I've seen frozen and Moana at least 10 times each. I think Moana gets a little boring towards the middle. It has nice visuals though, look at the scene when baby Moana meets the sea. And the story is interesting because the Polynesians actually sailed the whole pacific ocean in those boats. The human spirit is inspiring.

I actually like the melodies, but the lyrics are really ass at points, with the worst offenders being the song about living on the island where the chief just straight-out narrates the basic shit he's doing in a dull and non-poetic way, the part where she keeps rhyming "island" with "island", and the big finale song being her just saying "I AM MOANA".
They really needed a better lyricist to come in and brush up the songs.

I think you have to be pretty blind to what goes into musical design, and take a lot for granted, to complain it’s a simple song about their lives.
