He's shocked because he's supposed to be their teacher, but now they've brought him into an arena he's completely ignorant to. So he cries, because he's happy that he isn't alone anymore, and that maybe, just maybe he can actually connect to people and not sit in his mausoleum of a home.
And then they restrain him with magical silver bindings, pull out ceremonial swords, and prepare to destroy him because nobody asks for nothing in return. They can't understand that 'teaching others' is the exchange. All they see is the anger from being raised by Cho. He pleads with them, but in the end he cuts their throats out.
The final shot of the season is the two of them on his front lawn, impaled in the way Vlad Tepes was famous for, and he explains that his father's methods of repelling people might be best after all. In one perfect moment he casts aside his humanity and becomes the very thing he tried to destroy. It's almost as perfect as the way Lenore plays Hector, or Issac's attempts to prepare for genocide are constantly interrupted by human connections.
