Finally saw this. Very comfy. Some lighthearted elements to the script. More of a who done it than a comedy. Gosford Park is still better but no regrets seeing this movie. Rian Johnson did a great job with everything. The alt right nazi stuff was topical, so it might not hold up in twenty years. Kind of cheap the way he went out of his way to make the family so unlikeable, but eh. He kinda had to for Marta to end up the hero. Thr meek shall inherit the earth is a pretty vapid ending, but it certainly lends to the comfy, feel-good vibe. Congrats RJ.
Finally saw this. Very comfy. Some lighthearted elements to the script. More of a who done it than a comedy...
It was a mediocre whodunnit, and worse at everything else
>be a professional nurse
>know that the medicine and the morhine have the same bottles
>doesn't read the name written on the bottle anyways
was she retarded?
Is that the blade runner chick? Looks like the wall has claimed another victim.
what's with Rian and making good looking women look as frumpy and ugly as possible? what an asshole.
imagine enjoying the dialogue
I get we weren't supposed to like the one guy but did he need to repeat the "kfc accent" joke three time?
the mexican girl is 100% responsible for old man's death, and she gets aways with the crime, and all his wealth.
BRAVO RJ!
Did you not watch the movie?
Uncanny
It didn't matter what happened after the fact. She should have known not to mix up the bottles consciously not by feel.
>Massively underused cast
>solved the "mystery" 20 minutes in and spends the next hour doing nothing
>lying make her suck except she is able to lie twice and keep it down long enough for it to matter
Shit movie.
>illegal mexican steals american family's inheritance
Why do they always end up making a stronger point for the other side? They need better propaganda editors.
>completely passive
>gets pushed around by white men
>super special
>all the good characters love her and go out of their way to help her
very poor writing, rian!
This. Even ignoring Rian's political faggotry, the plot was ruined very early. iirc it still had a couple twists after that but they weren't interesting.
Rian, if you want people to think your mc is a good person, don't have her try to cover up medical malpractice resulting in the death of her elderly charge. I don't care how deported her mom is going to get, a good person wouldn't do that.
Bulldog lookin ass
A man has a right to decide where his money goes when he dies
Kek.
Yes, of course he would decide to give it to the nice illegal lady instead of the evil white family.
Couldn't stand the pro illegal alien propaganda Rian was stuffing down my throat. That bitch should have been deported.
Not according to the commies that made this piece of crap. There has been many instances of nurses manipulating their senile patients into changing their will. The family usually sues them and gets it back because apparently clear-headed people usually don't live their entire estate to a random nurse over their own family.
Its funny though because this type of thing happens a lot in the real world
>Several people present, even in the final shot, who are not suspects or interviewed in any way throughout the movie
Isn't this a big nono for a whodunit?
Maybe because of manipulation like user here states and not because the illegal lady is an angel on earth and the family are bigoted, racists and two faced assholes that don't deserve anything and should lose everything in favor to the harmless, empathetic, nice immigrants.
>Captain America outright admits to doing it all
That crap about her knowing the difference by weight was stupid shit. I have years of handling medication and you can't feel shit through those vials.
my main problem with it is that it's not really a whodunnit and that's what i went in wanting and expecting. they tell you it's the maid like 10 minutes in and maintain that until the last 10 minutes. a real whodunnit wouldn't reveal who did it til the end and let you make your own theory before the reveal. this movie leaves no room for that.
Also, my point was that, whether they deserved it or not, their inheritance was taken from them from someone who shouldn't even be in the country. So what's his political message here? That we should give up our homes to other people if they deserve it more? Even if you could determine who deserves what in an objective way, why should anyone care? He is making a much stronger point for the other side, that their livelihood is being threatened and they should be concerned.
It wasn't just by weight braintlet, did you watch the movie? It was the visual different in the liquids, the viscosity of the liquids.
regardless of the fact that she didn't technically kill him by mixing up the drug, it is COMPLETELY retarded that she wouldn't be extremely paranoid of making that exact mistake daily and compulsively checking the labels every time when handling potential dangerous shit like that. leaving it up to "feel" is negligence even if she didn't actually dose him wrong
I tried to watch it, but the opening scenes' dialogue was so cringey and exposition heavy that I couldn't.
One part I didn't like was when Craig suddenly yelling at the family and said "You all treated her like shit" or smth, where in fact they've been really nice to her all the time. Where did that come from?
>be professional nurse
>be a bit high as a result of dumbass family smoking pot in the living room next to you
>also be really tired
>the bottles of the drugs are intentionally switched to cause her to mess up
>she still notices that subconsciously and administers the right dosages of both
>however, panics because the bottles were intentionally switched and tries to administer the antidote, which was stolen
Literally not her fault at all, she did the entirely correct thing despite being set up to fail in every way.
