It's bad.
Because it's shit.
This scene in peculiar when the ATATs lean their head when they get hit with blasters like they have feelings. And shake their head like a dog
>WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING
>I personally don't like them
FTFY
Enough had that opinion for disney to completely retcon most of the film.
Doesn't respect the lore or universe
Doesn't care about the fandom
Doesn't take the universe seriously
Is badly written and preachy
Doesn't understand the OT
*force projects in front of you*
>heh, nothing personnel, kiddo
Imagine how sick it would've been if Luke went full fucking animu on all that shit. Spinning around an leaping 500 feet in the air, force throwing those walkers around like dead elephants caught in a tornado
absolutely the greatest pleb filter in cinematic history.
for a person to understand the last jedi they need a thorough background of classical education. you have to understand plutarch's lives of romans to understand admiral holdo's struggle: "what we achieve inwardly will change outer reality." you further need to understand how relations between authoritarian powers and factions changed with the advent of machiavellian realpolitik, which is the driving theme of the casino scenes. additionally, there's the overwhelming concept of postmodernism and minimalism: why is the rebel fleet just one ship? because there is nothing else in the universe truly exists beyond what we can know to be true. this, of course, doesn't even begin to approach the concepts of metaphysics and singularity introduced by hyperspace ramming, taking the simplistic HURR FASTER THAN LIGHT and giving it proximate effects in tangible, non-euclidean space.
most redditors on this website hate it because it doesn't spoonfeed them. they prefer the empty sheen of the prequels or the simplistic narrative of the original trilogy. they are doomed to walk this earth with blinders, reduced to the least common element, only consuming what is easiest to consume. i pity them.
Its super shit with some good visuals. the visuals don't make up for all the shit though
>finally a good scene in the movie
>god damn finally an epic lightsaber fight
>nope, jk, Luke is a projection, on and he dies right after, oh and none of this even mattered.
>#SUBVERTER’D
it’s worth it for mark hamill’s incredible performance even if you have to stretch your disbelief to accept it imho
fuck off Rian
They look good but are bad. Cant you get that? You take looking good and translate that into overall good.
>it’s worth it for mark hamill’s incredible performance
It's not even saved by that because the writing destroys the character. You can be a great actor but if your role is that of a bitchy little douche you're still going to be great at being a bitchy little douche. And no one wants to see bitchy little douche Luke Skywalker.
Nobody hates it except incels and spammers. Movies were a success. Disney and KK (yes she'll stay, no question, her strategy worked) will double down on Woke Wars on Disney+ and the next trilogy.
Nonsensical plot that relies on people reading the script
Pointless side plots
Vapid characters with barely any personality
Rewritten characters that act in illogical fashions compared to their prior incarnations
Unlikable characters the audience is supposed to sympathise with
Complete disregard for the implications it creates for the series it's supposed to fit in with
Dead Herring school of subversion
Laughable action scenes
Not attempting to fix any mistakes of its predecessor
Doubling down on the mistakes of its predecessor
Ripping off the OT with no regard of the scenes context
Tthemes that contradict each other
Themes contradictory to the spirit of the series it's part of

>Why do people hate this movie again?
Because Yas Forums wouldn't know a good movie if it slapped them in both their brain cells
>slashes her belly
>stabs her in the back
Explain using objective reasoning why they are bad movies
>Enough people complained on Twitter that Kathleen Kennedy got scared she'd get fired and tried to appease everyone.

See
You mean ticket, toy, and park sales?
im not invested in the series in any way but
>nonsensical plot
rebel carrier tries to outrun a destroyer while side characters plan an escape strategy. meanwhile rey tries to persuade luke to train her
>vapid characters:
characters are introduced through their actions not by needless dialogue.
>unlikable characters
bad guys are bad guys, knowing their intentions doesnt mean you have to like them
>disregard for implications
thats not Rian's fault, JJ should have built on this story instead of retconning it. his inability to do so says more about him that TLJ.
>ripping off the OT
OT yoda was perfect and paying homage is not ripping off
star wars is very popular so no one should be surprised it has a low IQ fanbase
i thought AT-AT where only used in hot. everywhere else its better to just use fighters. way to go nu-wars
must be a women in the costume and a women fight director and probably a women filming.
>rebel carrier tries to outrun a destroyer while side characters plan an escape strategy. meanwhile rey tries to persuade luke to train her
While also seeking safety from a tracker than they can outrun on transports that aren't getting tracked, and for a place to seek help despite being able to make calls anyway, while having no countermeasures for their enemy simply looking out the window.
Meanwhile they seek help from someone who left a map to their location despite not wanting to be found
>characters are introduced through their actions not by needless dialogue.
Such as tazing people for "desertion" despite said people never formally joining, refusing to tell a clearly morale shocked company a plan, and publicly deriding a well known hotheaded hero
>bad guys are bad guys
The bad guys are actually the most likable people in it.
>thats not Rian's fault, JJ should have built on this story instead of retconning it. his inability to do so says more about him that TLJ.
