I can't tell you what i do, but have been working pretty steadily in film for about 5 years now. this is from "argo" inside of hagia sophia. No jerk offs but I'm in quarantine and bored if anyone has serious questions about what life is like.
Anyone have real questions about working in Film?
Is all production shut down everywhere because of the bat aids?
should the Hagia Sophia be returned to the One Holy Orthodox Church or should the disgusting roaches continue to defile it?
Obviously...
Right now? not "all" but lots of shit being cancelled, money being lost, people are afraid. We did well in 2008 recession since people could not go on vacation, but how with netflix and other streaming there is real concern that movie theaters might be done for good.
Clicked because I recognised that dome. Went recently before the covid epidemic hit, the interior of that building might be the most amazing thing on this planet, and it's like 1,500 years old. Doesn't even look like a big deal from the outside.
Anyway OP, you should be the one to tell us what film life is like, I wouldn't know what to ask.
Are actors really as degenerate as this site makes them out to be?
Well, you know there is the legend that when Hagia Sophia is fiinallyy reconsecrated, the priest who disappeared into the wall with the eucharist will finally remerge. I would have loved to bring an orthodox priest in to reconsecrate the church during the night when we were filing, but we had roach minders everywhere...
dome is slightly younger since it collapsed and was repalced after Justinian. do you know it was done in only 5 years? Sacrada fFamilia in spain still not fully done after Gaudi's design...130 years ago ow I think..
settle the debate: is Ben Afflack an alchohol?
No. Studios don't want the risk, esp now of that shit with "me too." I can tell that weinstein was even WORSE than is being made out now though, and that I've known what he was doing and his nickname has been "the Pig" since I was an intern and was in the room for my first conference call with him over distribution.
Do you know anything about the live-action Naruto movie that is supposedly being made, and is it as terrible as I am expecting to be?
I think we’ll see a rebirth of small theaters. I live in a small college town and the two big name theaters are closed but the one local theater that shows old movies for $5 for an all day ticket is open and booming, The seating is tables and couches spaced apart so it follows the whole social distancing thing. They have a bar too.
Yeah I remember reading that, to be fair even managing to make that dome which almost looks unsupported from within must've been insane at the time. As for sagrada familia idk, I think catholic churches take longer because of the ridiculous amount of detail on their exterior, like the milan cathedral. But imo on the inside they're mogged by the eastern style.
Can't comment on BA and wouldn't, was always good to me.
is ben affleck truly /ourguy/
What's your opinion on Jannies?
well, when hagia sophia was built the church had yet to fracture so it was really a "cathoic" church in a sense. the timescale in which Hagia Sophia (and the sister church the turks destroyed, hagia Irene was build is just almost super -human..
here's another pic from a premiere I went to if anyone thought I was bullshitting. I have moar from inside hagia sophia at night, not sure where they are but can look if anyone cares..
Is it true nobody knows how to work with light anymore and everything is "let's fix it in post"?
True enough but western cathedral architecture was already diverging and kept going as time went on, which is why there's only few byzantine-like buildings in the west, while eastern orthodox style continued in the spirit of the hagia sophia. Technically it was still catholic at the time but it lied in the cultural sphere of what would become the centre of orthodoxy (constantinople).
nah. still have the best lighting, at least my projects, though we can do a lot more in post now to fix. JJ Abrams is esp concerned with light. Whatever you think of him, reason so much was done on location in jordan was to make sure that the lighting would be perfect.
true. just finished a good book from audible called "Lost to the West" on the history of Byzantine, which I would highly recommend.
Well why do current movies look like shit then?
good shit, will check it out, thanks
which in particular don't you approve of? After "Argo" (which in a way built on "munich" in a sense) there was a movement to sort of go back and try to imitate 70s movie0making, but I'd argue none did it as successfully as we did.
I'm also curious about this. Digital cameras suck nuts
I haven't seen Argo but it's almost everywhere. First it was the teal&orange, then stupid filters or desaturation. I'm pretty positive I haven't seen a night scene that would look like night in a long while.
I've gotten more and more into the history of the Byzantine empire and then the war with the turks. Another great book I'd recommend is...Iit'd called "The seige of malta, the battle of Lepanto, and the struggle for the center of the world." Seige of Malta and battle of Lepanto are absolutely fascinating. if i ever get the money, want to but a small sailboat and go investigate all the major sites in that area firsthand.
well, you're not alone in disliking but that's the trend now. If they virus outbreak lasts as long as some predict, it could kill film altogether and just turn everything to netflix and amazon garbage.
how can you not have seen it? I broke my ass for that, at least tell me you'll try to pirate it.
>that's the trend now
Why though? Money? It's ironic that as the technology goes on and on, movie people seem to be able to do less and less.
Not really into Middle-East clusterfucks
this is kind of Ot for this thread, I don't work on "the crown" but I have many friends who do/ This actress is absolutely beautiful in person, though it doesn't always translate on camera. she plays young princess anne.
why? because you can mop up a lot more in post when filmed on digital. The whole format--esp when it involves CGI-- is not based on digital. The reason I think you should see argo is since we really stayed true to.."70s fil-making" more or less, even in post. The only real CGI in entire film are the plane-take offs with Iran in background in final scenes.
>because you can mop up a lot more in post when filmed on digital
I'm pretty sure that leads to sloppiness eventually and more importantly, it just straight up kills color.
