They drag on, and on, and on doing nothing. It was the first series I dropped growing up and I had already read LotR three times and not been bored at all.
There's also a terrible schtick that's repeated throughout, of Main Male Leads 1 through 3 lamenting "oh, I have such woes with women, if only I were good with them like the other two guys." The women are also all colossal bitches, which makes sense considering the author was a genuine autist to whom women were an enigma and whose chief consultant on writing women was his shrew of a wife.
His female characters also all had heavily repetitive ticks, like crossing their arms, tugging their braid, smoothing their skirts, etc. At several points you have an entire party of women and a sizeable chunk of the writing becomes this obnoxious nothingness. I found a counter one time and all of the main culprits had been repeated hundreds of times throughout the books.
The books do have a few highlights, but fuck, they are not worth all the shit and slog.

They books definitely have high and low parts...but if you can make it through the high parts are really fucking good

netflix is funded by subscriptions and amazon by the store. no one gets prime/netflix for original shows

After Dumai's Wells I thought it would be changing point in the series and now shit will start to happen, but the whole next book is with the girls being useless and annoying that even Mat cant make you interested enough to carry on.

Shit does start to happen, but not really until book 9. 10 is terrible, its what everyone else is doing during book 9, they happen concurrently. However, book 11 things ramp up significantly and keep going until the end.
