As in 'movie deal', it means movie producers have bought the book's rights, and they sit on it until the film gets green written. It doesn't necessarily mean it'll made. A lot of books get a movie deal and get get unmade, but the authors get some money in return for selling the rights.

First movie was okay then every sequel was worse than the last with the last one just laughably bad.
Last movie did so terribly that the actors refused to do a final movie because it'd have no budget and probably be straight to dvd.
