Game of Thrones caused a large upswing in ASOIAF sales, too, but season 8 was still reviled. Not that user but it massively increased awareness of the Witcher franchise due to it's very expensive marketing campaign, I would say that Netflix easily spent more on marketing the show than making it. Adverts where everywhere and the cast where doing a talk show circuit.

I get the feeling they may kill Geralt off. Cavill was brought in to increase awareness and then kill his character to lower costs and try to ride a wave of "just like GOT" and make Ciri the Witcher. Literally what I did. I watched that cringeworthy spider fight and then watched the witcher game trailers to see what the fuss was about. Cancelled my free trial and bought witcher 3 because it was clearly structured better.
