Westworld

4 episodes in. so basically this guy is going around intentionally knocking hosts off their storylines and hoping their improvised actions tell him something about a secret level? and the black chick is starting to remember her past lives and is self aware?

Quit now before you waste any more time on a shit show.

fpbp was coming to tell you this, it feels good like its going somewhere for most of season 1, but your going to have a bad time

Both of these people are telling you the truth. Stop now. Either rewatch True detective season one or the entirety of Leftovers.

You're right about maeve, wrong about everything else

Finish S1 and stop there.

S2 turns the pesud shit up to 11 and the writers thought keeping the plot imcomprehensible by showing you literally everything out of order somehow made it deep.

S3 isn't even the same show.

this

Yeah he's actually Jimmi Simpson's character when he's older, it's a big twist at the end of the season, pretty crazy

>all these seething racist incels in the thread who cant understand a good character

Attached: 1571616435466.jpg (536x643, 46.83K)

Season 2 basically took all the bad parts from season 1 and painted the entire season in that shade of contrived bullshit.

She's not even a bad character for any SJW reason.

It's solely because the writers gave her the most low-effort asspull powerup possible to keep her relevant.

It's not like it matterd in the end anyway since she's still confined to WarWorld so her whole arc has contributed nothing.

Might just be that I like Jesse but I'm actually pretty optimistic about Season 3. Its definitely not the same show but I feel after the Season 2 shitshow theyve learned their lesson about the contrived time jump bullshit and are actually telling a somewhat linear story that makes sense now. Plus the future setting/society is pretty fleshed out and interesting to explore

I mean, they haven't shown Maeve yet. We all know the second she shows up everything'll be back in bullshit city.

Yeah they did.

tells you where in the spoiler

He's this fag. There, I just saved you hours and hours of wasted time. Don't even bother with season 2 unless you have some weird fetish for dumbass indians

Yeah it's pretty solid cyberpunk and Jesse's character is good so far. It's basically a televised adaptation of Snow Crash.

>True detective
>One good episode
Westworld is way better

JESSE! is probably one of the worst actors in the history of television. He sounds and looks like he's on some sort of tranquilizer for this shit cash grab of a season.

True. I'm mainly just invested in Jesse and Dolores's story this season. I think they're hinting at an actual conflict between Dolores and Maeve this season in the real world so as long as it gets to that point soon I'll be happy. Plus it seems theyve toned Dolores down a bit so shes more empathetic and less of an edgelord killing every human in sight.

I disagree. His performances are usually understated for sure but he pulls off the "quiet everyman action hero" archetype pretty well. If I had to recast his character in the show I'd probably choose the goose or something but jesse was probably much cheaper and just slightly less talented.

Never heard of Snow Crash before, just googled it and now I'm probably gonna check it out. Thanks dude

Action hero? The dude is just a slightly more successful version of that high school burnout everyone had in their lives at one point. You could replace him with literally any male actor above the age of 20 and the show wouldn't skip a beat.

This show jumps the shark so hard. Everything cool you've seen so far is ultimately meaningless once the show turns into Walking Dead with robots.

>It's basically a televised adaptation of Snow Crash.

except without Hiro Protagonist, without YT and without Raven. and without any of the other characters. and the setting is different, and the premise is different. other than that, it's the same. you etiolated fuck.

Great book but be foreawrned, Neal Stephemson loves his infodumps. There's entire chapters that are written like a dry college textbook on whatever obscure intellectual shit he chooses to sperg out over.

fpbp

This.

Season 1 is 10/10, just fantastic all the way through. Then season 2 drops way, way off. Somehow the show goes from Game of Thrones S1-3 straight to S8 in just two goddamned seasons. It's almost baffling.

>etiolated
Cool thanks for teaching me a new word, it's a rare experience after 37 years.

Its shit, don't bother.

Yeah it's obviously not and exact adaptation and I was being hyperbolic but the world we've seen in S3 is very similar to Snow Crash.

Idk man Season 2 was shit but I think they can really salvage things with Season 3

I really don't. The problem with Season 3 is that even IF the writing picks back up that whole shit who will affect the rest of the story from then on. It's like The Last Jedi. Yes, they COULD make good movies after that, but what it does fundamentally fucks the world up. The only way forward would be to just cut it from cannon rather than work around it. BUT that just creates another problem. Part of why West World S1 felt so good was that it really, really felt like it was going somewhere genuinely interesting, fully planned, and intricately realized. Season 2 proved that none of that was true. That means that ALL of the mysteries in S1 are empty mystery boxes with nothing in them at all.

Basically, Season 2 retroactively ruined Season 1 by shattering the illusion that Season 1 was good.

>Yes, they COULD make good movies after that, but what it does fundamentally fucks the world up. The only way forward would be to just cut it from cannon rather than work around it.

who cares niggers it's just a tv show about evil robots taking over the world.

Finish S1 (some storylines will start to annoy you a little by the end but nothing deal-breaking). Then (and this is key) watch only the William scenes of the first four episodes of Season 2 culminating in The Riddle of the Sphinx (S02E04), which is a great episode and the only good episode of season 2.

