The black guy was the one with the book. The tree pisser didn't deserve it. How was he supposed to know that this dead tree log is some sacred artifact? He should have apologized, but that isn't a justifiable reason to kill him. Meanwhile, the black guy was specifically told the rules he had to follow if the group would continue to allow him to look at their sacred texts and he deliberately broke those rules.
