Finally Watched for the 1st Time

The movie is incredible, but just as pretentious. During the Third Impact, I found myself watching, mouth agape, tears rolling down my faggot face.

How can one movie be so great and so bad at the same time? So much of it was pretentious, meaningless, and made no sense. And yet somehow I'm finding myself putting it in my Top 10 movies of all time.

What does everyone else think of this movie?

Nice addition to the show.

Because it’s sincere. It comes from an honest place in the creator.

Also nothing was meaningless or “didn’t make sense” there are answers for virtually any point of confusion

>just now watching eva

I haven't even seen the show it's "End"-ing and I'd probably place it in my top 20.

this is literally have sex the show

this

Congratulations

it's awful. I liked the series a lot, but this was was just pretentious garbage.

It's a well made show that comes from the heart.

>anything piece of media makes me use my brain or actually feel anything is pretentious

???

If you liked it, you liked it. How could you call something pretentious if it moved you to tears? Just because it didn't immediately make sense to you doesn't make it pretentious or meaningless. And if it moved you that much, then I think it did make sense, it did mean something. Everything you experienced watching it meant something.

>Overcome your lifelong depression and finally decide life is worth living after all
>Give everyone the power will themselves out of instrumentality when they come to the same conclusion
>Will yourself back to life ready to make new friends and have your heart broken.
>Not a single other person follows you out
>Not Misato
>Not your best friends from school
>Not even fucking Pen-pen
>Nobody
>Except Asuka
I love the abject pessimism of the ending.

What exactly about it is pretentious?

I've had Komm Susser Tod stuck in my head ever since this quarantine stuff started.

It all returns to nothing ...

Why do i always see retards doing this
I can't imagine how ruined that movie would be for me without seeing the show

not to mention the planet looked fucked beyond repair

I don't know how anyone can be emotionally invested in this film or even watch it at all without having watched the series

The anti-Kurtzman

>pretentious

there is virtually nothing pretentious or meaninglessly symbolic about end of evangelion. It is all incredibly straightforward. Its simply a kino overload that forces brainlets to think its assuming more depth than is actually there. Anno means it like it is, how it sounds, how it looks.

I never thought of it this way. He finally chooses life but then life rejects him and prefers to stay as orange tang. Asuka returns just to gloat.

it is beautiful in a way though, humanity embracing the ultimate breaking down of barriers between people and existing as one flowing mass

Congratulations.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

It's anime Fantasia. A spectacle of incredible visuals set to music. People get too caught up trying to attribute meaning to it and end up thinking it's pretentious but really it's just a blast to the senses and the meaning doesn't matter.

>A spectacle of incredible visuals set to music.
That sounds pretentious.

I don't see how. Can you elaborate?

its a better visualised ending to the series than the actual ending was and finishes the character arc of shinji in a satifsying manner. worth a watch if you have seen the show.

Is the show still pretentious even if Anno, himself, admitted that he just liked 'it' because it was cool?

why not? It makes a LOT more sense to first see the show and immediately afterwards turn on EoE. Granted, I first saw both the show and EoE like two or three years ago because I always avoided NGE but just watching EoE is like settling for the vanilla approach while you can get not only coconut but also enhanced-vanilla if you see both

It makes sense.
Quick rundown:

SEELE wants to unite all souls to one and make themselves as Gods.
Gendo wants to reunite with his wife, Yui, using Rei's help.
Rei has rejected Gendo because she sees through him, and instead seeks to find herself.
Shinji is borderline suicidal, and doesn't want to do anything.

SEELE and NERV are in open conflict because Gendo won't obey, and SEELE has the upper hand.

These are the major players as it would turn out in the EVA story.

SEELE invades, and seizes the opportunity to start Third Impact right then and there. They plan to use EVA01 (Copy of a God), the MP-Series (also copies of a God), and Shinji, who's suicidal mindset is what they'll use as a catalyst to end all lives on the planet and take their souls.
SEELE commences the ritual, and the end of the world has begun, effectively.
Gendo is looking to hitch a ride on this to get to Yui using Rei's help. Rei however, senses Shinji's pain, and only takes Adam into herself, and leaves Gendo for dead.

Rei enters her original body, Lilith, and seeks to help Shinji. Rei does this by assimilating the MP-series, so that Rei effectively becomes one half of the Third Impact engine, while Shinji is the other.
Too little too late, and the entirety of mankind is reduced to nothing but their souls, and are absorbed into the third impact medium, which has become Rei.

From hereon out, Rei and Shinji talk, and Rei is eventually able to convince Shinji that what he does is merely escapism (a theme in the show), and as such Shinji is able to conclude that this new world is void and empty without the interactions of others, even if painful.

