he went from being a slave to immediately being told he is the chosen one and being put in a religious order that contradicted everything he was taught to know. Then when he reached the age of maturity, the minute something happened in his life that the jedi didnt have a satisfactory answer to (Padme having a child and his visions of her dying) he did what he believed to be the right thing, sought out a new teacher, and pledged complete devotion in hopes to gain new power.
In reality Anikan was basically a slave his entire life, serving one master or another
