>20 years of cgi progress
amazing
20 years of cgi progress
You can laugh all you want, but on the top picture only dinosaurus are CGI
On the bottom everything is CGI
nice try the bottom one is from a videogame
The JW dinosaurs move like shit, they have no weight to them.
A little detail: The reason why Roberta is so skinny in JW is because she didn't hunt and was feeding on goats instead of large animals. In FK she has more volume again after becoming a active predator again
Why did they take away her stripes and make her such a dull monotonous grey instead of the rich earthy tones?
>le cgi has gotten worse
daily reminder that dinosaurs never existed
That's dumb, getting no exercise and eating fat farm raised animals should've just made her flabby.
Daily reminder that weak bait can take many forms
Jurassic World is the proof that cinema has died
>no feathers
not watching
Probably more triangles in bottom's tooth than all of the top.
>old cinema uses CGI sparingly and hides the shortcomings skillfully, also mixes it with practical effects
>current cinema makes literally every single fucking thing cgi and looks worse than current videogame cutscenes
Only because directors repeatedly use cgi to make every character, the background, and the location. JP1 and 2 stand up because the cgi is minimal, exclusively for shots of the animals in moody dramatic light or out of focus.
Does that mean the bottom pic is actually better even though it looks worse?
It's all about the lighting. Every director thinks he can get away with everything being cgi, but it has to be hidden in quick jumpcuts or moody lighting until we get to photorealism/get through uncanny valley. Spielberg redid the cgi for JP something like 3 times because it didn't look real enough, but they struck gold with ILM.
top pic
>real background
>real camera
>shot on film
>dinosaurs properly color graded
>matched lighting
>added motion blur and film grain to match real environment
bottom
>100% CGI
>everything is perfectly lit and balanced so you can see every pore and wrinkle sculpted in which would be impossible to do with a real camera
>no motion blur so image looks crisp and fake on your 4k tv playing at 120 frames per second
>camera is... somewhere? There is no camera. It's CGI. The VFX team will just swing the "camera" around wherever they fuck they want, regardless of whether or not it's possible.
The world is only 2020 years old
Dinosaurs are a Jewish conspiracy
I'm sure they weren't feeding her ONLY goats. That was just an audience thing. She was so skinny because she's old as shit
reminder that the car is cgi too
It's not about the triangles as much as it's about knowing how to do shading, composition and rendering. Bottom looks out of place because the contrast and coloring levels are all wrong.
It's also really ugly.
It's literally soul vs soulless
Top pic looks like a real living animal in its natural enviroment and bottom looks like a character select screen
Well it sure looks like it, especially in movement.
pretty fucking sure that shot is an animatronic
It is. You can easily tell from the lighting.
The other unsettling thing is that the theropod dinos in JP looks like birds of prey in mannerism but in JW and FK, they do things like smile and wink at the camera.... So it's a failure in both cgi and direction
ya it is you cant tell from the lighting and movement, it looks way better than cgi though
Diminishing returns
Weren't all the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park models made by people instead of being 100% CGI? Isn't that why the movie still holds up to this day?
also from the robotic movement
The fence breaking down looks so terrible.
daily reminder giant dinosaurs couldn't survive today
worldbuilding.stackexchange.com
There are a ton of shots where the dinosaurs are 100% CGI, but they also used animatronic dinosaurs.
I only watched JP1, are the other movies good?
There's only 14 minutes of vfx shots with dinos in JP and only 4 of these are CGI. So yeah. Lots and lots of practical effects. Lots of hidings things.
There were models for nearly everything, but they filled in the gaps with cgi.
No. Absolutely not.
Each sequel manages to be worse than the previous film.
Actually, there were about 50 men standing on top of each other in dinosaur costumes.
CLONING OF DINOSAURS SHOULD BE POSSIBLE. WHY ARENT THEY DOING IT!!!????
20 years or finding how cheap they can make CGI without normies finding it unbearable
CGI creatures always look dumb because they have the over animated mannerisms of Loony Tunes characters. Watch any footage of something like a lion in real life and it doesn't leap around the place making over exaggerated poses like it's in a high school theatre production and roaring for no reason every 10 seconds.
JP was ruined long ago because half the original cast didn't want to do a second movie but the studio went ahead without them and then half the original cast agreed to come back for a third but the other half didn't and that fucked the timelines all up. same thing happened with ID4 will smith didn't want to come back for the sequel so they just turned it into femminist genz trope that will be forgotten about in 10 years.
Because DNA breaks over time and we've never been able to find Dinosaur DNA.
This is the same problem as The Hobbit compared to The Lord of the Rings. CGI hasn't got worse, it's that it used to be used in a straightforward manner, and now it's used in over-beautified, over-stylised paintings rather than anything that tries to look real.
10 years? More like 10 days.
Both Hobbit and the JP sequels used way more CGI than their predecessor so clearly the problem is how much it's used, not how stylized it looks
>also from the robotic movement
My family owns emus. They do move funny like that sometimes
Correlation isn't causation, bud.
It's the studios pushing the CGI to be used for everything so they can change things when they see fit every 20 minutes during production. Most big movies are borderline animated films these days. It creates this bland painted by committee look with everything as it's not a clear coherant vision from one person.
WHAT ABOUT WOOLY MAMMOTH OR DODO BIRD? FUCK I WANT TERROR BRIDS BACK!!!
>cgi in jurassic park was good
no, it was shit back then, people just like to cherry pick scenes where they were able to hide it better
There was a lot more effort put into every shot then. The raptors in that scene looked like they actually had weight.
It boggles my mind how well Starship Troopers holds up
maybe the general kind of movement but you can really see the one movable part in the neck that moves independently of the others in that gif
Only some scenes were CGI. alot of it was mechanical. animatronics.
We've done like ancient bees. That's about it.
The CGI is what this thread is about user, and the CGI is what he posted
>zoom zoom
Fuck off retard
Starship Troopers had Phil Tippett handling the animation of the creatures, just as Jurassic Park did.
Great mixture of real locations, real explosions and CGI creatures with good camera angles
God that's hot
It was the largest rolling explosion ever committed to film at that point. Since beaten out by Iron Man.
>Roberta
Her name is Rexy, you fucking faggot
Why does the fence bother me so much? It looks "almost" real with how everything acts but at the same time it looks so fake.
Based negative poster
The excessive roaring really pisses me off too
