A masterfully executed subversion of stale genre tropes with enough symbolism and subtext to inspire decades' worth of analytical writing and literature. A textbook example of the capability of genre film to, when placed in the right hands, transcend the inbuilt limitations of its form and ascend to a higher level. Suburban gothic. David Cronenberg coming of age. A decade-defining cult classic. Let's discuss.
Topic for the day: I can't get over how great the lighting is in this film. Am I alone in thinking that it was a deliberate choice for the color palette to grow increasingly surreal as everything starts to unravel for the sisters? The scenes in the school and the basement towards the end have such a hazy, dreamlike feel to them thanks to how they're lit.
Ginger Snaps
The movie is a 3/10 at best and you have autism for thinking it's anything more and pretending it has any of the things you talked about. Seethe, cope, and dilate.
does this movie is a slasher ?
yeah i have seen it, and i Don't understant the "cult" about this movie, easily forgettable, in the same genre i prefer the wolfman with deltoro or an american werewolf in london
kys
Rude.
How about the patrician version
>an american werewolf in london
Garbage overrated flick
These are troll threads, pure and simple. Every time it makes someone watch Ginger Snaps, they win. It's a basic teen horror movie about werewolves with edgy relatable girls. That's it.
kys you autist
We're starting a religion.
Every one gets a Ginger or Brigitte gf of their choosing. Ghostfags reluctantly welcome.
>can't find a torrent
How am I supposed to watch your meme
This film has a ton of shit going on above and below the surface. You don't know how to watch films. Stick to making Sneed threads.
brother you've got to be kidding me. Otherwise you're a delusional pretentious faggot
Cope seethe dilate have sex etc.
You're not alone in not even knowing how to properly consoom and I constantly see people who watch movies without knowing how to watch them, people who listen to music without actually knowing how to listen to it, people who read books without knowing how to read them etc. but still, fuck outta here. You're basic and have no point of reference for anything, not on a personal level, not a cultural one either. Come back in 10 years.

Ginger Snaps failed to meet the studio's expectations at the box office, and received polarized reactions from critics. It was cited as one of the most controversial and talked-about films of 2000. The Guardian saw it as an omen for change in Canadian educational system, and described its visual style as ground-breaking. The film later found commercial success with its DVD release, establishing Ginger Snaps as a cult classic and causing media to revisit the film. On the tenth anniversary of the film's release, The New York Times dubbed it the "defining cult movie of our time."
Gosh, this sounds like a braindead YouTube pedant (starting with the tropeish "subversion of tropes), how's that for a discussion?
Lot of words that don't mean anything. You're awfully defensive about this movie without any real points. Maybe give me an essay about what you think is below the surface next time? Don't even pretend to tell me I don't know what a basic fucking narrative is and what the themes and point of a movie is.
Does Patrick Bateman post on Yas Forums? epic
>Maybe give me an essay about what you think is below the surface next time?
There's plenty of those floating around on these movies, find one yourself. Can't really be arsed, personally.

Ok, I have another deleted scene for y'all
DELETED SCENE 4: "Priest of Prey"
If you ask me, I say that despite this scene being very cute and kind of showing us Brigitte's childish side, it wasn't so necessary because, in fact, it is just an extended version of the scene we've seen in the final cut. Although, there is one shot that I was sad to lose. I'm speaking of this long shot where Brigitte turns off the TV and sits in silence alone with her thoughts. She was freaking out at that moment because that shot makes it quite clear that Brigitte was clueless about what her next move should be. Brilliant sequence.
And, by tradition, I'm leaving Karen Walton's commentary on this scene:
"When you're writing a screenplay, you're taking pains to make sure that you're being clear about how your characters are putting their ideas together. Especially in this movie where we were kind of futzing around with a pretty traditional story that lots of people knew and had understandings about in terms of how the creature was when they came full moons, what they were like (guys in hairy suits). So to make not only our rules more clear but to make the connection between any werewolf rules and how similar they are in some respects to a female coming of age. We took a long time to show discovering all or reminding us all about the usual kinds of information. And I did write all of the "out" material here. I think it turned out fantastic [laughs], but you can't use everything. Everything just becomes ridiculous, and here John had obviously made a decision to take a long pause for reflection. This is Brigitte putting together everything she needs to go to someone like Sam or at least to deal with him."
I can't look at this picture for longer than a couple of seconds because my feels meter goes off the charts
There's only one Ghostfag as far as I know
>paying for anything digital
Go back to facebook tourist

What do you call this aesthetic?
If that's "When Animals Dream", it's not good at all. Not even worth watching really.
something between Puritan and Gothic. A weird mixture that works for some reason
does anyone have John's or that little wanker's commentary on Brigitte and Ginger's style? I remember someone posted that before
are you memeing or is this actually as good as ginger snaps cause i'll watch this
>polarized reactions from critics
Apparently some of those critics were just plebeians with no taste for film
>tasteless brainlets this mad
thanks for the bumps fellas
>tfw have all this love for Brigitte but it has nowhere to go
Why did I have to love a fictional character bros? No real girl stoked the same intensity of feelings in me.
I feel exactly the same and keep asking myself the same question, user. She's got us under her spell, I guess new gif
Here are some from the Mathijs book:
>"Nineteenth-century North-American interpretation of puritanical feminine dress code: a mix of Quaker, Mennonite, and Pilgrim styles [with] religious if not sectarian overtones."
>"Put differently, the Gothicness of the sister’s attire, and parts of the film’s decoration, may have been a starting point, but it did not remain a locked identifier of the characters, the film’s universe, or the filmmakers’ intentions. The other stylistic components more than balance, even subdue, the Gothicness, hence leading to a look that is more aptly labelled as “morbid” than Goth."
No, it's extremely mediocre.
thanks. You want a gif?
I wouldn't do that if I were you
It's because it has cute girls in it, and centered around cute girls. That's literally all it is.
Just a bunch of coomers.
cute girls is just the cherry on top

Kino. Got a color version?
Of course.

Nah, it's a classic and the regulars in these threads were far from the first people to recognize it as such. It strongly reverberated with horror fiends and the art-fag indie film audience alike upon release, and it's only grown in stature since, among both those crowds and numerous others.
used any color grading?
