I loved the detective trilogy and was thrilled when Holly showed up in Outsider and when I heard they ruined her fucking character liek this was I....god it doesn't even piss me off anymore I'm just always so fucking tired.

I haven't read those novels, I know King likes to do the Magical Black Man from time to time so he probably gave it his blessing. It's not entirely about how she looks though.

Her character gives the game away in that first scene where she talks about doppelgangers. So you have a murder mystery where the evidence is extremely confusing, but the most logical explanation is that the man was impersonated somehow. Who knows how, it seems impossible, but somehow - it must be.

Well now you have a savant character like L from Death Note walk in, basically a wizard lady, and explain everything to the viewer in 10 seconds while also being anti-charisma, like a charisma black hole. None of that has anything to do specifically with the actress being an extremely ugly, short, low IQ diversity hire, but it doesn't help.

I refuse to watch this show but in the book she is obsessed with movies and after hearing all the evidence she decides the details sound similar to a creature from a certain movie.
As far as being a charisma black hole in the books she is very socially awkward possibly aspergers and has had a poor upbringing with parents that don't understand her.

Apparently he never read the previous books, said that he doesn't need to understand her character and can do whatever he wants with her. Ben mendelsohns character is SOOO grounded and never believes in the unexplainable. So he never once utter "impersonator" or "frame job" as does no one else. Fucking weird stretch to go straight to monster and skip that.
