Why did he approach and call out the hitman in Vegas? He was out, free and living the perfect life. He should have known the trouble meeting him would get him in. Why did he fuck things up so bad?

Also are seasons 2 and 3 as good and worth watching?

s1 9/10
s2 10/10
s3 7/10 on first viewing, 9/10 on rewatch for me

all in all its the most incredibly consistent television show i've ever seen, which is insane because it's an anthology

How are the casts? Season 1 had a very strong all star line up.

He was trying to prove he'd truly changed and gone from being a meek guy to a predator on par with Malvo. He was wrong.
2 is probably the best series but 3 is also pretty good. Looking forward to 4.

Pretty good rankings, I'd probably go 9/10, 10/10 and 8/10, respectively (though admittedly I've only seen S3 one time, so it's probably worth going back for a rewatch).

they're uniformly fantastic, otherwise i wouldn't rate them as closely

for 2, patrick wilson's portrayal of lou solverson is one of the best in recent years, and he manages to completely capture the old guy (carradine?) playing him in s1 without it looking like he's doing an impression. mike milligan's actor is fucking phenomenal. the native dude is absolutely scene-stealing.

for 3, mew is great though not especially deep or compelling, macgregor is really strong in both roles, michael stuhlbarg as sy is one of the most sympathetic characters i've ever seen, and the creepy british guy who played remus lupin is straight up fucking terrifying. only noah hawley can make male anorexia look fucking menacing.

watch them all man. it's really one of the best shows ever.

He thought he had become an alpha male when in reality he was the same cowardly Lester he has always been.

He only knows how to run away from problems, not how to solve them which ultimately leads him to his demise in the end.

>creepy british guy who played remus lupin
Gary Oldman?

nice, really happy to see other people with similar opinions. i thought s1 was 10/10 after watching it, it really was the perfect self-contained story, but then then s2 completely blew me away with its scope and the way it connected to s1 so beautifully in a way that didn't feel contrived at all. 3 was for sure a bit of a step down but i fucking loved it too.

thanks for the thread, i think i'm gonna rewatch them again, it's been almost 2 years

no, david thewlis playing v m varga

Attached: vmvarga.jpg (1280x720, 67.82K)

David Thewlis, Oldman played Black in the Potter films. And for me, Thewlis stole the fucking show in season 3. Hawley and Co. have a knack for getting great villain performances out of their chosen actors.

Yeah I think it's time for me to rewatch em all too. When is S4 supposed to drop?

Even though not quite as good as Fargo (and at points hamstrung by its genre a bit), Legion is another great show from Noah Hawley

Yea I agree it was one of the worst moments in the show. It made sense from a story perspective to have the two come back into conflict, but the logical motivations aren't there. Lester needs an actual goal in confronting him. Something he wants to know, or a piece of evidence he wants back or SOMETHING.

Even if the real reason is because he want to do some silly "prove I've changed" thing, he still needs a justification if only for himself.

He needs to have some idea in his head of how he wants the situation to play out. I just can't see what he thought was going to happen. Like what was his ideal sequence of events?

1 confront hit man
2 ?????
3 profit

There's always something that slightly ruins every single season of this. In the first one is exactly what you posted even if it's justified by the changes in personality that the main character has. Don't want to spoil you but second season pulls a completely retarded thing but it WAS FORSHADOWED so IT'S FINE and the third has that magical transformation shit. Still good tv but damn if it doesn't mud the series, at least for me

Nah Lester beat malvo, he only went down because malvo keeps incriminating evidence on everyone that he likes to jacks off too

More like faggot

why do people like the 2nd season so much? I think 1st season is the best

also, because hes a retarded autistic robot who thinks calling him out will make him more alpha

That was an incredibly cringy character if you ask me. I'm still unsure if that was intentional or not, and thus if it reflected badly on the show.

Season 1 is better than season 2.

His ideal sequence would probably be that Malvo acknowledged him as an equal, or at least acknowledged what they'd gone through together.
He was acting impulsively because he felt that for all his successes, Malvo was treating him in the way he used to be treated all the time.
Of course, he was completely out of his depth and Malvo's murders in the elevator prove that he is a completely different kind of person to Lester.

>S-S-SURMISE!!!

It's definitely a bit of a stretch, but I always thought it was just that he was so pompous by then that his ego just refused to let him not be recognized. It's a surprisingly realistic sense of hubris (for someone like that) in my opinion, even if it's a deus ex machina in this show.

IMO for 2, the scene you're describing is thematic. It's a stylistic choice and it's not meant to be taken completely literally, and IMO the writing is strong enough (especially with the parallel between the "that's the message" lines) that it completely allowed for suspension of disbelief.