She inherits the money basically by default because the whole family are pieces of shit except maybe Meg, but Meg is still kinda a piece of shit because she's weak-willed and gets bullied into doing bad things by the rest of her shitty family.
She doesn't steal shit. Also she's legal, it's just her mother who isn't. The only reason you'd be bitter about her getting the fortune is because you sympathize more with the family than her, which means you sympathize with the villains of the film. At which point idk what to tell you.
Why are these threads always filled with people who clearly have not watched the film/have zero comprehension of basic, very obvious plot points and just want to ram in their own political agenda?
It's so odd, because half the posts about this film are always people saying
>omg it's such an obvious movie holy shit, no tension at all 0/10 incredibly dull whodunnit
but then the other half of the comments are
>omg they never explain this thing (that the movie explains in great detail) what a shitty movie why the fuck would they miss this obvious plothole/point (which they didn't)
Very odd...
>white people bad
dam.. it really do be like that sometimes
We're talking about Rian Johnson here he likes to stick it to the people he perceives as assholes. if you were offended by this movie its you he was trying to bother
>>the bottles of the drugs are intentionally switched to cause her to mess up
No faggot, she dropped them and didn't check for 2 seconds after picking them up before shooting a fucking needle into them and then into the man. The absolute minimum required work she must do for as much money she was getting.
>the whole family are pieces of shit except maybe Meg
Figures. Only a redditard socialist antiwhite cuckold could defend her. Kill yourself.
you didn't pay attention to the end. evans switched the labels but armas knew by feel which was the morphine and so she didn't actually give him the wrong dose. it actually was suicide, he wouldn't have died without slitting his throat. if they had just called the ambulance like armas wanted to, he would've been fine because they weren't actually short on time
the real irony that everyone seems to be missing is that if plummer hadn't have given a shit about "how it looked" for the maid by trying to cover it up with the suicide, he wouldn't have died, so in a way rian punishes him for caring about him maid while not taking care of his family with the will
Did her son and daughter really deserve to be cut out of the will?
I get his daughter was rich enough on her own but denying her the "family" estate is bound to see the family disintegrate since they can no longer come together for Christmas and holidays.
Also, his son wasn't actively doing anything shitty beyond pestering the father for movie deals since he didn't get to do anything else with the publishing business.
Only Chris Evans and Lori whatever deserved to be cut out of the will.
That's not even true, the family members were not pieces of shit except for the woman who was leeching money and lying about what it was for and obviously captain america who murdered him. Families have disagreements, but that's doesn't mean they hate each other. Rian the hack couldn't even make the 'villains' believably bad. That's the problem. If they were all evil bastards like the murderer than I would agree with you.
what do you mean?
They all pretend to be nice to her but none of them were
>subtly threaten to expose her mom if she doesn't fork over the inheritance
>they literally all say "I wanted you at the funeral but I was outvoted" (meaning none of them wanted her at the funeral and all were lying, because otherwise she would have been there)
>none of them remember what country she is from
>all of them put on an act until they want the money from her, at which point they all tear her apart
>immediately jump from "you're part of the family!" to "omg you totally slept with him to cheat us out of our money you BITCH" en masse
>none of them care about her or ask her how she's doing outside of superficial comments
>Even Meg, the best one, still is totally selfish and hangs up on her as soon as she gets what she wants
>The rest of the family is even more selfish than that
And I'm probably forgetting more details.
They treat her like shit, lie to her, manipulate her, bully her, threaten her, and harass her multiple times over the course of the movie. They only ever pretend to be nice but really are complete assholes.
She told him all that and she didn't notice most of that because she was naive and kindhearted, but the smarter and more cunning detective caught onto that and that's why he ranted at them: because the details she gave hi (which were all truthful because she can't lie) added up to the family not-so-subtly thinking they're all better than her and that she's not really part of the family at all, despite them all constantly saying that.
He was being over dramatic on purpose. But the family was fake as fuck to her.
>if you were offended by this
anyone with an intact moral compass should be offended by that movie. Also, anyone that cares about the quality of the films they pay to see.
>>none of them care about her or ask her how she's doing outside of superficial comments
They offered that she keep getting paid her monthly salary even when there was no longer the need for her. Of course, this was when they thought they'd be multi-millionnaires by the end of the day.
the movie fucking sucked and the retard old man would have immediately felt a huge dose of morphine and would have been slurring words and shit but nope. he had to kill himself painfully with the exact same dosage of drugs in his system that he always took. bullshit.
