Inferior to the original cuts
I have this box set, it’s awesome. Two Towers extended is on a whole new level of kino, it’s absolutely amazing what’s difference the added Rohan scenes make
all that poetry you missed out on.
you’ll get an axe lodged in your nervous system
Nothing special, read the book if you want to truly experience the story fucking pleb
more orc dialogue that makes them somehow better and worse at the same time, the one neat scene with the mouth of sauron, some more songs, and some stuff that was smart to cut for the theatricals, namely some elf scenes that are a little too brightly lit and kinda goofy lookin.
The additional content gets progressively worse. Fellowship is generally a marked improvement with the exception of more of Bilbo's exposition at the start, Two Towers is both hit and miss, but the Return of the King is filled with superfluous and overblown action and some scenes that are just pure retarded. It has a couple of good extra scenes, but overall I prefer the theatrical RotK. The real reason to buy the BR is for all of that extra content.
This set has the best extra features of any film series I’ve ever seen
If you liked the originals it's more of a good thing. I prefer the extended cuts now.
It's better watching the extended cuts after you wait the theatrical versions
Fellowship extended is a whole nother level of wholesome. Two Towers extended is essential because it fleshes out Faramir so much better. I'm indifferent on RoTK extended, because while I really liked the addition of some scenes, others seemed a bit forced or unnecessary.
I can never remember what was added in the Extended editions.
Embedded, casual
Mouth of Sauron was essential. I don't know how they ever cut it.
fpbp
not the beheading though, super unnecessary even from someone who adores the Jackson adaptations of this trilogy.
Well Sarumans death for one, he just sort of stops appearing in the regular edition.
Death of saruman was something i dont get why they cut desu.

Pure kino. To this day its the best trilogy ever made. Each film is a masterpiece itself and need to be kept in a buried vault somewhere for preservation after we all nuke eachother.
The CGI in the Saruman death scene is kinda jarring in the extended cut and it feels... unfinished or unrefined for lack of a better term. I'm hoping the 4k cuts address this. Saruman's arc in the films is objectively set in stone after two towers so for a theatrical cut that's already over 3 hours, I can see them justifying cutting this 15+ minute segment.
Basically this, there one or two moments that don't need to be there but overall the additions are great and flesh the films out/add more stories.
It was weird watching this film when it released and hearing about the "million endings", I thought they were going to do the scouring of the shire after not showing him getting killed. Then they get back and it's all peaceful, I remember sitting there thinking "what the fuck" for the last 15 minutes.
>the 4k HDR Remaster is out in 2 months
>lets watch LOTR right now!!!!
stop right there.
Yeah but the last 15 minutes is where the feels come in.
Fellowship's ending still gets me the hardest though
>CONSOOM
>CONSOOM
>NEW THING GOOD OLD THING BAD
>MUST CONSOOM
seething poorfag with 20 year old TV detected.
Might as well watch the grainy DVD extended cuts with this logic.
(You)
That's true, this is the best scene in the while trilogy imo

Not much going on in your life huh?

yes, youre mom every tuesday night.
No I’m not.
I was watching this yesterday and today and realized I don't give a fuck about all the action anymore, I was tuning it out. I guess it's to do with me being much older since I last watched it. It was comfy when they were making their way through the mines of moria in the first one, but I didn't care for the battle scenes as much in 2 and 3. Perhaps it also has something to do with being used to ridiculous amounts of CGI spectacle. When I was a teenager it blew me away.
I really like the stories though and I'm going to try the audio books next to see how they're different. I've heard the films did some of the characters much differently, for instance Sarumon wasn't as much in the thrall of Sauron and it was clearer he wanted to be ruler himself. Faramir and his father (forgot the name, the Steward) were portrayed unjustly by the movies in comparison.
I bought the Blu-Ray boxset so i'll be downloading the 4k version, guilt free. as long as they remove the piss stain filter.
Holy quads
Anyway, even as someone who really enjoys Jackson's film version of LOTR, the books are always going to be superior. Fellowship of the Ring is one of the comfiest books you'll probably ever read if you really get in to it. A very key distinction between film and book is that Tolkien does not glamorize violence and fighting. That's not to say it isn't present, because its obviously part of Middle-earth but its very understated. A very easy way to visualize this is the Battle of Helms Deep in Two Towers. In the book there is some build up to it, but it is by no means the crucial focal point of the book like it is in the film. It occupies one chapter, Tolkien says his piece and moves forward with the narrative.
With all that being said I love both versions of the LOTR story, even if Jackson took some creative liberties that Tolkien would have scratched his head at.
this. there's a reason they weren't included in the final cut
If all the other user's comments dont really matter to you then I would find a comfy chair, get some snacks and drinks on your table and just enjoy. If your feelin' a piss break comin' then prepare to pause during a slow segment or if your ultra dedicated Id just get a piss jug. If it's two then see above recommendation, member to take the piss jug with you then thoroughly clean it out.

13 hours of walking to throw a ring down a hole.
its weaponized Autism of the highest order.
I got my sister to watch the Star Wars Prequels, how do I convince her to watch this with me?
how to do you clean your piss jug? i've just been rinsing mine out.
Have her listen to some of the soundtrack from Fellowship, if she's cultured she will be hooked.

Unironcally this. The theatrical versions are cinematically superior, but I still watch these from time to time just to stay in the world a bit longer.
holy autism

show her a youtube montage of arwen and aragorn romance set to an Evanescence track, don't mention the hours and hours of action scenes besides for the cringe clip of Eowyn saying "I am no man!"
That was just a rumor from like 6 months ago. It's not coming.
There is, the studio wanted to make more money by having more showings per day
we will all be dead in 6 months, I'd advise they release it now.
Half right. The extended editions have some great scenes, like in Fellowship where Frodo and Sam see the Elves leaving Middle Earth and Gimli talks about being granted three of Galadriel's hair which helps to show him starting to come around on Elves. However they also have some scenes which fuck with the pacing and are unnecessary such as Merry and Pippin drinking the juice that makes them grow taller. It's a mixed bag, but it's also worth watching the extended editions at least once.
Nah Sauron is better as a completely faceless entity
People with small tvs are pathetic, most people use a tv enough to justify spending a bit more unless you are a poorfag
I'm with you there, I love special features. Pic related has the second most of any set I have, after LOTR.
As said it was because Jackson didn't like how it portrayed Aragorn murdering an envoy. Not sure why they didn't just have it end like it did in the books where the Mouth gets scared as shit and runs away, I guess they felt that it would be difficult to convey it and decided just to remove it instead.
It works so excellently as a climactic set-piece in a movie though. Obviously the movies are going to emphasise different things as they have to follow an engagement structure more than a book.
yeah, i'm thinking based
what about master race chads who buy cheap projectors
