When it switched to HD
>inb4 ut was al-
NO

This may hurt your disgusting milleniall feelings, but The Simpsons still had quality before HD. It was switching to HD that killed it

am i gonna say it?

no im not gonna say it

>Season 20
Retard

Season 11 Episode 6.
They should've rested on their laurels after the previous ep.

Exactly this
When you see the HD opening, you just know it's probably going to be a shit episode. There was a fair amount of garbage in the years before then, sure, but it goes from like a 80-20 good/bad ratio to a 5/95 immediately.

I still find it unbelievable that sneed is part of the Zombies Simpsons seasons

whats a season where nearly all the episodes are good

the episode where Bart sells his soul and they make a weird Michael Jackson joke about him being the boogeyman

Was it ever actually true that some stations edited the SD opening into HD episodes because people would change the channel?

That sounds like something I would do but that seems way beyond the mental capacity of the average american.

That episode where they get naked and lost in the forest and Maggie gets adopted by bears

Yeah, Channel 4 are notorious for this.

They also edit the episodes to take out anything "problematic"

For example the Apu and Manjula episode they completely remove Homer dressing as ganesh

Even though that entire scene is poking fun at Homer

The ep where Homer gets raped by a panda was pretty bad

That sounds pretty funny but I haven't ever seen it myself. I know some channels already alter content (cut jokes/scenes, speed the show up by 10-15% to cram in a few more ads, etc), so I don't think it would be beyond them.

The rest of the episodes would have that distinctive "art" style though.

when Chuck sold the store

Probably looking at 4 or 5

Every episode in 2-8 is good.

when Phil Hartman did

Why is Homer Badman the best episode?

Episodes started getting wobbly come season 8; but this truly was the nail in the coffin; no way to go out but meta.

It predicted the future so accurately that it was almost prophetic. Imagine if it came out at the height of gamergate or something

HD didn't kill it. Switching from 4x3 to 16x9 killed it. 4x3 is the format of charm and comedy. 16x9 is the format of empty standardization. Even movies try going wider than 16x9

Chuck sold the store prior to season 1 though

Did they seriously cut off a third of the screen?
Fuck me

I don't think aspect ratio has anything to do with quality. Cropping 4:3 so it looks like 16:9 is pretty dumb, though. Also Sneed.

We made it further than I thought we would

Disney ruins the fuck out of anything they rerelease. Have you never been in a disney blu ray "restoration" thread or something? They give absolutely no fucks they probably just have some generic software to convert everything.

Came to post this.
Also after that episode the Spanish dubber for Homer changed, and he was also the director of dubbing so apart from shittier episodes we got a way more shittier dub.

>Did they seriously cut off a third of the screen?
yes
>aspect ratio has anything to do with quality
Aspect ratio is embedded in the interpretation of the audience. A wide film is serious. A narrow film is to-the-point. Imagine seeing Lawrence of Arabia in 16x9 or 4x3

It's the Tomacco episode isn't it? To be fair, that episode is overall pretty crappy. Certainly the Fuck n Suck joke is far from Swartzwelder-tier.

i wonder how the newer releases compare. the 90s+ animated films. I know Cinderella is a good example of shit.

>literally cuts off text and important information
>presumably ruins some scenes and jokes
Was there ever any kickback against this senseless change, or did Disney fans just roll over and accept it? I can see no reason for it other than because zoomers aren't used to a 4:3 ratio.

>generic software to convert everything
What Disney does typically is it upscales and oversaturates low resolution transfers from 30 year old laserdisks, sometimes even changing color beyond simple correction

They said they are working on the proper aspect ratio

Now what work they have to do I dont know because surely its already done

>They said they are working on the proper aspect ratio
I am as confused as you. Just copy/paste the files off a DVD version, what work is there to be done

4-6, which are also the only good seasons of the show.

sneed

when they started with the spinoffs

so...the left is just DVD, right? Or do I have to be on the search for old disney VHS tapes now.

This is my internally canonical season finale. Everything after this doesn't exist.

If I'm not mistaken the left is the laserdisk version. Laserdisk was usually the best version for a lot of old movies.

It's not as bad as some of the disney movies but you can see they're still using their nasty fucking smoothing filter on these

>laserdisk version
not sure if i am boomer or zoomer for not knowing what this is

A zoomer, and a retarded one at that

you must be ancient holy fuck who owned a laser disc lmao tell me about the civil war

Treehouse of Horror season 8.

Treehouse of Horror episodes were always the best offering of each season. The 8th Halloween special even has the classic parody of The Fly and the experimental Homega Man with 3D animation. But then the episode ends with a completely unfunny Salem witch trial bit where Marge is a witch. Whereas other Halloween segments were violent, surreal, or nightmarish, Easy Bake Coven was just lame. Every subsequent Treehouse of Horror was worse and worse, with the next season featuring Homer's evil hair transplant and Maggie is an alien on Jerry Springer.

I'm 25, I'm just not retarded

it's the greatest joke of all time, no memeing

fucking ANCIENT

>Easy Bake Coven

Yeah the one is really shit

I will admit though I have a weak spot for the Jerry Springer one

Pretty much this
The show was the embodiment of "watching TV" in the late 80s and 90s. Sitting your fat butt in front of a fat tube and seeing a relatable family dynamic with distinct characters and soul. It was in a slow decline in health since the early 00s, but this marks the official TOD. The point at which it became Zombie Simpsons. All reanimated and using manufactured replacements.

>LaserDisc never managed to gain widespread use in North America
ah so you're european lmao

Cope

Seethe

You should have seen the buffy upscale. legit 80% fucked

I love you, Sneed.

>I know it that way "try one more time, don't don't don't"
and they were pretending to be statues

>Liking an unfunny episode that shits on a beloved character

that one really sticks out in my memory too. Maybe it's because I didn't know who the celebrities were or because they didn't really add anything to the story. The whole thing just felt lazy and forgettable. Like nothing interesting happens in the whole episode.