It's the same as the bowling alley sequence in S3, which I thought was fantastic as well.

I don't know, I thought season 2 was so awful I stopped watching it. S1 was excellent though.

For me it's Mike Milligan. Also Lou Solverson, obviously. Also, also checked.

>outsmarted by some nobody junkie and a deaf guy
great villain.

For me, it's Mike Milligan and the Kitchen Brothers as well.

One of my favorite understated moments in s2 was how the Kitchen Brothers never speak and it gets built up in this ominous way, and then later on when that executioner guy shows up one of the brothers just casually says "they're on their way" to Mike like it's nothing. Great season.

My first impression when it happened was that he was wanting an apology or something for messing with him way back when.

If it’s in the same theme as the movie, it’s because he’s a self-destrucive thrill seeker who doesn’t understand life is naturally just a series of simple, humble moments

wrong , lester killed malvo proving that he was the predator and malvo was the sheep who thought he was a predator.

If malvo didn't want to get got like a punk then he should have backed down and paid respect to lester, the real alpha dog

Literally the only thing good about this show was Billy Bob Thornton.

absolute kino

Season 2 is the best season of TV ever made. Just don't give up after the first couple of episodes, they take a bit of time to establish the characters.

Patrick Wilson is criminally underrated

>Why did he approach and call out the hitman in Vegas?
Did you not pay attention to anything that happened and ignore the nuances of his character up until this point? It couldn't be more clear: he was a natural-born fuck-up. His only win was tricking that bitch to fuck him.

Holy fuck, that was one of the most kino things I've ever seen.

Once you get a taste of being a Chad, you can’t just pussy out. Pussy out once and all that Chaditude just evaporates.

I don't know if I would say it's the 'best' season ever made (things like The Wire S4, The Sopranos S6 Part B, Fawlty Towers S2 and The Simpsons S5 jump out to me right away) but it certainly is in strong contention for greatest season ever and it pretty much assured that I will watch whatever Noah Hawley puts out.

It's a really good example of how to subvert expectations in a good way.

Another good one is when Bear kills the girl. He's shown to be sympathetic and not a bad guy, so you expect him to let her go.

Why was she so obsessed with Lester? Why couldn't she let it go and listen to based Bill?

Attached: fargo.jpg (653x429, 62.64K)

i actually agree with you completely, and you're the first person i've ever encountered here or in real life that shares that opinion

It's not a particularly unusual opinion here.

Also I should add, since nobody really gives them much credit, that the trailer for Season 2 set to Dr. John is maybe my favorite commercial for a television show I've ever seen. Something about the build-up of the music with the escalating violence shown (or hinted at), coupled with the rollercoaster that was Season 1 got me excited in a way that really hasn't happened for a show since then.

Yas Forums loves season 2, me include

One thing I only really noticed on my first rewatch is that Odenkirk's admission that his naivete made him blind to truths that Molly wasn't is such a strong and unique piece of writing.

It's written with such grief and existential mourning, but it's coming from a character that has absolutely no emotional intelligence and has had no experience with thoughts anywhere near that profound before.

Fuck man, Hawley is such a tremendous talent. I really hope they give him another chance after the absolute shitshow that was Lucy In The Sky

Which trailer?

>why did his pride fuck him over, never happened before...

Here it is, took me a sec to find it.

Fuck sorry that was the truncated one.

I like Fargo season 2 and all but this is the GOAT preview or commercial for a show

youtu.be/IlcMy2tkDn0

For me? It was this sexy-ass dancing Chinese motherfucker.

You know that's funny, as I was mentioning the trailer for Fargo I was actually thinking that True Detective Season 3 was the only one since that came close. I swear there was a time when Fargo S1 and TD S1 were airing concurrently that I would have sworn to you that the golden age had come again.

He got done dirty.

absolutely based

Yeah I remember it was around the same time. It was fucking awesome. Check out Barry too if you haven't seen it user, it's in a similar vain to Fargo.

Season 2 is a must watch. Season 3 is the weakest by far.

Based trailerchads. Such an overlooked art form. An even slightly good one really stands out.

Both of those are amazing. Super off topic, but I think my 2 favourite movie trailers are Upstream Color and Song to Song

youtube.com/watch?v=mL0FYUpXuoo

I've only seen the first two seasons of Barry (I think there are three out now?) - I like it a lot, and I'll admit I was a bit surprised Hader had the range to carry the character like he did.

Because he had changed his ways and was alpha now

3 isn't out yet, still waiting for it

Those were both really good, I agree it's more or less something that is glossed over by most production companies at this point, I guess since there's so many ways to circumvent the standard viewing channels now.

Oh, good. I'll be sure to keep my ear to the floor on that count.
