It followed Fire Walk With Me pretty well. Watching it that first time when it aired was an incredible experience.
I'm not familiar with that, but the books were good, both 'The Secret History' and 'The Final Dossier'. They really filled in the blanks and added new dimensions to the whole thing.

I love it but I will never not be upset about how absolutely fantastic the penultimate episode was for setting everything up only to get absolutely LYNCHED in the finale
I was slightly underwhelmed about the whole "Cooper goes back in time to save Laura" thing, mainly because I had read that theory somewhere on the internet way before The Return existed and I always thought it was too sci-fi for Twin Peaks.
But the fact that Cooper failed and became trapped in a different universe made me appreciate it, also the way his travel back in time ties to FWWM (Laura scream when she's with James) is pretty cool. I wonder if Lynch had that on mind when doing that FWWM scene in 1992.
some parts of the second episode take place before the end of the first episode. Lynch is trying to tell the audience that some scenes they see will be out of order

We know for sure that Mr. C gets one set of coordinates from Ray and one set from Jeffries. Diane sends hers after he says he has three sets, so we don't count that one. His third set is probably straight from Ruth Davenport's corpse (same source as Diane, as it turns out, but not through Diane).
Early on, we see Mr. C kill Bill Hastings' wife, and later we learn that whoever killed Ruth got Bill's wife's name from him at the same time. I think this is meant to indicate that Mr. C was at least there when Bill and Ruth met up with Major Briggs. If he was there, he would have had access to the coordinates written on Ruth's arm, which would for his third set.
