People do eat and drink brands. I though it was fairly naturalistic, there was a scene I remember where the Major Crimes crew are at a restaurant and everyone has their own different drink, but the bottles aren't particularly turned to the camera, some aren't even visible beyond knowing what a famous brand's bottle looks like, it looks like everyone just ordered what drink they like.

It flowed pretty naturally. It's not nearly as offensive as the way seinfeld or other shows did it

I've never seen a show that does drunk scenes as good as this. I almost believe they were chugging before filming, the slurring and garbled words is spot on.

An interesting thing about Herc though, is that in season 1, when they were looking for Bodie and they show up at his grandma's house and make a mess, Herc then apologizes to the grandma as he leaves. He seems sincere. It's strange though, because he never did anything like that ever again. It was just some weird, out of character thing that they never touch on again.

I assume because she was an older m'am, it's one of the few things he would feel the need to be polite about. I don't think you see him interact with any other older ladies.

I'm hard pressed to think of one in ANY show.

Herc seems like a dumb muscle head but was actually pretty complex. The way his relationship changes with Carver shows it pretty well.

Make though mistake though, Herc was dumb as fuck. But dumb people can be complex in personality too. He just lacks much concept of nuance and no interest in learning, unlike Carver.

The whole "upward mobility" thing is a trick in every industry in the city, the drug gang, police, city hall, schools etc. Pawns trying to get to the other side to be Queens and almost all dying in the process (and even if you did get to the other side, Queens are still subservient to Kings, the big reward is still number two at best). The characters that get off fine tend to be the ones that just refuse to play entirely. Even the "winners" of the game tend to lose too much on the way, or find the top rung of the ladder has another rung hidden above and they're still eating someone's shit no matter how high they climb.
