You want to figure out what happened and why and how to fix it because you care for that person. They will take joy in getting away with it and fuck with your head making you think its your fault and you are weak for not stopping it. You dont know what to do because you care for them and dont want to hurt them, you dont want to leave them, and you think they care about you too still and are just having some new problem.
In the case of female against male abuse, it tends to keep progressing to extreme instances like publicly attacking the male and humiliating him in front of friends and family until he snaps and hits her and then he is the bad guy and she gets to claim he always abusive and everyone beleives these stupid dirty holes.
