Taxi Driver in all fields.

Made me cry like a bitch, for the first time since early childhood. I don't know why. Myabe it's the music, maybe it's the theme of accepting the death of a loved one that's close to my heart, maybe it's the visuals, maybe it's all of the above - this movie left me a mess in the poodle of my tears and remains the most cathartic experiences of my life that made me seriously rethink some decisions I had made in the past and rebuld bridges I had burned.

Really didn't expect this whimsy indie flick to almost make me choke crying. highly recommended it to all the aspiring NEETs out there

I've had it downloaded for months but can't make myself watch it again because I know it's going to fucking ruin me again. I read Kaufman's screenplay a few weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about the funeral monologue.
>"Everything is more complicated than you think. You only see a tenth of what is true. There are a million little strings attached to every choice you make; you can destroy your life every time you choose. But maybe you won’t know for twenty years. And you may never ever trace it to its source. And you only get one chance to play it out. Just try and figure out your own divorce. And they say there is no fate, but there is: it’s what you create. And even though the world goes on for eons and eons, you are only here for a fraction of a fraction of a second. Most of your time is spent being dead or not yet born. But while alive, you wait in vain, wasting years, for a phone call or a letter or a look from someone or something to make it all right. And it never comes or it seems to but it doesn’t really. And so you spend your time in vague regret or vaguer hope that something good will come along."

I feel in relation to this movie the same way I feel in relation to Come and See.

Fuck this film. It's absolutely excellent yes. But I'll never watch it again.

Fire Walk With Me

This movie: something happened to me that I can't even explain well, the movie made me stop smoking, not that I decided, basically, I couldn't smoke after I saw it and I thought I would never be able to stop smoking.

After that, I started to read the Bible and trying to understand my relationship with God, myself and life.

This movie "fucked" the way I see cinema now, now I KNOW what art is. For the better or worse.

That movie sucked. You are weak minded and easily influenced. Smoke or don't smoke, but do it for your own reasons, not because some shit movie influenced you

If you're not supposed to be influenced by TARKOVSKY, please tell me what films a real patrician should be influenced by

To expand a little bit more:

The day I saw it I cried like I never before but it was crying of the sublime, pure joy, I see everything brighter that day, I was alone and I saw it on my computer. No other movie made me feel like that. I read his diaries and book after that, I cried with his dairy. I had weird and strong dreams after that.

He is the ultimate director, not even because he understood "cinema". He was approaching God in a very profound way, I think he had all the Holy Spirit, he was a Christ on Earth, the ultimate proof of God existence.

WE DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT WE ARE.

It's okay brother, you will never ever are going to have a Sublime experience with cinema, you will have to take drugs just to have a little of that but you will never have it in a pure way.

Blue Valentine

Manchester by the Sea

I just looked him up and already changed my mind. He's a great man

user to be honest I really can't relate to what you're talking about but I wish I could. I was already Christian when I got into Tarkovsky, so maybe there's a difference there. To me Tarkovsky is someone who saw the beauty in the mundane and can help you do the same - maybe this is what you mean by seeing things "brighter."

If there's anyone who had seen his movies and not felt anything, damn I would be scared to death to meet you.

I know that feel
easily one of the best movies of the last 30-40 years

Please stop posting pictures of me here. Thanks.

I'm watching his movies for the first time. What should I start with?

Ivan's Childhood is the most accessible, but Stalker is the most famous.

Should I watch Dear Zachary? Also pic related

Thank you

Yes totally, I started to validate my view, I always felt like "wrong" inside and he validates profoundly the opposite.

But I have my theory about the image of cinema and the image on anything.

Tarkovsky is someone who uses the story just as a pretext to tell an image, to tell an image is way harder than the story, that's why cinema most of the time is just "video-books", they need literature to tell something and give something to the audience after they exit the movies: questions, easter eggs, plot holes, etc. But Tarkovsky when to the opposite, he started to give "answers" with the image, crushing intellect and rationality and proving that emotions are the ultimate truth of human beings no matter how much we read.

He used cinema as a way to manipulate Time, but not Time in a physical level or Newtonian, but meta-physically. Is like when people say to each other "you live in the past" like literally, that person is living in the past but in a metaphysical level, another example is when you masturbate with your memory, you go to the image to past to reach extasis, so you are pushing your past into your present. Tarkovsky knew this and found the way to "manipulate your inner Time" so you can close chapters in your life.

With Mirror I think he goes to destroy or take your protection off (rationality) then when you are disarmed mentally, he "injects" you with an ethical ideal, in this case, God and Jesus Christ and in that openness maybe God reveals himself to you and give you a miracle.

It doesn't matter, the movie that will be for you then that will be.

You can go chronologically or not, really just watch them.

I'm going to start with the stalker

idk why but it ruined me emotionally

Just remember, is not the story, you can even not understand anything of what happened, I can even invite you to watch it without subtitles.

Even today I don't know the story of all of his movies and I don't want to, I consumed the image, what he intended to do.

>Tarkovsky is someone who uses the story just as a pretext to tell an image, to tell an image is way harder than the story

What...? I don't see what you mean. Are you just saying that Tarkovsky uses images to evoke emotions rather than narrative?

Yes, I watched all his movies without subtitles, I saw Mirror without subtitles I don't speak Russian, I don't what the movie is about, yet It changed my life forever.
