I think he genuinely just doesn't care. If you watch his old home movies, everyone's acting exactly like characters in his movies do. And his movies are classic of the genre, while The Sopranos is "just" a TV show. I can see why he wouldn't be interested in the different world that The Sopranos portrays.

It's like people who watch the first episode and immediately starts bashing the series. They fail to understand it came from an era where having a pilot was a big thing. And they changed the tony a lot. Or I don't know they just can't see how fucking funny this series is, like the subtle jokes that actually make you laugh instead of the forced shit we see a lot now.
