Can we get another 1990-2004 underrated-almost-forgotten kino thread?
It's a very subtle genre I've been trying to define these days while hiding from corona. Some of the requirements are:
- Not very high budget but not low budget either - Must have one or more A or B+ list stars (at the time) - It's not a cult classic, critically acclaimed or widely known (e.g. Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption) - It was probably a box office bomb - It has to be a drama or thriller - It uses natural looking cinematography, nothing experimental - Most people have probably never heard the name of the director
I'll start posting some that I consider meet the requirements and also I'm bored so I don't even care if I don't get replies and will keep bumping
>nearly empty theater that was Lake Placid for me, there were probably like 4 other people in there
Hudson Lee
The scene where Michael Keaton flicks the razor blade between his fingers like a coin always stuck with me. Overall a pretty solid film too.
Justin Wood
This one is difficult to post because the biggest star in it is Penelope Ann Miller who nobody really knows how she got there. But it is also severely underrated. This movie is basically Resident Evil or Parasite Eve in movie form.
I have the theory that the reason they stopped making these movies is because from the mid 2000s on they started focusing on making TV shows, which were cheaper, much longer and profitable.
Josiah Miller
Art of War for me. Literally no one else in the cinema... and I got the ticket on a free coupon.
I also did like Virus, even though it is a bad film. Having Cliff Curtis play basically the same character in Virus and then Deep Rising was amusing.
Nicholas Morales
I wonder if Christopher Lambert's entire 90s career could fit in here.
Thank you user, completely forgot about this movie.
Jace Murphy
John Dahl's movies fit the bill >Kill Me Again >Red Rock West >The Last Seduction >Joy Ride
Isaiah Lopez
Even modern movies shot on film have a digital look that pre-2000 movies don't have. Probably because of the increase of post-production tools on computer
Juan Cox
really underrated director. all of those are great. the last seduction is one of the best movies of the 90s imo.
Kayden Clark
not in the time frame but still pretty good thriller with bunch of twists.