JJ never introduced hyperspace ramming
>OT yoda was perfect and paying homage is not ripping off
Ripping off the dark cave while ignoring everything it was supposed to represent is, as is stealing the throne room scene despite it making no thematic sense to do so
I watched the first 30 minutes with Ray and Luke on the force planet and turned it off when Yoda popped up. Star Wars was never good, I was just a stupid kid when I watched Empire Strikes Back every week
lol you niggas still talking about star wars
This defense of the movie isnt lazy but it is dumb. They turned hux into a literal retard within like 2 minutes. They get mad at their best pilot who can single handedly knock out entire squads of tie for not turning around when they were literally over their targets. I dont even want to continue that's all in the first scene and it's already a bad movie.
First movie is a non sensical bad remake which doesn't understand the first trilogy, second movie is a bad sequel of the first and understand less than first the original trilogy, but at least tries to do something now and has good photography, sadly this is fucked by propaganda, third movie is the sequel of a second movie that doesn't exist and try to fix something broken but is more broken now.
Total garbage
>holdo not trusting poe made little sense, especially to the extent that she could have ruined the whole mission if Leah hadn't woken up at an opportune time
>the holdo manoeuvre is world breaking
>The casino scene was pointless in the general plot
>they also freed some animals that would like be recaptured in no time instead of rescuing the slave children
>snoke was killed in an embarrassing way for someone who was meant to be one of the most powerful beings on the planet (from the original viewing, it's still retarded with the 9th film retcon)
>maRay sueeeeee
>her parents being no one could have been a good plotline but anything possibilities weren't built upon (again, from the original viewing)
>the logisitics of the salt planet battle was retarded throughout
>Kylo could have been interesting if any characters or setting his story line was written into made sense.
>totally flips luke's whole arc of the OT and without any sufficient explanation why he acts in direct contradiction to his character.
>no interesting world building, the two main planets are near rip offs of old planets.
>phasma was weak and retarded
>Leah's force ability went from 0-100 somehow
>she also could survive in the vacuum of space just fine, and she somehow wasn't blown miles away.
>rose
>force ghost lighting sure could have been useful a few dozen times other than to destroy a book
>as part of the sequel trilogy, it makes the whole OT near meaningless with Vader and lukes main plot being worthless, and the fight for peace was instead was a way to buy time for maRay sue to be born and save everyone.
Its overly long, most of the events and characters don't matter, it actively shits on the established characters and universe.
>dies from a skype call
gay
>im not invested in the series but
>all that cope
rofl
I don't understand how anyone could like it
>Doesn't care about the fandom
This doesn't matter, the media is trying to push this as a reason for why the movies flopped, so they can retort that franchises don't belong to the fans etc
But it's not about obeying the fandom in all their stupid fan service demands, it's about doing something GOOD, and basically following all the other things you said.
haha, what the fuck? The blade in his right hand just fucking vanishes
Because of how abysmally terrible it is
All of these are opinionated statements.
Try again
Because they grew up with James Rolfe and Doug Walker getting irrationally angry at media as a joke and now think it's a rational way to react to movies they don't enjoy.
This movie is like a supermassive black hole of filmmaking. We could spend decades picking it apart and still find new stuff that is awful. How did Rian made the "perfect" shit movie? Was it on purpose?
Can you prove that the movie had a direct financial impact on all of these without any other influences?
>Age old guru tells you to believe more in the spiritual aspect of something rather than blind adherence to bias text.
Yeah completely out of character here

Sure, financially speaking we can track the start of Star War's downward trend in TLJ's second weekend. TLJ had an opening weekend that was only 10% lower than TFA, the hype was still there and, had it maintained the same box office holds, it would have made 1.8 billion dollars at the box office. But by its second weekend it suffered the biggest week to week box office drop in the history of movies, $150 million drop from one weekend to the next. We all remember that tweet of Rian making a complete ass of himself begging people to go see TLJ on its third weekend because "the energy was just right". In the end TLJ ended up making 1.3 billion, that's half a billion less than projected, because of how fucking awful it was. Then we have the absolute fucking state of Star Wars post SUBVERTED: a Han Solo origin story became the biggest money loser nuclear BOMB of the 2010s decade, two Star Wars theme parks were ghost towns in the middle of high season, the toys were rotting in the boxes and a Star Wars numbered episode movie released in Christmas without competition ended up making less than Aquaman: The Movie.
You did this Rian, and we thank you for it. You should go for Marvel next
>Please do a marvel movie Rian, we need you.
>emasculates and completely assassinates the character of Luke Skywalker
>Rey, once again, had everything handed to her
>completely tangential and unecessary with padding with Canto Bight
>Rose
>main cast being useless
MaRay is so op she erases enemie weapon out of existence
this,
>it was hard to watch it and not feel the pain Mark had to go through making this movie
there was an at-at on endor when luke gives himself up to vader - it's guarding the landing pad - unless that's a special edition addition, don't really remember
youtube.com
>shilling this desperately
lmao
>Dude it turns out we could fucking obliterate any solid object in the universe by flying into them at lightspeed
That's like making a sequel to LOTR and saying there was a tunnel from the Shire to Mt Doom the entire time. The DT trilogy as a collective may be the worst pop culture films of all time.
