hamming it up.
>WHERE ARE THE GOOD GUYS?? I WANT TO KNOW WHO THE BADDIES AND THE GOODIES ARE!!!!!
Why are Americans like this?
>Because I love to see this shitshow get dabbed on, and hear the reeing of the fanbois.
I just want to point out this is the intelligence level of people who dislike the Sopranos.
Imagine being this retarded.
Would you believe The Sopranos was one of the first shows of its kind to have no good guy to root for? Now every show is like that. It works better in The Sopranos because on some level you want to believe Tony isn't a total scumbag.
Most people in the real world are scumbags when it comes down to it too. Of course a shut in NEET Incel wouldn't get this.
Why does every character need an arc? First the brainlets insisting every show needs a character to root for and now this. I think you guys are just upset the show goes against convention so much since independent thought must be terrifying for an NPC.
>wanting the same tired old good vs. evil shitshow
I think Marvel films are more up your alley, sport.
Most people are good, but not entirely trustworthy. Thinking everyone is evil is a neet incel thing to believe.
Id say about 10% of the population actually practice what they preach. The rest just virtue signal and only do something if there is something in it for themselves.
Its the truth the average redditor will never get.
Janice is one of the best characters on the show.
>You have characters like Patsy and Silvio who are interesting, but almost nothing ever happens with them. And then you have characters that suck like Carmela and Janice who they show way too much. It gets annoying after a while.
This is why on my yearly rewatch of The Sopranos, I FF thru all the pointless bullshit scenes with Carmela and her spec house, whatever Meadow is whining about, AJ being a retard, etc. and just watch the mafia stuff, which is all anybody was ever interested in anyways.
>so much since independent thought must be terrifying for an NPC.
>widely considered by normies to be one of the best shows of all time
Why even bother rewatching the show at this point when you can just watch those never-ending "X gets whacked" ..."Y lays down a beating" ... "Z confronts A about B" compilations on YouTube?
