And at that point you're just re-manufacturing an original. Interesting. I personally find Rolex's business model of relying on artificial scarcity and cutting costs on hand-finish to the max absolutely disgusting. A lot of companies like Orient will put MSRP at up to 4X the actual going price to try and catch the "durr, higher price means higher quality" crowd. Go on watch forums to get in contact with REPUTABLE distributors that charge actual prices and not MSRP.

Whatever gripes you have about Rolex, literally every other company is 1000x worse. Rolex has never had the insane hand finishing like haute horlogerie companies have, they were historically an extremely well made and sturdy line of tool watches for regular use, whether it was a Submariner, a GMT-Master, or a Day-Date. WHereas most other companies are complete shells of what they were prior to the quartz crisis, Rolex actually kept their historical quality and still makes watches incredibly well with one of the most heavily funded factories in the world (Rolex isn't a normal business as it's 100% owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, so all profits get reinvested back in the company or go to charitable causes).
