That actually isn't entirely true, if you read the ending to that one what's actually happening is that the narrator's transformation into a Deep One has progressed so much that it's affecting his mind and judgment. That's what makes him decide to join the rest of them in Y'ha-nthlei, not any kind of acceptance. Lovecraft, considering how much of an intellectual he was, probably found the thought of his mind and personality being corrupted like that particularly frightening.
