Dead thread. Guess it really is a Pasolini edition.
you passed the test, now you're allowed to post on the /film/ thread
>the more fake it looks, the more real it feels
How'd they do it?
Bssed
no idea but those sets are fuckin gorgeous
/film/ sucks
I miss /lbg/
bros...
/film/ is what you make it. how about contributing some insight on an arthouse film? what are your thoughts about Matias Piñeiro's (or choose your own director) work?
>the Heike battle and suicide sequence
goosebumps everytime
This is why /film/ suck. Arthouse is gay.
it's cool. some people dig arthouse flicks and some people would rather whine. guess which one you belong to.
Name 3 african kinos.
"Shadows and Fog" is the most underrated Woody Allen film. It's one of my favorites.
Does Criterion channel dump a bunch of films each month and get a bunch more or do they just drip feed new releases?

Some user showed this movie being not really popular out of the state and it's surprising since the OST really feels americanized(in a good way)
Fun film espicially those last scenes, thought i was just getting a normal bromance movie but it took me to places i didnt expect, it reminded me Fists in the Pocket but less serious but that wouldnt really explain it.
thanks guys, some of these I already watched and some I already had in mind to watch. as for watched older movies I think post-50s cinema is overall more worthwhile
Cabinet of Dr Caligari is 100 years old and totally worth watching.
the acting was good, the setting, how it was shot was decent but any deeper than that it seemed too inscrutable and nebulous. seemed too much style over substance. the characters themselves were very weak. had no meaning for me. just not for me. also there was alot of cringe bits in it and the cgi just ruined some of it for me.
Ceylan worth getting into?
Favorite Cassavetes?
For me it's Faces
Suggest me 2 Coppola films, I have watched:
>Apocalypse Now
>The Godfather
>The Godfather 2
>The Godfather 3
>Rumble Fish
>The Conversation
Which are his 2 best films I haven't seen?
Shadows
Should I watch Greed or Foolish Wives first?
I guess Tetro if you enjoyed Rumble Fish
One From the Heart and The Cotton Club
foolish wives, greed is great but it's a tenth of what it could have been

>genre
faggot pseud
what's the point in ranking genres? all that matters is if the film is good or not. most great stories you could make into (nearly) any genre and still have it be just as engaging. also "shakespeare adaptations" is not a genre
Who in the fuck rates movies based solely on what genre they fall into? Retard.
Yes.
Directors and hating on the GOAT Antonioni, name a better combo
This but make sure it's the new cut of The Cotton Club.
>Hard Sci-Fi in God tier
Stopped reading.
Just saw 12 angry men and enjoyed it. Give me some more comfy movies from this era?
> he hasn't seen enough movies to understand the cultural machnination and ideas behind genres
Pretty sad for you bros. Eventually you'll get redpilled and realise film evaluation is ultimately cultural evaluation.
>film evaluation is ultimately cultural evaluation
found the tranny
Why are Americans so fucking shit at propaganda? Fucking gommunists and nazis makes Potemkin, October, Triumph of the Will and Onions Cuba. What do Americans make? Top Gun? Zero Dark Thirty? 24?
L'Eclisse is genuinely awful though
ahem
Godard's "Le Pauvre Petit Garçon Blanc" has a similar concept and is just as good
> n-n-n-no I view terrible '70s b-movies ironically but I still love them! Haha Fulci is totally one of the best directors of all time! Haha I value films based on how weird and EBIN AWESOME they sound when I describe them! It's Jon Voight in a karate fight with a dog and tons of gore! Ebinnnn!
True, but that's not national propaganda. As retarded as the KKK are, at least they have a more convincing cultural ground to stand on than America the nation.
I'm honestly surprised such a nationalist nation makes their nationalism appear so fucking kitsh.
What's the difference?
What are you even talking about? I implied that film evaluation is not cultural evaluation, and you think that means I enjoy watching shitty 70s b-movies? I was just saying that looking at films as groups of films (through genres or cultures specifically) and judging individual films based on the group that you put them into is retarded
Obviously there are outliers. Lord of the Rings is great. Jaws is great. Jurassic Park is great. Il Divo is great. That doesn't stop fantasy, animal attacks and biopics from being shit genres.
Think of it like this, you hear a new Historical Epic is coming out vs you hear a new Rom Com is coming out. Which are you immediately more interested in seeing? The Rom Com might end up being the better movie, but you're not more exited for that genre of film, are you?
And everything can be categorized once you've watched enough, for the simple reason that every film has certain inspirations and every film fits into certain cultural contexts.
