What was this? Why was this the most spooky thing on television ever?
What was this? Why was this the most spooky thing on television ever?
The man broke the system's psyop brainwashing waves and that disoriented the populace and enraged the people in power.
It's the mystery that makes it so creepy. Knowing that we'll likely never know who was behind that mask, who the girl was that spanked him, etc. They committed a federal crime AND they got away with it. I say 'bravo' to them.
>autists hack into broadcast signals and just broadcast pirated movies, star trek, and porn
>nobody still knows who exactly did it

was it kino?

What are some other occurrences of this
Was this the guy who got away also what did he say?
Along with pancreas denial, this is a rarity.
This was the spookiest thing on tv desu
Whats this? Subgenius ramblings?
it has been narrowed down over the years enough among people who were/are in the 2600 type scene to almost certainly be one guy and I cant remember if his brother was involved or not
2600 scene?
You assume it's humans. But it was the supernatural
Kino
>MY FILES!!
some fake alien invasion at a family's house that shit spooked me
I need context.

The Station nightclub fire
In the early period of the digital era (1970s) AT&T used a box that would terminate the connection of a phone call if it received a tone at 2600hz. A guy who was aware of this fact happened to capable of perfect pitch, a trait that lets them remember and produce stuff at the exact sound frequency. He realized that the flute that came from the Cap'n Crunch cereal produced a tone at 2600hz and when played while in a phone call it would "terminate" the session even though the two parties were still talking. This allowed him to make long distance calls free of charge. This is something mostly forgotten by zoomers, long distance calls within the borders of the US faded away by the early 2000s and are mostly gone internationally because of VOIP.
The 2600 scene is a niche group of hackers called "phreakers" who specialized in fucking with the telephone systems for their own gain.
I remember when that greentext was posted.
Used to be a 2600 magazine reader, that makes the most sense for sure.
Legit fascinating
How was this spooky?
It really annoys the shit out of me that this is how zoomers know Max Headroom. He was a pretty good parody of an eceleb 30 years too early but every time he's brought up this is the only thing people know about him.
The screams.... just too much. I've only watched it once and have no desire to do so again.
He's talking about a Chicago area Bulletin Board System (BBS)
the leading theory is that some autist from a local board had a brother who worked at the station
that's the video of the nightclub fire?
that wasn't a tv broadcast, that's someone's recording of it
Nexpo just recently posted a video that has a bunch of footage of the fire. Watch that or hunt down the full video and tell me it isn't creepy, you hear the sounds of people dying, not everyone(100 lost their lives) but enough that you will be shook.
It’s both actually
Shaken
The McPherson Tapes?
this guy gets it
imagine you have the airwaves for 5 minutes and you post this inane shit. You could have started a revolution.
it was during doctor who in the middle of the night dude
Someone made him tea knowing that he couldn't stand tea.
Incident in Lake County? I saw that shit live when i was a little kid, if I remember it premiered right after a moon landing hoax documentary on Fox. That movie scared the fuck out of me, I was a little paranormal autist in elementary school. I actually just revisited it two nights ago and it's pretty funny really.
It’s already been said but it’s most likely because it’s a mystery, no one knows who did it, no one knows why, no one totally understands the message and those that delivered it went to great lengths to do so. It takes a lot of power and a good working knowledge of wireless communications to override a signal like that. I think the one they overrode was emanating from the top of the fucking sears tower too
based
Yeah, same. This fat older kid from the block who was a huge nerd told me about it and swore it was real. He lent me the tape, which he recorded from TV with his VCR, and I saw it. It really freaked me out for a bit after that. I think it aired on UPN though. Think I'll give it a rewatch with my kids. They're pussies though
bump
Julian Assange co-wrote a non-fiction book documenting that era of hacker culture, you should check it out.

Its available for free as a pdf and txt file.

There are also some audiobook files, but they're harder to find.
Who here thinks numbers stations are cool as fuck and ripe for way better movies than The Banshee Chapter and The Numbers Station.
this is what the guy who hacked the broadcast said. user just copy-pasted it
If you watch the video, you can actually hear the people inside the nightclub dying from being cooked alive. After about 5 or 6 minutes of footage, the screams stop. That's not because the people made it out.
is where and how many victims died.
Its insane just how quickly a pyrotechnics show becomes the entire building engulfed in flames.
Good shit, thanks user
Was their real purpose ever found out? I forgot they even existed.
>If you watch the video, you can actually hear the people inside the nightclub dying from being cooked alive. After about 5 or 6 minutes of footage, the screams stop. That's not because the people made it out.
nah its just steam escaping their shells
Probably some kind of clandestine military communications network. They tap into my love of "the evil is right under our noses" trope.
Agencies sending coded messages to spies out in the field
UPN makes sense, fox was was pretty schlock though in the late 1990s, might account for confusion.
They feature in The Americans as a method of spy communication
That’s the remake. The original is better.
Captain Midnight
You silly goose
Fuck bros why do my eyes tear up when I read spooky shit like ITT
Clip?
man it was for sure one or the other thanks for reminding me
Shit like this really shows how much the Internet took the piss out of everything. This must be how older generations felt whenever dapper fuckers started telling them that their ghost myths were based on stupid bullshit like rusty pipes.
Such a fun movie
You're taking the piss out of yourself, shit is still fun, it's all about what you make of it.
