It is incredibly interesting when you see/hear people who genuinely hold such beliefs

There's this gaming podcast I've been listening to for two years now with four ultra politically correct dads in their 30s as the hosts. There's one guy on the show who just falls for each and every marketing stunt and almost acts like he works for the fucking companies. It's not like they're being bribed or anything either, this is a really small podcast that gets less than 100 views each week. Just spouting the same catchphrases and buzzwords they hear in ads over and over, they get so accustomed to taking in that marketing language that it becomes a part of their own day-to-day vocabulary and everything they say starts to sound like they're shilling

Really unsettling honestly. I think the existence of the 'popular culture' scene in general is really awful and allowed all these negative influences on the world and on people to exist. People are being brainwashed easier than ever before. Like, in the old days you never watched a television show because it was a craze or because there was a huge "fandom" surrounding it (you'd get your ass kicked for even saying fandom out loud, and rightfully so), you'd watch it because it played on your favourite channel regularly or because a good friend of yours made a CASUAL suggestion. Now it's all about hype culture and keeping up with the times and being hip.

Everything feels so manufactured and insincere. Like nobody actually likes the things they 'like' anymore, it's just one brief stop in the hype train. RLM Nerd Crew videos perfectly encapsulate this culture imo. Especially that popular gif of Jay, "Don't ask questions, just consume product and get excited for next product". People just get into the new big video game or television show to be cool and feel validated.

I don't know what podcast you're talking about but I think a lot of those people are fully aware of what they're doing. They don't have to be directly bribed to do it, but when you spread positive words about products then companies might notice you and give you some sweet deals and help you rise. If that's not the case, then they are just one of those so called NPCs I guess.

I think it might have a lot to do with your everyday average schmo stuck in their daily grind and whatever outlet their family, friends, or coworkers are in they want to absorb to be happy about what they are happy about. They have no real hobbies for themselves to invest or relate to others in. The problem is that it has become a cult to be a fan of something. The kind of fans that would cuss out at someone like a storm of obscenities for disliking or criticizing something they are into. I'm very certain is it companies consistent bombardment into everyday culture.

He definitely isn't on HitB, I've never watched PreRec to judge. It's incredibly easy to tell when a person is pretending in order to fit into a group, especially when you've been one of them. Jack is exactly that, the way he laughs a split second after everyone else is very telling.
