It just lost its edge. Women don't belong in writer's rooms and neither does Harmon.
Like the whole episode with the snakes had the first act rip off Bushworld Adventures in a much less funny way. Then we have a 3 minute montage of snake society which, sure, explains the plot but what kind of fag thinks it's inherently funny? Also wouldn't it make more sense if Rick simply extracted venom from the dead snake and engineered an anti-venom from that instead of going to the snake's home planet? Which if it was the first snake in space, should have been plainly visible from where it was found. And how did the snake slither through space? These are all simple questions that a supposedly smart show should have considered.

The dragon episode meandered around pointlessly. The idea that dragons are pervs was handled very awkwardly and the 11th hour conflict of Rick getting choked slowly was stupid. So is he in danger or not? Why should I care if he can just emerge from a tube in another dimension anyway? Why is this show trying so little to compel the viewer to watch?

Season 4 is definitely better than 3 but both still don't hold a candle to 1 and 2.

They basically did that already in Season 3. Still, reminder that the writing staff has always consisted of people like in this image. While this season was hit or miss, I thought the ones that were alright were serviceable or good (snakes, dragons). The others were either downright bad in every way or forgettable. I remember the one with the stupid unfunny app shit and the guy using Rick's toilet. I'm struggling to remember the other 2. Oh, right, there was the Akira one which went absolutely nowhere but had one or two good gags. Oh, and the heist episode... I liked the throwaway line about Rick pretending to enjoy David Lynch films to make his friends shut up.

Having half or more of your 2 years to make/5 episode season turn out barely alright or even mostly shit is a bad omen, though.

The man promised 70 episodes and in the past 2 years has only been able to shit out 5, 3 of which were already half made during the 3rd season.
They've thrown all of their money at this show and yet the writers aren't doing their job. Sad!

It is normal to have a buttmonkey or a stubborn idiot in a comedy to show things going wrong at an absurd level but the character has to be extremely confident and somewhat sneaky to make their failures entertaining.

Jerry is nothing. He's too weak and sad to be a foil to anyone. He's aware of how pathetic he is but never changes. Only people who have an axe to grind against white men would find his foibles hilarious which explains who writes this show.

Seriously give me one reason why the rest of the family should exist. They aren't an antagonist to Rick because Rick is a god and he could easily kill or brainwash them. Summer is shallow, Beth is a miserable cunt and Jerry is too dumb to affect anything. The core of the show should be a nutty scientist and his naive grandson, but now it's a bitter old drunk and his equally cynical protege. No contrast, no humor.

Hey Justin, why not just animate 22 minutes of Rick flipping the audience off and telling them all that they are stupid for watching! That's edgy and current year, right? If everyone's a jerk that's funny, right? Who cares?

This was the WEIRDEST fucking thing. Since that one episode with tall chicks on a planet, Summer has been built up to be a similar person to Rick, and then season 3 just completely trashes this buildup and she becomes absolutely worthless, with season 4 continuing this. Ryan Ridley quit after Season 3 due to personal reasons.
Mike McMahan has left the show to make his Star Trek cartoon.
Tom Kaufmann and Dan Guterman are not credited as consulting writers on this new season.
Basically all the writers who made the show good have left except Roiland but he's doing a new show and game now so I can't imagine he's doing much.
We've hit the zombie era on only Season 4.

Pickle Rick was made fun of here a lot but I passed by someone in a PR costume while driving, the show definitely had an impact.
If only the show could be silly again but they really need to let the scenes breathe. Women think having characters quip at each other really fast is what comedy is.

The Snake episode had a good premise but terrible execution, as you said, the snake stuff was boring, the only parts that made me chuckle were all the snakes killing eachother trying to either stop or save Hitler and then Rick punching Morty at the end.
The Dragon episode was bad, but Pickle Rick was still worse.
I'm very disappointed because I enjoyed the first 3 of the season. I'm worried it will get worse before it gets better.
