Stargate or Battlestar Galactica

Since The quarantine shit is going on, which show should I watch? I watched both movies for each series. Which one is better and entertaining?

Motherfucker this quarantine is lasting for months, you can watch both.

SG-1 is max comfy, quite a bit different from the movie though

I prefer sg, bust bsg has the best space battles if relevant.

sg is better for longer

But it has 200 episodes. Also, I watched X Files mytharc and stopped at breath from season 2,is the series worth watching? Should I continue?

bsg takes itself seriously and doesn't live up to the dramatic atmosphere it tries to establish, sg-1 has filler episodes but is an enjoyable watch, not much in terms of lore or hard sci fi, but its paced consistently and has a sense of self awareness without going too over the top that keeps the writing from being too unbearable

star gate battlestar like most shows focused on drama and tension doesnt really pay off its got its heights but stargates more enjoyable

yeah

bsg will build up your expectations and disappoint you, sg1 doesn't promise a lot and then overdelivers on that

sg1 starts as an episodic tv series where you can watch them out of order and it doesn't matter that much, then all of a sudden the writers start remembering continuity and have little in references but dont' hit you over the head with it, well paced world building

Stargate SG1 is great. I watch it randomly when I need to calm down and get my mind off stuff.

Teal'c is the best Designated Sci Fi Black Man in the genre, imo

BSG is easier to marathon, but you'll obviously be done with it in a few weeks
SG-1 you can just watch a few episodes from and comeback whenever you like
desu I find SG-1 a bit too formulaic, after seeing a few episodes you can usually tell exactly where the episode is going and how it'll end a few minutes in. Still the character interaction and all of that is a good reason to keep watching regardless

there are definitely episodes that feel like they go on too long

plenty of good ones to balance it out compared to bsg turning into total dogshit the last 2 seasons

For me? It's Babylon 5.

Agreed.

BSG. Space battles are so much better. I'd skip preachy Baltar and whiny starbuck scenes in later seasons though.

They are both great. BSG has best space battles and an interesting story that actually keeps you engaged. The setting is great.
Stargate is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's a great show to spend days and weeks on. It really helps to escape the miserable real world.

SG-1

BSG has nigger-tier shaky cam for literally zero reason.
>Hey guys this CGI space battle is cool and all but add random shaking and zooming in
Unwatchable shit.

Stargate SG1 is one of the best tv series of all time let alone just sci fi series. It's surprising how well the CGI holds up too considering the early seasons are 20+ years old now

Battlestar Galactica isn't even worth watching

Battlestar is great, but it's doom and gloom

Stargate is fun, watch Stargate instead, and there's a lot more of it.

Stargate is more similar to Star Trek.

BSG is like a military political drama.

With BSG the metaplot is ultimately unsatisfying, you wait 4 seasons for stuff to be explained and then it's "huh, yeah I guess".

However the characters and their interactions are constantly great. Everyone of the main characters is very well cast. Characters have arcs where stuff happens to them and they change, you can go from hating a character to loving him to hating him again. Nobody is flanderized, everyone has depth.

The CGI and decorations were great when it came out, dunno if that holds up to this day but it has a certain style most definitely.

Worf vs. Teal'c Sunday Sunday Sunday

>Stargate SG1 is one of the best tv series of all time let alone just sci fi series.
This

1980s MacGyver

Also it's distinctly post 9-11 in its themes. This might have gotten old since then, haven't watched it in a while.

>20+ years old now
mother of christ, why do we keep getting so old bros

There are 214 episodes of SG-1. That's 214 "tv hours" (appx.48mins)
There's also 2 direct to DVD movies. Ark of Truth has a run time of 102mins and Continuum has a run time of 98mins.
Plus the original movie. It's just over 2hrs long.
If you add in Atlantis and Universe, that's another 140 episodes/140 "tv hours"
All totaled that's 3 movies and 354 episodes, which is 17,313mins or just over 288 and half hours. That's just over 12 days.

So if you watch the entire franchise (minus Infinity and Origins) non stop, it will take you 12 fucking days.

>CGI holds up

I would agree until that fucking episode with the dragon

BSG wrote themselves into a corner. That's what you get when you don't plan for anything.

Yeah but that can be excused as the dragon is just a hologram.

OP here, just watched SG1 episode 1 and holy shit... It was kino. But how much nudity will there be in the show? Don't get me wrong, those tits were kino but my pepe doesn't need to get hard, I'm nofap now. Also, holy shit, the black guy is based as fuck

that looked bad at the the time tbqh

That's the only time I can remember until SG universe then there might have been some tits or atleast large boobs

None.
It was only in the pilot because Showtime demanded it.
Years later the producers released a special edition version of the pilot that had cleaned up footage, new CGI, new ADR for Teal'c and removed all the nudity.

Large tits under a tight t-shirt.

>It was kino
The entire show is ludo kino to be honest.

shaky cam is used to great effect in BSG, it's one of the reasons the CGI in the space battles look so good

IS HE /OURGUY/?

The BSG "movie" is basically the series. If you liked the movie, you'll like the series until it goes off the rails.

SG-1 has eight pretty good seasons, some being god-tier and others lesser, before going to SyFy original movie schlock in 8-10. Very little resemblance to the movie aside from the basic stargate stuff.

Kino

Happy you liked it man. No more nudity outside of occasional nipples through clothing from Carter iirc. So jealous you get to watch the show fresh. What I wouldn't give. Btw this may be a contrarian opinion but Stargate Atlantis and Universe aren't worth watching. Just stick with SG1 and the two movies Ark or Truth and Continuum. Enjoy

>should i watch the best show ever made or some generic scifi borefest

BSG is kino indeed.

You mean garbage.

Babylon 5.

As someone who loves both shows and watched them probably over 5x in full already.. I can't decide. They're both great in their own right.

If you like character driven deep space opera, go BSG.

If you prefer monster of the week with a hopeful cast of charming protagonists, pick SG:1

Is it good?

>after seeing a few episodes you can usually tell exactly where the episode is going and how it'll end a few minutes in.
the "last time" segments also spoils things as well because you know what is going to be involved in the plot.

On this note, also try and watch Buffy & Angel if you finish these shows and the quarantine is still ongoing.

Indeed.

Yes, it goes a bit pants on head retarded towards the end but it still takes more time than battlestar galactica which entire series gets invalidated in the last season because the writers didn't know how to get out of the situation.

>battlestar galactica which entire series gets invalidated in the last season because the writers didn't know how to get out of the situation.
they wrote themselves into a corner with that cylon dead earth shit.

First season is a bit iffy thought, there are some sub par episodes coming up

I think Star Trek series are more comfy

SG-1 for sure, not saying that BSG is bad but I'd much rather watch exploration kino than drama

based retard

SG-1 is so fucking overrated by its fans. It really was nothing that special.

Is it back on Prime yet? Had just gotten to the season two finale when it vanished.

>The absolute state of tveddit

BSG easily.

Stargate Universe had a lot of potential and a shame it got canceled.