Ill advised Space Balls remake, not even slightly funny.
>And no one wants to see bitchy little douche Luke Skywalker.
Oh, legions of women writing comments sure as hell did, because the Force is female and why is yet another white male in a position of power and always right, UGH!
Not even worth hate. The whole trilogy is just a big joke, only worth laughs. The PT had many flaws, but also good things.
This is just the second installment of a bad fanfic without themes, message or even a story.
It’s hilarious and pathetic at the same time.
>I never actually paid attention to anything Luke was ever taught or achieved in the OT
Because it's so shit that it can't even sell any toys to children because even children recognize how shit the nu-trilogy is.
you are missing the point of TLJ and SW overall
We know that, user. Defending TLJ made that obvious
>that's just like your opinion man
Oh it's you rian!
Not him, but not an argument. Elaborate.
>a bad fanfic without themes, message or even a story
Did you miss all the "failure is a teacher", "fight for what you love", "kill the past", etc?
Reminder that you aren't getting your trilogy
Yeah it would have been so EPIC if Luke blew up all the ATATs with the Force then flipped around and killed lots of stormtroopers with his lightsaber and the solution for Luke's trauma over almost killing his nephew was for him to try to kill him with a lightsaber again xD
He really did the best he could with the material. I respect that
awful film though.
>Just turn off your brain, bro
Holy shit I haven't seen this one yet.
Brilliant and subverting as always Rian.
>Y-you only wanted to see big explosions!
I swear, TLJ defenders always go to this. It's completely ignoring how they butchered Luke's character and how he's the kind of person who would show up in person. Dying from projecting too hard is also super lame.
You get one star, merely for mentioning plutarchs lives
Nigger please, Luke turning himself into a hologram from halfway across the universe was over powered bullshit. That's the scene you're defending.
All we wanted was for him to stop acting like a twat and do something to redeem his failure.
It's funny how you get mad when you're accused of something, and then you do it without a hint of irony and self awareness
>rebel carrier tries to outrun a destroyer while side characters plan an escape strategy. meanwhile rey tries to persuade luke to train her
That’s a synopsis, not a plot. The plot we have involves the first order firing on an empty base and ignoring basic tactics to keep up a pointless chase. It has commanding officers refusing to brief soldiers with no explanation for the secrecy whatsoever. In their quest to escape the first order, heroes leave and return undetected regularly. Characters randomly appear in a location with no explanation, or magically obtain info they shouldn’t have known. Characters regularly contradict their own goals and motivations. Both sides routinely sabotage themselves with the stupidest decisions possible in order to keep the story going. The plot is an absolute mess that falls apart the moment you begin examining it.
I thought you disneyshills dropped this narrative after the million times we told you no one wanted to see Luke blowing shit up, just because TLJ is objectively garbage doesn't mean we want MCU shit
>failure of a teacher
I must have missed that part. Oh wait, he failed because BEN SOLO (god what a stupid name) was tempted by the light side (wtf ? Urges to pet cute animals ? ) and continuing the legacy of Vader (who never showed up as a ghost to tell him «son, it sucks, don’t do this «)
>fight for what you love
Empty words. Everyone do.
>kill the past
Ironic from plagiarism experts selling tickets because of nostalgia
How did TLJ manage to be so shit that it made 35% less money than FA?
It was more to do with the FA being shit. It bored people out of Star Wars, and TLJ just confused those who stayed.
SW is not science fiction. Easy to make something up why kamikazeing worked this one time, but not the others, like because of the hyperspace tracker.
The reason why TLJ doesn't even do that is because it simply does not matter.
SW overall and TLJ in particular is about the hero's journey, characters overcoming their obstacles etc. It breaks continuity constantly, and it does not matter.
Nah Rogue One came after TFA and still made a billion but the movie that came after TLJ bombed. TLJ clearly killed Star Wars
>firing on an empty base and ignoring basic tactics to keep up a pointless chase.
Do you have autistic fits when the gunners elected to not fire on the escape pod in the first movie?
>it has commanding officers refusing to brief soldiers with no explanation for the secrecy whatsoever
Poe wasnt told because hes a hotheaded moron who would sabotage the plan if he found out (which is what happens). People who think the entire crew was in the dark are delusional, Poe literally storms into a meeting where Holdo is discussing the plans with people she let into the loop
>Characters randomly appear in a location with no explanation, or magically obtain info they shouldn’t have known. Characters regularly contradict their own goals and motivations
Cite examples, please.
Rogue One was actually good though.
Its like beating a dead horse at this point why even argue?
You said not message, not themes.
Now you admit they were there, you just didn't like them.
Don't know what you will make up next, but it is totally ok if you just don't like the movie.
You don't need to make shit up, just to claim you are objectively correct.
Unlike TLJ then