The ritual is undone, and all souls are released, and will eventually find themselves in human form again.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but if you actually believe that the whole movie went over your head

It's not pessimism, it's acceptance.
Shinji accepts that he is going to carry the weight of life and the film ends with Asuka being disgusted by his previous actions. It would be a total copout and betrayal of the show's message if he ended up being forgiven in the end. Shinji doesnt get a free pass for basically raping Asuka and she thinks he's pathetic, but Shinji has taken responsibility and isn't running away anymore.

>basically raping Asuka
Not sure if trolling or just roastie.

>trying to explain an ambiguous film
>getting the few objective facts wrong
>The ritual is undone, and all souls are released, and will eventually find themselves in human form again.
They had the choice whether to stay in the collective consciousness or return to their bodies.

I understand the plot but it's not important at all and if you care about the 'meaning' of the film at all then I would argue that the film went over your head.

Intelligent and thought provoking response ya seething virgin.

Nah bro. You got it wrong. I'm sorry.

They don't. Shinji makes the choice for everyone, since he's what's holding it all together.
People can't chose to stay because there's nowhere left to stay. They're free souls. All they can do is to return to human form from that state.

The whole "collective consciousness" is over by that time.

You just didn't get it.

The plot is important, as it makes the basis for the interpretation. See

>free souls
>resticted to one option
You don't know the meanings of the words you speak, ya dumb retard

Now you're just being dumb and pedantic. They would also have technically have two options:

Not reform themselves
Reform themselves

They're "free" as in they're just drifting aimlessly and not being bound within the instrumentality construct.

Fucking brainlet, the're out of the whole soul jar SEELE made. That's what made them free. It's not fucking hard to get, SEELE enacts ritual to force all souls into one, and Rei and Shinji undoes it.
That's why you see all the souls come bursting out, falling down to earth.

it is literally said outright in the film that anyone who wants to come back can come back.
you are arguing against the overt text of the film, and are therefore a headcanoning brainlet.

>ya seething virgin
LOL. TITS or GTFO!

Stop projecting. You're not even right about what they said.
They said more something along the lines of "anyone who can imagine themselves in their heart, can return to human form".
Basically what happened to Shinji in episode 19, where he has to see himself so he can return out of the tanged state.

Evangelion really, really isn't hard to get, the problem is just speedwatchers like you.

>it is literally said outright in the film that anyone who wants to come back can come back.
Which supports >The ritual is undone, and all souls are released, and will eventually find themselves in human form again.
You have to will yourself back.

You're the one arguing against what literally happened. You're stuck on a detail that's fucking obviously wrong too. The collective consciousness gone. That's what Shinji did. He was the one holding it all together, which is what the movie built up to. Once he lets go, the whole thinig literally explodes and you see SOULS flying out of there.
The collective consciousness is OVER. Everyone's "free" insofar they're no longer trapped inside instrumentality. If they can find the will to reform themselves, they will.

>anyone who can imagine themselves in their heart, can return to human form"
Yes, and the people who can't, will not.
I'm glad we reached the same page.
>If they can find the will to reform themselves, they will.
And those who cannot find the will to reform themselves, will not be reformed.
How hard is this to understand? But I'm glad you've finally figured it out.

it's Anno confronting weebs with the opening scene, followed by a brutal retelling of the last 2 episode of NGE with a better budget.

Just admit you were wrong about the collective consciousness.
The rest you're on the same page on, and always were until you misunderstood.

In other words; you've dropped the argument you were wrong about (instrumentality). Good. We're done. Happy to have helped.

>muh anti-escapism argument
It was Shinji crying out for connection and power over his own situation yet being unwilling to do anything about it, not le epic weeb own

What is the state of those who have not yet decided to return to physical form? They are in the sea of LCL.... all mixed together.... a collective. What if they decide not to? What if they take a really long time to decide? They will just be hanging out in the collective indefinitely.
Nice headcanon.

low iq

Congratulations! Congratulations! Omedetou

What you just had is a genuine moment of disliking something, while at the same time being unable to deny its artistic integrity
This is called being immersed in a artistic. You have achieved the first level of kino, and must spend 6-8 years being an obnixious geek with obscure taste in entertainment while your mental taste buds develop. You go, fella!

Its cringe

You didn't get eva buddy. Sorry.

Nice headcanon.

They're not in the Sea of LCL. See the pic in the red dots are the souls floating out.

>Also nothing was meaningless or “didn’t make sense” there are answers for virtually any point of confusion
if you accept fan theories as fact, sure

>retelling of the last 2 episode of NGE
wrong faggot
they're alternate endings

Retards who throw that word around can never answer that question.