As for Argo, I guess I'll see it eventually but I'm backlogged with 90s flicks.
Hmm yeah Argo looked like some bland adult contemporary uninspired lifeless garbage... Well the visuals did from the previews I saw. I'll probably never watch it
well, buy it soon since everyone now needs the money.
i think i'll take the Academy's judgement and the best pic Oscar over your opinion, but thanks for the thoughts.
I live in LA, what’s the best way to get a not completely dog shit job in the biz?
Ty
>buy
That's a good one
Furthermore, Argo is not really recent (speaking of your experience, not my reasons for not watching it).
While we are on the subject of things that have gone to shit, what the fuck happened to dialogue? Are the writers who striked in 2008 gone with no replacement? Or is it just Chink pandering?
Sure buddy. I don't begrudge you for the hard work you and the rest of the crew put in but man... For all that effort the the result is so bland and somehow derivative. I just watched a trailer for the movie to be sure. Looks flat and the opposite of dynamic. It is anything but a visual treat if you catch my drift. At best, competently executed.
>Academy's judgement and the best pic Oscar
Fucking Black Panther got nominated. If that doesn't speak volumes of compromised values, what does?
what specifically do you want to do and what are your talents? Don't forget it's still a racket and 99.9% of people who try won't really get rich from it. You have to do it bc you just love the process-- whether it's...writing, makeup, special effects, whatever it is. If and when money comes, it's nice but you'd be better off trying to get into...banking or real estate if you just want a career.
Just about the only people who end up successful are the ones who would rather starve than do anything else.
Here is the baseline
If you could work on any past production of yesteryear, which would it be and why?
That was after the wonderfully talented Mr. Lee and his "#OscarssoWhite campaign when he blackmailed the Academy into flooding itself with minorities who had no business being in.
And you know what? It worked. They fucking were blackmailed and gave him an oscar for his writing (!!!),and he had no shame in taking it. "Argo" won before all that nonsense had begun.
what's the most fucked up/shocking thing you've seen during your time in the industry
Hard one. For me...probably "Godfather 1" even though that's a generic answer. Of course, the real answer would be Howard Hughes' "Hell's Angels" since everything about the production of it is legendary.
I never saw it as in firsthand, but the entire Weinstein thing is much, much deeper than has been revealed and most of the actresses he was fucking have never come forward since fucking "The Pig" did make their careers. i won't give names but the list is much longer than the few b listers who have actually come out. I mean, selma hayek isn't a b Lister and is now also married to one of the richest men in the world but...let's just sat every beautiful actress who worked in one of his films...just assume it.
When the actors show up to set, do they use their own shoes or are there shoes that are provided?
Do actor's get to keep their film set chairs?
Then there is The Artist which is basically just a gimmick movie, 12 Years a Slave right after Argo, Crash, fucking Shakespeare in Love and the list goes on. It's true that as you go back, the Oscars are atleast half-decent movies but a genuine seal of quality they ain't.
How come Spacey wasn't done in?
Marvel is by far the worst for chink pandering, with special chink editions where the ending involves the "ppeople's liberation army" coming in at the end to save everyone. Complain about DC but at least they aren't whores at that level.
What happened to writing? there is still good writing but for big prductions, far , far more risk averse, producers making one movie, director making another, writers making a 3rd. And the deiding factor si of course always the producers and the bottom line in the end.
Independent film is basically dead. Oh, and just wait until you see the new james bond if you want to complain about "Argo," they were forced to bring in that talentless slut Pheobe...whatever to cater to the Pc crowd.
If you have amazon prime, do an expieriment. If you can get through that show, watch a few episodes. since she's so ugly and insecure, she won't allow any girl prettier than she is in ANY of her stupid fucking show, where she plays the basically what she is--- a talentless low-rent whore.
Which actors tend to keep their breath minty? Which actors have dad-breath?
>Do actor's get to keep their film set chairs?
i mean, they could if they wanted to keep it but I've never known of one who did take it. No one is going to tell an A-list he can't have a chair.
not an actor so have never kissed one on set, but there are always mints and all kinds of mouthwash on sets for those who want them.
I have did sidereal work related to film as I know a minor stunt man who does weapons and props and has some chairs and backs. A real star can take the whole chair if they want but who wants 10 chairs sometimes they give them to friends or they take the back piece that can be put on most chairs of that style
Sometimes you can tell from talking to someone or being near then when they talk what their breath is like.
what do you mean, spacey was done in. to such an extent they fucking reshoot all his scenes in "all The Money In The World." Why not soooner? no one wants to bust a homoseuxual the way they want to bust men with females.
Middling stars and desperate nobodies might bring their own chair or back
What's the highest chair budget for a film you've worked on?
Not nearly as Weinstein as his lawsuit was dropped.
>special chink editions where the ending involves the "ppeople's liberation army" coming in at the end to save everyone
Seriously? Got a webm?
>if you want to complain about Argo
I don't, I'm just not getting my hopes up
>If you have amazon prime
I haven't paid for a movie since...Desolation of Smaug I guess
If you're making a movie with a $100 mill budget, the director isn't going to stop and tell the actor he has bad breath. i'm sure there are female divas who have complained about male breath, but most have the good sense to use mints before anything involving close contact so as not to cause offense.
Argo fuck yourself
