Season 1 was decent bc it to used on the killers

I imagine they tried to transition to more focus on the fictional cast in S2 because there aren't enough big-name serial killers to give the series longevity of the focus was to remain on the killers. Unfortunately for them nobody gives a fuck about their office politics, panic attacks, or lesbian intrigues. Glad they canned it.

They should have just stuck to the S1 formula and focused on more obscure, but still gritty/depraved criminals.

The show is really notable in that literally everything good about it was adapted near word for word from the book and everything bad was their OC Donut Steel. The first season had a lot less meandering side plots which made it far more bearable.
Something they were guilty of in both seasons is dragging the arse out of things, for example the tickling teacher was almost instantly recommended to be fired without much moral debate or feelings of guilt. The Altanta Child Murder Stuff was decent but overwhelmingly drawn out and preachy.

The last few episodes focus on a series of murders of black children in Altanta. It's not as bad as people say it is but there's a bunch of scenes where they play the "no one cares about these murders because they aren't white" card over and over and it gets pretty obnoxious. It reaches a point where their constant dismissal of an obviously correct Holden makes them pretty unlikeable. What's most frustrating is the white guilt aspects aren't really in the source material at all.

It wasn't the black stuff to me. If anything the black community was depicted as stupid. It was the format changing. In S1 they were traveling and always getting into something new while S2 is static and repetitive.
And then there was Tench's family. It got really tiresome. Like 10 scenes of his wife being exhausted and disheveled. We get it.

Netflix's binging model simply isn't sustainable. Everyone forgets about the show by monday morning. They have to start stretching out release dates of episodes to keep interest alive for longer
