Watching historical kino
's a good flick
Name 4 kinos that do this.
>Ledger was just nineteen; as the film’s release approached, he had a slippery feeling in his stomach. Every day, drivers could see his giant-size head, in the billboard exhibition along Sunset Boulevard; all across the country, his face, the title, the tagline: “He Will Rock You.” “It freaked me the fuck out,” he says. “I was like, ‘What if I don’t rock ’em?'”
>As Ledger grew nervous – “I pretty much had anxiety attacks about just leaving the house” – the studio turned enthusiastic. At meetings, executives mapped out a career with the shape of an Entourage season: tours, paydays, more billboards, bigger projects – they wanted Ledger to play Spider-Man. It made him less confident. “I didn’t feel like I deserved it,” he says. “I didn’t really know how to act properly yet.” Ledger sat, listening. “I started to feel like a bottle of Coke,” he says. “And there was a whole marketing scheme to turn me into a very popular bottle. And, you know, Coke tastes like shit. But there’s posters everywhere so people will buy it. So I felt like I tasted like shit, and I was being bought for no reason.”
>As the executives finished their presentation, every head at the table clocked toward Ledger together. Ledger stood up. “Could you . . . could you wait one second, please?” He slipped to the bathroom, slammed the door. “And pretty much burst into tears. I was so full of ‘Oh! Oh, fuck!’ I was hitting my head, hitting the walls. It was a full-on anxiety attack.”
Why would someone become an actor if they can't handle this kind of thing
Most actors have anxiety or mental problems.

Fun fact, the renaissance buildup before the actual song in the movie was composed by David Bowie too.
that cute girl dancing in the beginning; always wondered if she was one of the czech extras
Kino
Feels bad man because he DID rock 'em. He was great in that, he was great as the Joker, he would have been great as Spider-man.
i fucking loved this movie, they don't make them like this anymore
Teenagers don't usually make rational decisions.
It was goofy as fuck in a way worked somehow. Reminds me a bit of Spider-Man 2 in that sense.
Nah, Toby was born to be Peter Parker..
tfw no blacksmith gf
>in a way worked
*in a way that worked
Not a bad flick though. Some "historical" movies and shows insert modern elements just right. Either to set a tone or to make the viewer aware characters are talking slang or are casual with each other. Like the two bro-legionaires saying dude and such in Britain (the show) when no centurio is around.
Or how Rome has the patricians talk like upper-class Englishmen while the plebs generally sound like chavs.
I like Tobey, but Heath would have also been good.
Every "historical" film needs some anachronisms to truly work dramatically. Barry Lyndon gets the closest to "true" accuracy, but its Sarabande is orchestrated in a more dramatic style than one would find in 18th-century composition, and the soundtrack features Schubert's Trio in E Flat, Opus 100, which was written in 1828 (after the setting).
There's also this story from Emmerich when Ledger auditioned for the Patriot
>He was the only guy who ran out of an audition. I auditioned him how you normally audition people and all of a sudden, in the middle of the audition he says "I suck" and ran out. I turned to April Webster, my casting director and said 'April, bring him back. He was good’. She needed three weeks to talk him into coming back. And then he came back and he had blue hair. I luckily had a hat that (he had in the movie)...and then he finally got through the thing...he was like the perfect actor for this part...he was very insecure about himself always. He was always not really happy with what he did, but that’s actually good for an actor because if they’re too confident they will never ever improve...He did the death scene of him, and then Mel did his and he was so good. Then, Heath comes to me and says‘Can I do my scene again?’ There was something noble about him, something honest. I think that’s why Heath became such a big actor because there was something real about him, but he was incredibly insecure.
If a 10/10 chad can be so anxious and insecure, there's no hope for me.
It was so fucking cringeworthy and literally nobody I knew who's seen it thinks it worked.
modern racism didn't exist in those times. a medieval european peasant would have had no reason to hate an african, because there was no racial ideology
The reason for the modern music and dancing is to convey the tone of music and the room to us in a way that we identify with, for the sake of relating to it better. They aren't literally doing these things or playing modern music. Same with the Nike logo on the armor, it was specifically meant to convey what exactly she had in mind with leaving a mark like that.
>It's ok when Shrek does it!
lmfao
I never saw this movie growing up, so I dont view it in rosey tinted nostalgia goggles. Watched it last year, and it was embarrassing
>modern racism didn't exist in those times
You conception of "modern racism" is entirely shaped by "anti-racist" propaganda and indoctrination.
>a medieval european peasant would have had no reason to hate an african, because there was no racial ideology
Forget the caricature of "racism" as hatred. That is propaganda. They would regard Africans, let's be real here, negros, as utterly alien.
>It was so fucking cringeworthy and literally nobody I knew who's seen it thinks it worked.
If it wasn't supposed to be Peter Pan then I'd say it could work. If it was woven into an original story. It wouldn't even need to be that different from Peter Pan. Just throw in a couple different things and change all the names, give it some new themes, change the names, add unicorns and a skeleton king that kidnaps children. But it's all about brand recognition and nothing else, so there is nothing original.
>coke tastes like shit
i'm never watching a ledger flick again
It was cool
As a medievalist I can tell you that most medievalists love this movie because it is fun and exciting.
>As a medievalist I can tell you that most medievalists love this movie because it is fun and exciting.
Well, the anachronisms are grating but there is no other jousting movie.
Full house of painful truth
The moment that happened is when I knew A Knight's Tale would be trash. To this day I still consider this to be the worst movie I've ever seen.
I know, I am fucking enraged.
