Why don't we speak good French? Why? The genuine question here is why does anyone speak French at all? There you have it, the English language equivalent of a few pages of a French writer or thinker.

If you're trying to learn the language, what I recommend is watching the french dub/sub of movies you're familiar with. Dubs are in a neutral accent so you don't have to fight weird inflections and slurred speech.

The only way I learned more was by listening to French radio and reading french newspapers. With fictional content I cared too much about the story to care what they were saying. Radio helps a lot.

Honestly, I find Godard's film to be pretty soulless. They are interesting in their technique and how different they are from the other films at the time, but there really isn't any beauty in them.
