Aguirre was a Peruvian film.
If it were shot with a majority Peruvian cast speaking local dialects, yes. :)
Are we going to see even less kinos in 2020 due to the virus? May take longer than usual for festival favorites to make the rounds
ridiculous. what about apocalypto and passion of the christ.
I consider it a German film, we can't make movies that good.
Ancient Hebrews don't exist and Aramaic isn't a common parlance so it isn't the same thing.
I know it's not arthouse but just watched pic related and god damn did you pull my heartstrings. I want more loneliness kino.
What films to watch out for in 2020?
Idk. Check out the Berlin festival list. Also Wolfwalkers
>Memoria (Weerasethakul)
>The Nest (Durkin)
>Benedetta (Verhoeven)
>Annette (Carax)
>Days (Tsai Ming Liang) - already online
>Blonde (Dominik)
>The Devil All the Time (Campos)
>Mank (Fincher)
>After Yang (Kogonada)
>Prisoners of Ghostland (Sono)

Other films that may come out in 2020 but 2021 is more probable

someone post a guide of Yas Forums approved international kino
Arthouse movie stream

You'll need to be more specific. There's a lot.
Have you seen other Tsai films?
the actor, the director, the poet, the fashion model, motorcycle racer, legend, and the owner of your soul. Yes ,Vincent Gallo. Me.
here are things I can recommend from what I've seen
I saw this since somebody has the need to mention it in every other thread. Staggering achievement, the way it's shot is magnificent. It's also quite emotionally draining. The plot was a bit confusing but it's an amazing film. What's /film/'s opinion on this?
I like it but it's one of those long depressing films I don't want to rewatch.
Why would you seek out Yas Forums approved cinema
It's great, but it's definitely overrated.
>“This tale was cobbled together almost at random and hardly merits praise."
If it's great how can it be overrated?
can we please stop misusing the term arthouse to refer to anything that isn't hollywood? you kids sound like fucking retards.
That's the way it's often used. Look at the Janus Essential Arthouse collection. It has Seventh Samurai, Hitchcock, Tati.
Great, not perfect. It's a chaotic movie.
>Suspira 2018
Really? I thought this one sucked. The original is vastly superior in every way
Chaotic in what way? I think it's generally perceived as great.
The opening quote sums it up pretty well
Only God Forgives is my favourite of all time. I have never had a film resonate with me as much as that. Julian's relationship with his mom (minus the incestual undertones), impotent defiance against God only to seek His mercy at the end, sexual repression because my faith won't allow me.to be intimate with girls unless wifed her up, walking down dark hallways which I always imagined for some reason, being a social autist with long periods of silence and staring while not being a neet; must be ~90% resonance.
I have the feeling your being sarcastic but that movie's pretty damn good. But for me my favorite Refn is The Neon Demon. His action movies are good but I think his style is perfectly attuned for a movie about the fashion world.
I was being 100% srs desu, though i can see why you'd think it's satire.
How similar is the 'feel' of Neon Demon to OGF?
unless they are already in postproduction, dont expect many movies out this year
or next year
maybe this is the year for Chris Maker kind of movies
I mean, what else is possible to make?
All of them except for Eggers and PTA are in post or completed.
Dreyer theatrical
That's one ugly poster.
Lot of entry level crap on this list, anonymous. Watch more films.
>ENTRY LEVEL = BAD
i hate fags like you
The guy asked for good international movies. He wants better answers, he specifies what he is looking for.
making your original assertion completely ridiculous because your rule doesnt seem right for all situations. awful awful. reassess your life.
you are a very superficial person. "only in it for the money" so to speak.
Damn she's lovely
So I just watched Letters from a Dead Man and I wonder why isn't there a high quality rip of the film. Is it something to do with rights or is the movie just not that popular?
i am consistently surprised by how accessible a lot of the arthouse classics turn out to be once you get over the alternative style.
i just saw the seventh seal yesterday and the story is consistently engaging, the clown troupe, the knight with a crisis of faith, the cucked blacksmith, they were are endearing.
also death chopping down a tree is hilarious.
i found it interesting how its rumiations on life, death and wheather there is an afterlife or not had probably more impact back in the 50's rather than today with a more cynical world where more and more people are becoming atheists and so it is actually the standard view that there is nothing after death.
Bergman is one of the most accessible revered non American filmmakers.
fucking fags like you who don't actually give a shit about film and just watch arthouse so that you can feel better than "entry level" are worse than simple plebs. Putting down a film because it's "entry level" is even more of a meme criticism than some normalfag saying it's "slow", "boring", or "weird".
Calm yourself, ladies. I know we all have to start somewhere but user's recs, while containing some fine films, is the kind of stuff you could find in many other threads here. It's a "babies first foreign film list". Usually this thread aspires to more than that.
You said "entry level crap" implying those highly acclaimed films are crap solely because they are well-known. Kill yourself pretentious hipster fag.
>Usually this thread aspires to more than that.
Yes, Bresson Dreyer arguments, Von Trier and Safdies being the most innovative filmmakers today etc. Loads of high brow opinions.
i didn't like paprika and am surprised by the hype it gets. yuasa's night is short felt like a better delivery on the same themes.
>many threads here
like which?
>this thread aspires to more than that.
According to who? You? This is a containment thread for general film discussion not a Karagarga forum.
Nah, I don't care for pretentious shit for the sake of it. But y'know, for instance that user could go watch more Korean movies than just what Bong has directed.
i didn't like paprika either. i thought it was too repetitive, especially for its ambitious concept. i prefer perfect blue and millenium actress (i really didn't like magnetic rose if it counts) but lately i've felt kon to be a bit childish? i don't mean playful but dumb
did you watch yuasa's lu over the wall? or penguin highway that came out a year later and won an award named after kon?
Korean films are lowbrow cinema of the highest order. Worthless.
Pleb opinion. Korean cinema 1998-2010 is great. It's only the last 10 years it went to trash. Even then it's still probably better than every other country in East Asia right now.
Name some films from that period that you think are great.
>How similar is the 'feel' of Neon Demon to OGF?
Not at all. They're very different movies. Seems like even most Refn fans don't enjoy it. But I love it, it perfectly captures the glamour and profound vapidity of the fashion world
Why is your cutoff point 1998? There is ton of cinema in Korea that is interesting before 1998.
What are the best biblical films? Bonus points for new testament kino.
Webm related didn't do it for me. The crucifixion scene was very well handled but the rest of the movie was completely sloppy.
Why is thecriterionchannel player so awful, lads?
Because you should be pirating
i'm not a huge consumer of japanese animated films, so i can't really rap about kon. of penguin and lu over the wall which do you recommend more?
it came out in 2012, but if you like gangster films nameless gangster's good
