What the actual fuck was Ridley thinking?
What the actual fuck was Ridley thinking?
>let's go to Aus for the kino visuals of Covenant
I enjoyed both of these movies and I'm not afraid to say it
called being senile.
boomer whites with their western diet destroys the mind. see the president.
Scott went senile long ago, he's only made shitty movies for years
So sick of every alien planet in sci fi movies these days being fucking New Zealand or some other picturesque earthly biome.
first movie was a fluke using some perverts gay art
For some reason he thought he needed to make some deep, philosophical sequels and just ended up over-complicating what was originally a very simple series of movies.
The only good thing about those movies is how bad they trigger cameronfags about muh xenomorph canon
they were great
id say prometheus is better
>I know what the people really want and I'm gonna give it to them!
Same. Also Aliens is overrated and tonally is basic action 80's blockbuster, and Alien 3 director's cut is kino
Fight me.
They're both shit but at least Prometheus sticks to one basic idea/theme, whereas Covenant tries to be like 8 different movies and fails at all of them.
The original xenomorph was entirely too big to come from the engineer.
I agree.
Didn't care that much for either on the 1st viewings because I expected an alien movie. 2nd viewings i just watched them as science fiction films set in the alien universe and it made them both better, also david vs walter is kino. The 4k's look amazing too.
Good movies when you appreciate that they are about robots and not about aliens
That whole giant rolling saucer bit in Prometheus will never not be funny. I truly do wonder why they thought that was OK.
Prometheus was pretty kino. Convent was just a cheap looking CGI fest.
Same with the biologist wanting to play with an alien like a puppy.
Prometheus was so bad it ruined all other movies. I can't watch anything now without being super critical about every character's actions.
>Prometheus was so bad
prometheus was actually pretty good, very nuanced. But retards focused on the wrong things.
>prometheus was actually pretty good, very nuanced.
Go into detail on why you have this opinion
I already have 10 years ago or whenever it came out, but pretty much it boils down to what the movie implies rather than what it outright says. I hate saying this, but it expected too much from its audience. That being said, the movie is very simple and straightforward. May not be what people expected or wanted, but if it wasn't tied to Alien, it probably wouldn't be trashed
I could have respected them a bit better if it wasn't for the whole dumb as shit protocol violating scientists. Also xenos are because black goo mutagen? So basically they are ripping fucking ninja turtles off?
Probably "I want to make some Moebiuskino" as both of these films seem to borrow very heavily from his and other Eurocomic sci-fi.
Unfortunately Ridley had the misfortune of the worst modern Hollywood has to offer for his scriptwriters and everything fell apart from there.
trolling gone too far
>We want the Marvel audience
Ridley gets way, way, way too much credit for Alien. He's always been a director in the simplest sense of the word. He just pieces together other peoples work. Which is what a basic director should do, but he never seems to quality check if said pieces all work together so his good films are flukes. He's create with locations and making a nice looking film, but that doesn't mean shit with bad scripts. He was lucky with Alien. There were talented writers, actors, effects artists and sound people all involved on that.
>Prometheus as a stand alone film
Decent
>Prometheus as a prequel to Alien
Fucking abysmal nonsense that introduces silly fantasy shit into a well grounded adult sci-fi series.
He thought the moviegoing public was smarter than they actually are.
Making good movies.
He wasn't.
>Alien:
>Screenplay by Dan O'Bannon. Story by
Dan O'Bannon
>Alien 2:
>Screenplay by James Cameron. Story by
James Cameron, David Giler and Walter Hill.
Are we starting to see a pattern?
>Prometheus
>Written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelöf.
>Alien: Covenant
>Screenplay by John Logan and Dante Harper.
>Story by Jack Paglen and Michael Green.
Ridley is just a director. Must be a real senile fool to nod and basically greenlight the last two. Fact is, most of the problems with movies are due to the WRITERS. If you don't have good WRITERS, you have a shitty story and that makes for a shitty movie out of the gate.
Copy and paste screwed up muh greentext, but you get the idea...
the deleted scene of him picking up smaller snake aliens earlier in the film should have been left in, at least it tried to show that those worm things were not hostile till the goo
I still defend Prometheus I think it had a lot going for it. Covenant was retarded though except for the David stuff and the visuals were good.
>What the actual fuck was Ridley thinking?
Still made more money than Flop Runner 2049
I completely agree. A truly great director can work around or even improve upon a subpar script, but truly great directors are a rarity. Writing is a vastly underestimated component of filmmaking.
Hi damon.
>and tonally is basic action 80's blockbuster
Without the camp or stupid. It's much more intense then say Commando or Rambo.
Read the shooting script. It explains that the crew was picked by Vickers because she wanted the mission to fail. The captain actually confronts her about how confusing the two that get stuck in the pyramid are and she admits it to them.
The rest of the script is good and fills in a lot of blanks, which tells me Ridley did very poor editing on the film
lmao white people
> Alien = Terminator 2
Strongly Great to Amazing
> The Terminator = Predator = Predator 2 = Predators
Various levels of fully Great (pred 2 would be equal with the first if some cringy stuff with Paxton and Mca near the start was removed and the stereotypes toned down)
> Aliens
Very Good to Great
> Terminator Salvation
Very Good
> Prometheus
Very Good
> Terminator 3
Good
> Alien 3
Good
> AVP
Good
> AVPR
Decent (would be good if the lighting was better)
> Alien Resurrection
Poor to Weak to Ok/Meh
> Alien Covenant = The Predator = Terminator Genesis = Terminator Dark Fate
Have not seen
That’s the problem, though - it *is* tied to Alien. No one ever had any illusions otherwise. If you wrote a “great” stand-alone script that ties in poorly to a pre-existent film, you don’t get to lay claim to how “hypothetically” awesome it was, only that your script doesn’t fit well, and is, therefore, a bad script.
Why is Resurrection, AvP, T3, TS, TG, TDF even considered in this like they're canon?
>Without the camp or stupid.
Did we watch the same Aliens?
Money.
Alien>Aliens>Prometheus>Covenant>Alien3>nothing else worth mentioning
I was rating the entire franchise.
Apparently not. Aliens is entirely dead serious aside from a handful of fun lines by the grunts. And it's absolutely not stupid.
>>Screenplay by Dan O'Bannon. Story by
>Dan O'Bannon
My ass. Alien is one of the most heavily executive-influenced movies. You just don't know it because it wasn't ruined by meddling, but rather improved. Walter Hill, who produced, rewrote the entire script and changed most of the names and added Ash as the surprise antagonist, of which the reveal was almost as great as the xeno birth itself.
Also Bannon was pretty butthurt that people were touching his stuff, but even he admitted that that shit was genius.
Yeah, aliens is shit
Hi damon.
>I want the mission to fail, so I’ll pick people with just the right mix of credentials and inexplicable mental retardation to fail this mission. Incidentally, I’m on this mission, so I’m actively choosing to put my life in the hands of retards because reasons.
You’re a shit writer, Lindelof.
Reminder that this is what the alien looked like before Dan O'Bannon's design got replaced with the HR Giger one.
What's the excuse for the absolutely retarded "Engineers" fantasy bullshit story then?
I wish they had stuck with that design so we would have never had to deal with prometheus.
Hahaha, le God.
AVP is very good, a step above Prometheus
same with blade runner
>but if it wasn't tied to Alien, it probably wouldn't be trashed
It wouldn't be even remembered after a week, kinda like Life. Except, of course, for your kind pretending it has some sort of deep meaning and shit.
>added Ash as the surprise antagonist, of which the reveal was almost as great as the xeno birth itself
can confirm that as a child, the ash situation was much scarier to me than the xeno
