Atheists are congregating and organizing in ways very similar to a religion. You could call it a political movement, but it appears to be filling the void religon had for some people. I remember when I was an edgy middle school atheist who watched George Carlin videos. As you mature, even if you are secular, you usually come to recognize and appreciate the role religon plays in society. On net it's postive, and from an evolutionary and sociological viewpoint religon makes some sense.

Before the discovery of the big bang, atheists believed that everything was just always here.
I could see that making sense, because if everything has always been here, then this is just what existence is.
Since the discovery of the big bang, it has been established there was a beginning.
Atheists could no longer say everything has just always been here and always will be here.
So now atheists are tasked with coming up with an idea how matter can come from nothing.
Matter cannot be created or destroyed according to the law of conservation of mass. (equivalent exchange for FMA fans).
Atheists have to suspend the law of "something can't come from nothing", to be like "except for that one time".
I just think it makes more sense to believe in something supernatural or outside the universe that is not held to the same natural laws.
So you can't be like "well if God can come from nothing, why can't the universe come from nothing".
The difference would be that the universe is natural and is held to natural laws, but God is supernatural so we cannot apply the same logic of what we understand existence to be.
Am I making sense or am I way off baseline?

Why not? What is wrong with God being his own person and having his own expectations for his creation? The problem with it being a force or the universe is that, like everything else, is affected by time. Everything affected by time has a beginning and an end. That would not be a God.
