why would they release a trailer when they can't possibly know when the film can be released to the public. if they release a trailer now and the film hits in 2+ years it'll ruin any momentum and hype they usually rely on to get asses in seats. it's also possible there won't be movie theaters by then and it'll go to HBO Max instead.

Well, you said it yourself - that's an alternative in case shit hits the fan with the pandemic - instead of a theater release, we'll get a digital streaming release, and when things calm down they'll finally run it in theaters as it is customary. People'll still want to see it on a big IMAX screen, I can guarantee you.

What the fuck are you talking about? The December holiday window is the perfect time for big budget, highly anticipated movie releases. The LotR movies were premiered exactly around that time, so I don't see what's the problem here with Dune. After all, the studios' primary goal is profit, and pre-Christmas release dates are the dates where there's the most theater cash flow.

It's not going to be a box office hit mate, and reading the wiki plot synopsis of the book alone is going to put people off from taking their friends and kids to see this. Dune was never meant to be a kids' story. And you're mistaken in thinking that LotR doesn't have any themes tied to the real world's moral, religious and historical precedents.