DO NOT watch anything else. Be satisfied with the closure you get. You will be tempted to watch further for the Man in Black storyline. Do not under any circumstances do this. You will be told to keep watching for muh based indian episode. It's highly overrated. There is no reason to watch after S02E04.

They blew their load in S1 with the robot uprising, which should have happened at the 3/4 mark of the series run. This happened because Westworld was originally supposed to be a miniseries, not a full series. The (obvious) way you go full series then is to expand out to different parks and have different storylines going in each one and you re-work the ending of S1 to push back the uprising.

This apparently would have resulting in too much being cut or too many reshoots or maybe they really just insisted that they wanted Westworld to not actually be primarily about a "world" that is set in the "west". That they continue to call it Westworld is a joke when 90% of the show is shot in downtown Singapore now.

Stop once you're done with season 1. Havent started 3 but season 2 was straight shit

Nigga, you loved S3 ep 1 like everybody else on Yas Forums. Great episode suggestion though

Stop it, the other resorts, Medieval World and Roman World, are shown in Westworld film of 1973.
Don't pretend they didn't exist.
You obviously know nothing about this universe.

>Yas Forums hates season 1 of Westworld now
What the fuck? Everybody loved it when it first aired

Season 3 episode 1 was pure Kino, especially the different choices of Asian countries settings.
I recognise a lot of them because I do a lot of business in South-East Asia.

Shut the fuck up tripfag

Filtered

They certainly did fucking not the show was a joke after the first couple episodes muh shrink ray

>watching westworld without Anthony Hopkins in it anymore

do people do this?

>Either rewatch True detective season one or the entirety of Leftovers.
wait til you get to peak blackpill level and realize how badly they all suck. every fucking show. except oz

someone please spoil this season for me, i cant even be assed to wiki it

Only decent episode after S1 is the indian episoe in S2.

Triggered by the Truth, sad pretentious manbaby got a deserved spanking.
=^_^=

Protip: you can skip the next four episodes

The episode about the indian guy was good too

Indeed best part of S2 was Peter Mullan doing a Ridley Scott impression

So hard this. Starts out amazing and goes to shit so hard and so fast its like watching GoT but only season 1 then 8.

Westworld murders that overrated show

Infodumps are the best parts of his books imho.
Much better than his narratives, ie half of his last book is a Paradise Lost fanfiction and it's unreadable.

Diamond Age is the sequel, is also better than any scifi has right to be. based and prescient.

>Season 2 retroactively ruined Season 1
this
>the robot uprising, which should have happened at the 3/4 mark
>expand out to different parks
Hadn't thought how to fix this shitshow but that could have. Last season, Delores freed the robots and they escape the park.
Also would've allowed them to prolong the interesting parts of S01, MiB especially
S03 is going to be pure garbage, far as the previous story is concerned. All the plotlines are lame as fuck

They're good when they actually tie in to the plot and he uses them sparingly as a way to avoid going too hard on the typical sci-fi technobabble.

He was able to do this well in Snow Crash and Diamond Age (which are coincidentally his two most famous books) but goes way overboard in some of his other books.

Cryptonomicon suffers from this and especially Anathem which reads like an extremely tedious and long-winded knockoff of Dune or A Clockwork Orange with every other word being some made-up newspeak forcing you to keep going back and forth to the glossary to understand what's going on.

This was figured out in the second episode.

Why does everyone hate Fall? I loved that silly story at the end with Corvus and co.
>"Fuck this" Corvus shouted.

The only good thing Westworld gave to Yas Forums was all the shrink ray memes and people being dumb enough to honestly believe all the crank theories that come out every new episode.

There was some decent OC out of it. I still see big brained maeve from time to time

Attached: 1577020877241.webm (1400x788, 1.76M)

westworld: flying cars
snowcrash: no flying cars

westworld: no VR, plot doesn't require it
snowcrash: minecraft-tier VR, half the story happens in there

westworld: there are at least parts of the US that are still wealthy
snowcrash: US melted down years ago

westworld: omg robots
snowcrash: omg people's brains being wiped by root access codes from ancient Sumeria

westworld: protagonist is a feisty girl robot
snowcrash: protagonist is a jaded Japanese-American coder with a sword

i could go on, but i don't need to.

I have only seen the first season off westworld and couldn't be bothered to watch the second. I really liked the first one though. should I watch season 2 just for the lulz?

who says they're evil

Just continue watching user.
You might as well quit after Season one though.

Wait I haven't been keeping up. Did S3 just change it into another show?

I was waiting this entire time for the climax where the robots go berserk but that hasnt' happeend yet?

> an extremely tedious and long-winded knockoff of Dune or A Clockwork Orange

a clockwork orange? what the fuck orifice did you pull that out of? because both books have words you don't understand, thou gloopy bolshy jellyfish thou?

>I was waiting this entire time for the climax where the robots go berserk but that hasnt' happeend yet?

> Dolores shoots a bunch of people

this is, apparently, normal for amerifats.