>No faggot, she dropped them and didn't check for 2 seconds after picking them up before shooting a fucking needle into them and then into the man. The absolute minimum required work she must do for as much money she was getting.
Did you miss the whole climax of the movie?
The drugs were switched, she picked up the right one based on weight and feel and administered it correctly, but thought it was wrong when she double-checked the labels.
>Figures. Only a redditard socialist antiwhite cuckold could defend her. Kill yourself.
buzzword buzzword buzzword
Do you like joylessly masturbating to pictures of dead deer?
Please watch the film before shitposting about it. Or grow a brain that can comprehend pictures and sounds emanating from a screen.
>That's not even true, the family members were not pieces of shit except for the woman who was leeching money and lying about what it was for and obviously captain america who murdered him.
Jamie Lee Curtis's character is generally OK morally but still is a two-faced bitch when challenged on anything. She's also a liar and a braggart, as evidenced by the numerous lies she tells throughout the film to make herself look better ("self-started" a company with a massive amount of her dad's money)
Her husband is a simp who won't stand up for himself and also cheats on his wife
Michael Shannon's character is a loser leech who piggybacks on his dad's success while being utterly spineless. Otherwise he's pretty OK though
Meg is well-meaning but is a trust-fund brat and hypocrite, and also a stoner loser. Also spineless and a coward.
Shannon's son is basically a non-character, but what we know of him paints him to be creepy
The sister in law was cheating the old man out of money, as you say
Ransom was a piece of shit in numerous ways
They are all in some way assholes. They don't all break the law, true, but if your standard for "doesn't deserve to be cut off" is "isn't a literal criminal", that's a low standard.
Agreed. Hope Craig's character returns to the silver screen soon his accent improves by the minute
the sense of humor was dated when it came out
those in your greentext were all from around the reading of the will and everyone was highly emotional they even fought with each other. The only 'bad' thing they did was not remembering where she came from, but that didn't mean 'treating her like shit'.
>thinking they're all better than her and that she's not really part of the family at all
but that's a fact. And they didn't treat her any lower or any higher. Neither she or the family should expect anything more than professional relationship from each other. And now she's got the lottery money suddenly she has the right to only remember the 'slight annoyance' and forget all the 'comfort' they gave her? Give me a break.
>Do you like joylessly masturbating to pictures of dead deer?
Yes.
>The drugs were switched, she picked up the right one based on weight and feel and administered it correctly, but thought it was wrong when she double-checked the labels.
Defending plot armor, what a faggot. She was rationally supposed to check the labels first. No buts.
>Please watch the film before shitposting about it.
The only good parts were the Ransom scenes. How about you grew a vagina from birth and not need to cut yourself open every coupe of hours to keep up your mental charade?
Jesus christ. It was complete bullshit, get over it.
Most of that family didn't deserve or work for the things they got it was the old man who worked hard and made his empire so he got to do with it what he wanted in the end
Absolute trash of a movie and you have zero fucking taste.
yes, but they also all are known liars. Why would you trust their word when literally all of them say
>I wanted you at the funeral but I was outvoted
The math doesn't add up, clearly multiple or (more likely) all of them are lying, since they all have shown that the lie like a fish swims.
idk why you would think they are acting or speaking in good faith since scene 1 of the movie establishes that none of them can be trusted in either their words or their actions.
It's possible they would have kept paying her, but it's just as likely that was lip service and they would have let her go without so much as a severance package
agreed OP it was a wholesome film
Good movie but I don't think there has ever been a bigger Mary Sue character
>Defending plot armor, what a faggot.
you could say it's unrealistic, sure, but that wasn't your initial position. And that is the internal logic of the movie as it was given.
>She was rationally supposed to check the labels first. No buts.
true, but that's the smallest of small mistakes, which can be excused by:
-trying circumstances
-tiredness
-routineness
-mildly buzzed through no fault of her own
and she still gets it right.
Compared to all the other bad shit in the film, why stick on that point? Is your argument that she's a bad person who doesn't deserve her happy ending because she is slightly careless yet still because of her training and expertise gets it right, despite being intentionally set up to kill the old man? Weird argument.
>The only good parts were the Ransom scenes.
disagree they were the only good parts, but yeah Ransom was the best. Daniel Craig's scenes were also surprisingly good, though, despite my initial dislike of his accent he really sold the part. His donut hole speech/rant was quite entertaining.
> How about you grew a vagina from birth and not need to cut yourself open every coupe of hours to keep up your mental charade?
edgy, you must be popular with people.
Oh wait no you spend all your time on your phone in the bathroom joylessly masturbating to pictures of dead deer...
It was nice to watch a "who did it" murder mystery that had some originality. Plus Ana was cuuuuute.
