The writing was on the wall when classifieds died which was the bread and butter for smaller media. Now you have effectively no investigative journalism going on to expose local corruption and that restriction has travelled up the chain. The problem is that nobody can replace a business model the internet has destroyed and most surviving publication survive on a mixture of subscriptions, advertorials and axing anyone who might rock the boat or demand a decent wage.
