In less than 100 years we have all become complete consumer whores. We literally worship childish products like Gods. Superheroes, video games, things that less than 40 years ago were recognized as fodder for children are now being treated as beacons of culture.
How the fuck did this happen? How did we turn into such a pathetic lot? I loved superheroes and videogames as a kid. I think it's okay to still enjoy them as an adult as long as their nature is recognized. But nowadays it is expected to respect these things as art, to treat them the same as Bosch's works (and if you don't you're an elitist/incel/etc). And it seems to be that it's the liberal crowd, the ones who should be the most anti-capitalist, the enemies of consumerism, who are the biggest whores for product that there are. It's so pathetic and the absurdity of it is self evident yet somehow if you point it out you're ostracized?

Videogames went to shit the moment they changed from games into "experiences".

They used to be about having good response times or having good knowledge of how the product you were presented operated and how you could use the ruleset presented to you to succeed.

Videogames now days try to incite emotions not by personal risk taking and triumph, but by presenting you with a clear and easy paths with artificial emotion that the general population (skilled or not) can easily understand.

They require no true effort or practice.
Think of golfing with hole-seeking golfballs or archery with auto aim assist.

You don't need to understand anything beyond a surface level.
It's like going from a tarkovsky film to the latest michael bay transformers movie.

I'm gonna refute ya on Alyx. That game is an outstanding step forward for VR and for games in general, but it's not Mario 64, it's Super Mario Bros on the NES for you get my analogy.
Alyx is a landmark title for the entire gaming medium, but when Alyx's Super Mario 3 comes out good lord. It's a very exciting decade ahead of us for games.

Bungie got better with Halo 3 with that stuff. The original map pack was kinda retarded (as Arby n Chief famously commented on in its first episode), but they started getting more and more complicated, more worth their money and also began releasing freebies. And even then, it was ultimately done to increase the longevity of the online play, which was absurdly fun. I don't know why paid DLC alone would make you *hate* the series, that's a pretty big turnaround. I hate Call of Duty today, but I still like the series from 1 - WaW (never got into Black Ops).

Halo: Combat Evolved was great, everything after that was a degradation of the original.
