YTMND really makes me sad, it reminds me of the days when the internet used to be innocent. We did stuff just for fun and to get a few hucks out of one another.
Still my favorite
There was a Dr. L337 remix of Happy Days theme that always amused me, anyone have a link with it?

I guess you're too young to remember all the christcuk vs. fedora threads or american political debates in every fucking forum there was.
It really does feel like a very different era. An era definitely distinct from the 90s usenet / geocities interne,t but still more innocent from the various 2010s internet eras too. Yeah the meming felt more goofy and had a distinct 00s energy to it. But it was the beginning of meme culture for sure, Yas Forums culture and YTMND and Something Awful etc kind of birthed it, but it was different memes, now almost all gone. Cockmongler, NEDM, etc.
It definitely wasn't innocent back then, but it just had a feeling of being very new. When it started to crest in the late 00s it felt really exciting and powerful. Which then kind of crested even higher with the meme wars of 2016, but wasn't quite as childishly goofy as before, as postironically silly as it even was. Not that older memes and campaigns weren't often really dark.
felt like the days before SJWs made all the rules on the internet. Yas Forums seems like the last place left for us internet outlaws who just want to laugh at fucked up things that those faggots tell us we cant laugh at
Glad to see YTMND hasn't lost its humor with the new stuff.

It was just better because everything was novel, you could do whatever you could think of with no worries about getting spied on by the website or govt etc and less shit skins and less normal fags
Funnily enough I was actually thinking about how much I missed the earlier internet, and although I still do, one of the things that I suddenly remembered WAS the fucking relentless Atheism shit that was everywhere. Honestly, one of the best memes of all time was the fedora meme *just* because it made Atheists a joke. It took one image/word to invalidate every dumb fucking argument people would get into with them. Only a shame it came so late.
The irony is that there's really nothing people from still using the wider internet and being more free spirited and anarchistic but somehow everyone got convinced to move themselves onto platforms that superficially resemble the openness of the internet but actually don't at all, are just housed on one (controlled and regulated) database.
Innocent in the sense that the internet was far more disconnected from real life. When you went on the internet you were either no one or some user like sk84lyf69. Since everyone is now on th eitnernet thanks to facebook and iphones, there is no discsonnect anymore. People (i.e. normies) took it way to serioulsy when 10 years ago you'd get called a nigger or faggot and it meant absolutely nothing. Now you do it and people will contact your work and try to get you fired.
It was more due to atheism being hip and counter culture in an age of seemingly conservative attacks on media and the internet, a lot of those people would develop into the "enlightened atheist" faggots who became walking stereotypes, hence the well deserved fedora meme
Are any of those types even left at this point? Feels like they dissapeared overnight
There are still obscure forums, you and most other people just don't happen to use them.

This music brings back so much nostalgia for me.
they got replaced by neckbeards larping as christians and 60 year old boomers
Someone post ric flair loses at the price is right
Yeah the internet used to literally be just nerds. I was listening to this guy talk about being on the earlier internet even back in the 80s and it was just this tiny select culture of super high iq tech nerd types, and still mostly just nerdy early tech adopters in the 90s until about the mid 90s and the households starting going online. By sometime around the late 90s/ early 00s was when I remember the message board cultures really starting to take off with more young people and having all these memes and stuff. At first more just being a few visual in-jokes on specific boards, and then that All Your Base meme being one of the memes to be more well-known across various communities. Also, the It's A Trap meme.
But yeah one downside of the nerdiness of the internet was the atheist culture - because it wasn't just nerds but math-y tech nerds. Which is why there's still a corny atheist culture over on reddit. Yas Forums being more edgy of course kind of backlashed against the expected nerd cliches I guess.
But anyway while more kids went online in the early 00s, I don't think normal people really started to flood online and hang out in droves until social media. Which is almost a whole other internet. Suddenly very corporate, and full of women, and normal people cultures, and then liberals pestering the platforms to favor liberal rules of discourse etc.
